Best Rap Albums of the 2010s
Who is gonna top this album out of Drake and J. Cole? They haven't even made a better album than GKMC. Seriously, will they ever? Time is ticking. Most classic hip hop albums happen early in a rapper's career. Think about it, look up all the greats.
They really need to make a classic album quick because they have hits but no classic albums. Kendrick has both, that's why he's known as the leader of the new school. TPAB is too creative and thought-provoking. There is more creativity in Mortal Man than any J. Cole album, and The Blacker the Berry goes harder than any Drake song. Can Drake make a better song about sex than These Walls?
Kendrick is a genius. This album will go down as the best hip hop album of the decade. He might even make a better album next time, but I doubt it. It's way too important and innovative. You can't be in the talks of the greats like Jay-Z, Snoop, Tupac, and Biggie with no classic album. It wouldn't make sense. If Drake or J. Cole don't make a classic album, it's not good for hip hop. Kendrick can't be the only one making classics. This generation of hip hop will just be known as the Kendrick Era of hip hop. SMH.
He manages to find numerous topics of life in Compton to talk about and how they affect him as a person. Another great part about it is he is able to take trips to his childhood, beliefs, and ambitions. Honestly, all the songs are great. Surprised Section 8.0 wasn't in the top ten. You can see the impact the Black Hippy crew has had this decade with their elaborate and amazing storytelling.
My number one album of all of them. Kendrick came in and dominated. Kendrick is a hard second, but these two are keeping the lyrics going for true hip hop fans.
1. Dark Fantasy...classic intro and opener to an album, and Ye spits bars.
2. Gorgeous...Kanye's best verse, with a dope beat and song overall. (What's a black Beatle anyway? A roach.)
3. Power...straight up hype, amazing song, just pure euphoria.
4. All of the Lights (Prelude).
5. All of the Lights...Rap Record of the Year at the Grammys.
6. Monster...Nicki Minaj has one of the best verses of all time. Also, Ye, Ross, and Jay are on point.
7. So Appalled...this is a real rap song, with much-needed commentary on rap and its direction.
8. Devil in a New Dress...Personally my favorite song on the album. The guitar just vibes and takes Kanye's brilliance in producing to a whole new level. Also, Ross spits mad bars.
9. Runaway...Emblematic of Kanye's career and work, not only as a rapper but as an artist. One of his bigger legacies and a beautiful piece of work.
10. Hell of a Life...More of a Yeezus vibe but fits perfectly into MBDTF.
11. Blame Game...Overall great song. John Legend is phenomenal, the lyrics are on point, and Kanye's incorporation of the Chloe Mitchell poem is sweet. Lastly, Chris Rock's skit is hilarious, and Kanye finds a way to blend it perfectly into the song, tying it to the whole album. One of the high points.
12. Lost in the World...Brilliant way to carry the album even further. Bon Iver's introduction adds a great melody. Although not a great rap song, it's amazing.
13. Who Will Survive in America...If you can't appreciate this, I don't know why you're listening to rap. Just as powerful as most individual songs on To Pimp a Butterfly.
This is literally the album... Just sheer brilliance.
Kanye deserves to be #1 here.
This album gets more hate than its fair share, considering the depth of lyrical and production fidelity. It is a great album with a great theme of never giving up and pushing on.
Every song is amazing. It can get slightly repetitive, but the album has no peers except for other Eminem albums.
Is this even an argument? This album won Best Rap Album of 2010.
On point the whole album, no skippable tracks at all. Top five albums of all time.
One of the best albums of all time, should be top five at least.
Logic's best album. Amazing flows, beautiful production, purely timeless, and still criminally underrated.
This is Kanye's most ambitious project. This album was literally worked on for years, up until the week it was released. Kanye recorded enough songs for this album to fill up two full-length albums. He recorded and re-recorded verses for this album over and over until the week before it was released. The list of collaborators on this album is very lengthy and quite impressive.
Kanye worked his ass off, and he cut and rearranged so much. He poured his soul into this album, and it boggles my mind how more people don't like it.
Listen to Crooked Smile, Forbidden Fruit, and Rich Nz, and you won't even vote for any other album. Only Kanye's MBDTF and Kendrick's GKMC are comparable to this album!
What are Tinie Tempah and Eminem's albums doing here?
Best album of the 2010s. J. Cole is the truth.
Very, very underrated album. Definitely top 5.
Possibly one of the most underrated albums ever, just because his other work is so good.
The Newcomers
Don't really count this as a rap album. It's a perfect mixture of rap and R&B, but I think it's one of the top five albums of all time. Drake was ahead of his time with this one.
Probably one of the best rap albums of this decade.
Top Songs: F***** Problems, 1Train, Peso.
A$AP Rocky put together a great project with this album. F***** Problems was one of the best songs of the year. 1Train featured great rappers including Kendrick Lamar and Danny Brown.
Ghetto Symphony and Angels, two of my favorite songs on this masterpiece.
All of J. Cole and Kendrick's albums should be in the top ten. This was the best album of 2014, and J. Cole was just beast on this album.
All of J. Cole and Kendrick albums should be in the top ten, especially this one.
#22? No collaborations unlike the other artists ranked higher (Kanye West, A$AP Rocky), and all the songs are beast. It broke a bunch of records.
Top Songs: Blessed, There He Go.
ScHoolboy is my second favorite rapper behind Kendrick Lamar. This album is great, and I think Oxymoron will be better.
Simply the best rap album of this decade. Had every emotion in it.
This is an amazing rapper colliding with an amazing producer. Need I say more?
