Top 10 Greatest Sri Lankan Female Singers
No comparison, no peers, and no competition. Nanda Malani is the greatest female singer of Sri Lanka! Forever number one!
A good singer cannot be assessed by the number of meaningful melodious songs sung by them. The criteria should be the range of pitch and the steady performance at the full range of pitch.
The best way to recognize this is to ask the singers to sing each other's songs in the original pitch. I am 100% sure Nanda Malini cannot sing most of the high-pitch songs by Sujatha in the original pitch, while Sujatha can sing all of Nanda Malini's songs in the original pitch.
Nandamalini cannot even imagine the vocal range Sujatha is singing. She is on par with even Lata Mangeshkar. Nandamalini's range is very very narrow. Those who know music know this fact.
Madam Latha Walpola is the greatest and best Sri Lankan female singer. Her range is unparalleled.
Amazing female voice. I love your songs very much.
She is the most talented female singer in Sri Lanka.
Subani Harshani Muthukumarana! That's the only super star you ever have to listen to!
When asked who is the Greatest Sri Lankan Female Singer ever, the answer is subjective. If you believe that vocal resonation and voice projection in songs define the best, then consider Mangalika Thennakoon or Subani Harshani Muthukumarana. If you prefer a techno voice with a booming beat, then Surenie De Mel or Baby Shanika might be your favorites.
And if you think that lustful, sexy performances with high sex appeal make someone the best, then without a doubt, go for Kumari Munasinghe. However, if you are talking about absolute knowledge of what one can do, not to mention knowing exactly how to execute your voice in any particular style for the feel of an individual song, plus the ability to sing with emotions, then Ginger cannot be touched!
She is truly one of the amazing voices in Sri Lanka and she entered the industry with great knowledge and practice. She doesn't just have an amazing singing style but a humble and decent personality.
She won both the best and most popular awards in the year 2016, proving that she should by far be in the top three at least.
Her voice is enchanting. She should be way higher on this list.
No one is a singer in Sri Lanka like her! Great voice!
Saheli is amazing! Once Latha Walpala said that Saheli's vocal range is unimaginable and beyond my capabilities.
At another occasion, Kumari Sandalatha Munasinghe said that Saheli is the sexiest girl ever born in Sri Lanka!
Ayubowan, Maharajaaneni!
What a song! I have never heard a song like "Ayubowewa Maharajaaneni" from anyone in Sri Lanka. Saheli Rochana Gamage, whom I will refer to as SRG, puts everything into singing this piece of music.
When the song was released, voters of "Lankawhores" magazine voted it as the first on their list of songs to become the national anthem of Sri Lanka. Additionally, the readers' poll of a famous Colombo nightclub voted it as the best song ever written in Sri Lankan history. I'm sure SRG will go to parliament because she has impressed so many with this song.
Well done SRG, you have made our nation even prouder than the war heroes!
The Sri Lankan Milanese Nightingale! What a beautiful voice and a collection of songs!
What a soulful voice which colored our prime!
She is the most attractive among all these female vocalists.
How can you ever forget "Reza, Reza, Reza Magareza"? Anuradha Perera is the girl to vote for! I'm proud to be Sri Lankan because of Anuradha Perera.
Anuradha Perera is one of the most significant singers in Sri Lankan music and has influenced the style of many of her contemporaries, including Deepika Priyadarshini, Nirosha Virajini, Samitha Mudunkotuwa, and later rock vocalist Chandani Hettiarachi and punk vocalist Rushmi Sangeetha who imitated her performing style extensively. Ginger (also known as Judith White Bulathsinhalakerawalapitiya) of 'Flashpack' and Saheli Rawchanagamagay of 'The Rajapakshian Kingbutts' were also influenced by Anuradha.
Encyclopædia Sirilanka notes in its 256th Chapter, page 2994 that, "After extensively studying the patriotic vocal style and expressive hat palette of the culmination of the two Renaissance singers Damayantha Kuruppu and Tyronne Maddumage, Anuradha created her unique and unmatched sound that has defined Sri Lankan singing: high treble and middle, an abundance of tremolo, very loud volume, and meaningful words." The lyrics in her songs define the medieval Sinhala scholar within Anuradha.
She even received the Mario Ananda Award in 1999. In 2002, GO magazine named Anuradha No. 1 on their list of the 1000 Greatest Sri Lankan Vocalists of All-Time, a list which also included Iraj Weerarathna at the last place, who was influenced by Anuradha as well. In 2005, 'Tharuni' Magazine named Anuradha the greatest female singer on their list of 100 Greatest Female Singers in Sri Lanka. She was voted the "greatest voice in the sub-continent" in a poll conducted by Amrapali Varma, her best good friend at Bhatkhande Music Institute University, Lucknow, India. In 2014, Anuradha was honored with the title MBBS (Member of Bodhu Bala Sena) for her "services to Sri Lankan music."
Her famous song 'Mata number Himi nethi Baw' is widely regarded as the greatest song written in the history of Sri Lanka, and Latha Wal Pola cited that 'Reza Magareza' is the most Sri Lankanly felt sound ever created by any Sri Lankan.
One of the most talented of the young crowd and a down-to-earth girl. She is very flexible with her singing. All the best!
Judy is not only a singer, she is an actress, scriptwriter, composer, and a very good human being. She is a diamond to the whole world. Priceless human being too.
I think she sings meaningful and heartfelt songs compared to the others on this list.
May you rest in peace, madam. You are the greatest singer in Sri Lanka. You will never be forgotten, madam.
Absolutely the best. No doubt about it. She is the favorite singer of Mahinda Rajapakse!
I saw Kumari live in concert with Plaas-baak last night in our hometown Kilinochchi! She was amazing! What an entertainer.
Unlike singers like Ginger and Baby Shanika, she wears gorgeous lingerie in her live performances to captivate the audience. Her pink-colored, dashing bra and panty yesterday was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my whole life! And oh yeah, baby! Isn't she sexy?
Kumari Sandalatha Munasinghe becomes more and more attractive every second when she sings her sensual songs on stage. She is the ultimate stage entertainer. She was attractive in 'Kumari Munasinghe Live in Anuradhapura', more so in 'Kumari Munasinghe Live in Badulla', and even more in 'Kumari Munasinghe Live in Hambantota'! If Kumari sings instead of Raini in the song 'Tharumini', she'll blow the roof off the tower of Chinthy!
Budu Saranai Sri Lanka and Kumari Munasinghe!
It's hard to separate her voice from what she was singing about. M.I.A. sang with a great deal of power, enough to shake the foundations of her country's government. A measure of a great singer is getting a message across, saying things that otherwise won't be heard.
In a world that has ways of shutting down people who talk about peace and love, M.I.A. could get that message across and inspire us. It's rare that something so serious and so beautiful as her music can rise as clearly to the top as she did. Her voice is one of the most important inspirations of our time - she was the voice of oppressed people all over the world! M.I.A. is better than Mahinda Rajapaksa for the Presidency! Vote for M.I.A!
The best! Simply the best. When we were kids, we listened to her beautiful and meaningful songs. We grew up with them.
She left her legacy with her son, Chithral. Just YouTube Dambulugale - first by Chithra and then by Chithral. Good luck and have a nice day!
Chithra can even sing death metal!
