Top 10 Debut Albums that are Considered to Be the Weakest of Their Band's Discography
-
Pablo Honey - Radiohead
Pablo Honey is unpopular and often considered the worst Radiohead album for good reason. Not only has it aged poorly compared to their later work, but it's also the only Radiohead album where they tried to follow a musical trend (grunge) instead of creating their own identity.
-
I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love - My Chemical Romance
Not really a bad album, but compared to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge or The Black Parade, it is not as well constructed or interesting as the other albums, despite being arguably the heaviest/most aggressive MCR album.
-
Bleach - Nirvana
Now, Bleach is far from being a bad album. Arguably, it is the best album on this list. However, we need to remember that it is the album that came before Nevermind and In Utero. Even if it is not a bad album, it's still the weakest out of Nirvana's studio albums.
-
Sounding the Seventh Trumpet - Avenged Sevenfold
Kind of self-explanatory, but to be honest, I really don't have much good to say about this album. Most of the songs just sound like bad metalcore. Thankfully, the band improved with Waking the Fallen and got even better with City of Evil.
Avenged Sevenfold is in my top five bands of all time, but this album is so bad. I'm glad they changed genres because they weren't good at all as a metalcore band.
-
Rush - Rush
-
39/Smooth - Green Day
-
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Red Hot Chili Peppers
RHCP's debut album has a similar feel to Pablo Honey. Compared to the rest of their work, it hasn't aged too well and is not as replayable as their other albums.
-
Undertow - Tool
-
Leisure - Blur
Blur improved greatly with their sophomore album, Modern Life Is Rubbish. Leisure blends the sounds of Madchester and shoegazing but mostly fails to do so effectively. "There's No Other Way," "She's So High," and "Sing" are the only good songs off Leisure. Damon Albarn is a genius, but not all musicians like Damon can produce entirely great music all the time. This is all I have to say. Goodbye.
-
Ember to Inferno - Trivium
Ascendancy and Shogun are superior albums. To be fair, this album was them trying to find their sound, which they didn't quite achieve until Ascendancy.

On Avery Island - Neutral Milk Hotel

His Last Walk - Blessthefall
Oof, man, I remember this one from my teen years when I was getting into metalcore. I didn't mind it at first, but after coming back to it (and this is coming from someone who doesn't have a strong opinion on these guys), this is genuinely one of the worst albums I have listened to.
It's not just because it's your stereotypical melodramatic emo-metalcore that was really popular around 2004 to 2008, but the production in this album is abysmal. It is extremely overdubbed and reverbed, the guitar tone feels out of touch, and Craig Mabbit's screamo vocals are unprofessional and sound bad.
Thankfully, the band would improve in better albums. Even if they are far from becoming the best metalcore band out there, at least they learned from this hot mess of a debut.
-
Dinosaur - Dinosaur Jr.
Similar feel to Pablo Honey and I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. It is not a bad album, but compared to the rest of the material that Dinosaur Jr. has produced over their career, this one is not as strong.
-
No Doubt - No Doubt
-
Goblin - Tyler, the Creator
-
Your Favorite Weapon - Brand New
-
Cheshire Cat - Blink-182
I don't know, but I've always heard this is considered their worst album.
-
Pale Folklore - Agalloch
Great album, but compared to their next three albums, it's not as good.
-
Count Your Blessings - Bring Me the Horizon
-
When Dream and Day Unite - Dream Theater
-
Symphony X - Symphony X
I haven't seen a single ranking of Symphony X albums where this wasn't at the bottom.
-
We Have Arrived - Dark Angel
Only 33 minutes of complete incoherent noise. It's hard to believe this is the same band who made a 67-minute technical thrash album with more than 200 riffs.
-
All We Know Is Falling - Paramore
A similar case to Pablo Honey, it's not really as inventive or interesting as their later albums, and it has aged much worse than the rest of their work.
-
On the Sunday of Life... - Porcupine Tree
-
Rocka Rolla - Judas Priest
-
Speak & Spell - Depeche Mode
Similar case to Pablo Honey and All We Know Is Falling, compared to the rest of Depeche Mode's catalog, it is neither as strong as their later albums, especially the material from Black Celebration to Ultra.
-
Metal Magic - Pantera
Most of the albums from this list are here just because they are weak compared to the rest of their band's output, but this one is the only album from the list that is really bad in almost every single aspect.
