Best Devo Songs
Devo is one of the greatest bands of all time. The may have not been the most skilled band of all time, but they were very innovative with their synth sounds, and also had some very difficult time signatures. Here are my personal top ten favorite Devo songs. Enjoy.I love the opening and how it builds with guitar, drums, bass, and then piano. Awesome. It creeps up on you!
This song is great. It's from their debut album, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!. It's my favorite song on that album. It has a fast pace and good guitar parts. Also, just a fun fact, it's the theme song of Rob Dyrdek's show, Ridiculousness.
I figured if I didn't add this song to the list, I'd get burned at the stake. Just kidding. This song is Devo's biggest hit, and it is great. It's from their album Freedom of Choice. It has one of the most recognizable hi-hat parts of all time and is quoted frequently. YOU MUST WHIP IT!
I'm frankly surprised this isn't #1. I thought this was their most popular song?
Come on, you guys. This is their biggest hit. This is what made them popular.
Twist away, now twist and shout.
I love this song. It's from their most famous album, Freedom of Choice. It's fun to play on every instrument and has one of my favorite bass synth parts of all time. It's also a catchy song: She's just the girl, she's just the girl, the girl you want!
They did a fantastic job on this song. It's from the album Oh No It's Devo. It starts off with a fat-sounding synth, then the Oberheim strings come in, and it sounds fantastic. Also, talking about Alan Myers again, his Syndrum hits in this song fit perfectly.
This song is awesome, to say the least. It is from Devo's second album, Duty Now For The Future. Even though it's two songs, it's still considered one. This was my favorite Devo song for a long time until I heard What We Do. It starts with a great low synth note, and Smart Patrol features what I consider to be the only true Devo guitar solo. Mr. DNA is my favorite of the two parts. It has a fast pace and challenging drum parts.
Easily my favorite one. It's also the most "Devo-sounding" to me.
The Newcomers
This song is from Devo's new (sort of) album, Something for Everybody, made in 2010. This song is excellent because it has a driving beat and great synth parts.
This is Devo's most beautiful song. See what I did there? It's from their album New Traditionalists. It was originally sung by Gerald Casale but is now usually performed by Booji Boy.
Don't let the name deceive you. This song is definitely not a mess. It's from my second-favorite Devo album, Oh No It's Devo. This album features drummer Alan Myers (Rest In Peace), who contributed significantly with his Synare Syndrums. There isn't much else I can say about this song except that it's awesome.
I think this song is a great opener for their new album. It has a different sound than a lot of their other stuff. It sounds excellent on every instrument, and once you hear it, whenever you hear the word Fresh, you'll be singing SO FRESH in your head!
Why is this so low? I think this version of the song is greater than the original! It's like stealing something and making it even more original.
My favorite Devo song. Great video with state-of-the-art motion graphics for the era.
Gauge the reaction, dodge the big spud fryer.
This song is from their new album Something for Everybody and has what is probably my favorite bass synth part of all time. The bass synth sounds so fat and good (by the way, fat is a word used to describe the thickness of the synth sound). It also has great synth leads and excellent drums - great everything! He said his name was Cameo! Cameo!
