Best Iron Maiden Guitar Solos

The Top Ten
Powerslave

This song has two solos that showcase Adrian and Murray's virtuosity in an amazing way. The first one introduces us to a peaceful condition, capturing the listener's attention with its beauty. The second solo perfectly balances melody and speed. Both are impressive, demonstrating one of the most beautiful compositions from Iron Maiden's golden age.

I stumbled upon this page after googling what everyone thought the greatest Maiden solos were, and I must say I agree with everyone! Dave and Adrian kick arse in this song, and it's definitely my favorite Maiden solo. I never get sick of listening to it. It's just a shame that the rest of the song isn't anywhere near as good as the solos!

Phantom of the Opera

I'm seeing them tonight. Can't wait. I hope they play this.

Love the classic album. Dickinson's Maiden is still great, but Di'Anno's where it's at.

Dance of Death

When I hear this solo, I always feel like I'm in an awesome dream. This solo is one of the most beautiful ever. And the harmony part between the solo is perfect.

I haven't heard too many Maiden songs, but I've heard enough songs in general to know that this song should be higher! Sickest guitar solo I've heard, anyway.

Until the time came to reunite us both, my spirit!

The Trooper

Best Iron Maiden solo! Fear of the Dark and Wasting Love are good solos too, but they are more emotional than speedy.

Oh, this guitar solo is epic! It beats Powerslave by miles. That one is far too long. This one rocks! Come on, you irons!

This is probably the best song by Iron Maiden. I could hear it every day and not get tired of it. This song really rocks my world! Up the Irons!

Alexander the Great

The solos are amazing in this piece. They give me the shivers EVERY time I hear it. I have every Maiden album, and this song by far has the most compelling and virtuosic solos among them, though the others on this list are extremely good. Adrian and Steve are amazing, as is Gers.

While I think Powerslave IS their best, this is second place for me, and I voted for it because it should be at least in the top 5. It makes you feel so powerful when you listen to it. Not to mention it's like 3 minutes long.

One of the more underrated Iron Maiden songs and solos. This is definitely in my top 5 Maiden songs.

Hallowed Be Thy Name

Not only my favorite song of all time but also one of the greatest solos I have ever heard. The combination of melody and speed is perfect in both solos. It works well with the intensity of the song. Wish I could play it.

This guitar solo is legendary! Whenever I hear this song, I can't help but want to listen to the solo over and over again. It's solos like this one that make Iron Maiden so incredible.

Powerslave is close, but for me, this is the most awe-inspiring and epic guitar solo ever. It gives me goosebumps. This is the greatest song of all time.

Aces High

In no other song have I heard such a perfect ratio of soloing to musical sense. This really adds something to the music. Instead of being a flurry of notes simply to show off the musician's prowess.

Not only a fantastic solo, but it fits the song seamlessly. The solo is like a spectacular dogfight! It's a yes from me!

Wasted Years

This song has a great riff, probably Adrian Smith's greatest solo, Steve Harris's most underrated bass line, and awesome drum fills. This song is awesome.

Mainly due to punching in the solo for a while when singing Bruce.

It just fits the whole feel of the song so perfectly.

Killers

These riffs are killer, just like the album. Fast and furious with a nice little duo at the end. To me, this album was the inspiration for the ensuing thrash metal scene.

Stranger In a Strange Land

Starts slow and melodic, fitting perfectly with the atmosphere the song tries to bring you, and then it starts to speed up to end with a climax. Adrian Smith at his best.

The best solo of all by Adrian Smith. It begins slow and melodic, and then Smith unleashes. Passionate playing at its finest.

Best solo ever. I actually get myself into the posture without my knowledge and imitate Adrian.

The Newcomers

? Infinite Dreams

How is this not on the list? It has a fantastic solo that really emphasizes the song's mood.

? The Aftermath

Beautiful solo by Janick Gers, one of his best. Not only that, it sends a shiver down my spine. Absolutely wonderful, such an underrated solo.

The Contenders
Fear of The Dark
Caught Somewhere In Time

14, really? Iron Maiden is the palm of my hand. Solos on the songs Powerslave, Alexander the Great, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Stranger in a Strange Land, Wasted Years, Flight of Icarus, and many more don't match up to this song. Mind-blowing solos from both Dave and Adrian. They have thrown every guitar trick in your face and slapped you hard with it. Awesome solo. Hear it again and vote, friends.

This song has the greatest guitar of Maiden, fast and sharp! Second place would be Alexander the Great.

What!?!? This should definitely be higher. It's one of the most epic solos the world has ever heard.

Blood Brothers

Come on people, this one deserves to be in the top 10. Both Janick's and Dave's solos move me. Every time I listen to their solos, they give me goosebumps. They are just too awesome.

The Number of the Beast

How can this be rated this low?! This is the best Maiden solo ever! Since I can't use the f-word, to hell with you all!

Afraid to Shoot Strangers

No doubt the best guitar solo. Maybe not the most technical solo, but definitely solid. One of the first bits I learned to play on my guitar. I can't understand why it is ranked so low.

To Tame a Land
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

Since "The Wicker Man" is not included in the list (God knows why), I'll vote for my second best solo - excuse me, I meant series of solos. An epic song, an even more epic series of solos, particularly by Adrian Smith. Maiden at its best, with all the vocal and guitar melodies and harmonies, and a "boom-busting" rhythm.

Metal cheers from Greece,
XV

How is this not on the list? The part leading up to this is so epic! And the solo itself... GODLIKE. Enough said.

No More Lies
Sign of the Cross

Yep, this one! The Sign of the Cross. Who doesn't like this one? Maybe it isn't the longest solo, maybe a couple of seconds long, but it is just an awesome solo. I love the guitars and vocals. It is Blaze Bayley, so what!?

Anyway, I like Bruce Dickinson more, but this is just awesome.

The solo is more like 6 minutes of guitar! Blaze does it brilliantly, and personally, I don't like him, but he does some good ones on The X Factor, like Fortunes of War, Look for the Truth, and The Aftermath.

The best solo for me. Great bass in the background. So, this song has, for me, the best solo of all. I also like the Dance of Death solo, but this is just the best solo of all! UP THE IRONS!

The Evil That Men Do
Run to the Hills

Definitely one of the best written and entertaining tunes ever.

Ghost of the Navigator
The Prisoner

Deserves to be much, much higher. This, Stranger in a Strange Land, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Phantom of the Opera, Dance of Death, and Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner have the best solos in my opinion.

Can this solo be any more EPIC? It's both Dave and Adrian's best solo ever. I just love it.

The Nomad

Such a wonderful and beautiful solo! It is the best instrumental section in any Maiden song, in my opinion. I love it!

Flight of Icarus

This track has the perfect balance of story and song.
