Top 10 Most Terrifying Supernatural Creatures and Beings

Throughout history humans feared the things that lurked in the darkness and unknown. Which paranormal being would you vote to be most terrifying?
The Top Ten
1 Demons

Whether haunting an innocent-looking old house up for sale, lurking in the forests where you least expect an attack, or even being summoned to perform dark deeds, these ominous beings will use an aura of darkness to alter your emotional state. They twist reality to make you drop to your knees crying and can even hurt or kill your most cherished family members to see you suffer. The worst part is that human governments and authorities are too logic-minded to help with anything along the lines of the supernatural.

I'm sorry, but demons are the most real and terrifying things of them all. They are the source of all things evil and terrifying.

2 Black-Eyed Kids

They seem innocent and appear at the most random and vulnerable times - on the side of the road, at your doorstep, or in a dark alley. They're always wanting to be in your presence, always needing you to open the door. They can't come in unless you invite them. Since those who report these cases are fortunate, no one knows what happens when you do let them in, nor whether people were weak-minded enough to do so.

I read an article in a magazine about them a couple of months ago, and they creep me out. But what happens if you let them in?

3 Slender Man The Slender Man is a fictional supernatural character that originated as an Internet meme created by Something Awful forums user Eric Knudsen

Easily the scariest thing I have ever seen. I recently downloaded the iOS app for Slender Rising and dropped my iPod and ran away when I saw Slender Man.

A faceless silhouette that steals children. A tall man with tendrils who disappears with his victims, never to be seen again.

4 Skinwalkers / Shapeshifters

Native Americans fear them to the point that they avoid talking about them. They can be anyone. Think of the movie "The Thing," except there's no way to weed them out with science lab experiments.

Skinwalkers are among the most malevolent beings on Earth, as powerful as demons. Like many evil creatures, Skinwalkers feed on negative energy, often targeting humans who can provide a rich source of this energy. Once they capture a person, they employ various methods of torture to elicit the greatest amount of fear from their victim. The more intense the fear, the more satisfying the feeding experience for them. There are rumors of Skinwalkers consuming entire families, one after the other, forcing each to watch the torture of their loved ones. This amplifies the fear and intensifies their feeding.

Their hunger is never sated. They can enter a feeding frenzy, going on rampages that last for weeks or even months, significantly reducing the population in the areas they hunt. Escaping a Skinwalker's notice is nearly impossible. They are incredibly perceptive and have coexisted with humans for several hundred years. They seem to understand us in ways we cannot comprehend. However, people of great faith are never attacked, and the same goes for their immediate families. Their homes appear to be safe havens. Evil attracts evil, while good repels it. The sinner is the one the Skinwalker actively seeks out.

Skinwalkers can mimic humanity so convincingly that they can deceive even the most advanced technology. X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs are all incapable of revealing the true being in front of them. Individuals who commit sins against God, such as pedophiles, rapists, and murderers, without repenting, are particularly vulnerable to Skinwalkers. No one has ever stood against a Skinwalker and lived to tell the tale. Apart from faith, we know of no other weaknesses. We don't even know what they truly look like. Our ignorance should terrify everyone. They have had several millennia to perfect the arts of torture and inducing fear.

They are rumored to stalk their victims from a distance, learning their weaknesses and fears. Once they have gathered enough... more

5 Ghosts

Whether they're here due to a tragic death, to warn you of evil, or to continue their evil human deeds in the afterlife, ghosts always make you realize the world is cruel and unfair. The hardest part to grasp is that it could be you if you have something to hold onto when you're dead. Who would want to never see their loved ones on the other side and stay on Earth?

Ghosts are always creepy. They are something that's around, but you can't see, haunting places. They are also kind of sad in a way because most of them were murdered or suffered some other tragedy and couldn't find any rest.

6 Ghouls / Zombies / Undead

The undead are always crowd-pleasers in movies, but in real life, it's more of a spiritual phenomenon. The fear stems from the fact that the undead are often flesh-eaters or even vengeful souls hoping to strike terror into the lives of mortals.

Cannibalism is not cool! Even if you're undead.

7 Aliens / The Greys

If you watch TV documentaries, read about alien abductions, or even watch the X-Files series, you'll only scratch the surface of the cruelty and merciless nature of these beings. One abduction case tells of aliens extracting a human fetus from its mother. What else are they capable of? And no one can do anything about it. The worst part is they always have expressionless faces and black, empty eyes that show neither emotion nor soul.

8 Witches

The human race becomes hysterical when they believe evil is among them. Paranoia can drive a town insane if people think someone is controlling their fate. Witchcraft can be either good or bad, but the mere mention of the word raises red flags for Christians and prompts them to play the blame game. It's much like a game of Russian roulette.

Witches do exist, but not in the traditional sense. They either worship and revere nature or are into the occult.

9 Vampires

Vampires are like great people with fangs that suck blood to stay alive, but they also have great personalities.

10 The Grim Reaper

Death comes to all. Enough said.

If you see him, it's the end of your life. Pick him if you fear death.

The Contenders
11 Medusa

Her slender snake body can coil around you, and her humanoid torso is capable of wielding weapons. Worst of all, her gaze can turn you to stone. The most difficult of enemies is one you cannot look at directly.

12 Werewolves A werewolf or lycanthrope is a mythological or folkloric human with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf or a therianthropic hybrid wolf-like creature, either purposely or after being placed under a curse or affliction.

These deadly yet fascinating creatures have many advantages. They are said to be men by day and wolves by night. Many movies and shows feature werewolves, such as Twilight, with the main werewolf being Jacob, played by Taylor Lautner - the OG Teen Wolf. The show Teen Wolf includes Tyler Posey, Dylan O'Brien, Holland Roden, Crystal Reed, and many more. However, some folklore suggests that there are different species of werewolves.

I love werewolves. They are my favorite classic movie monster. They're so cool!

13 Manananggal

An evil witch whose torso separates from her pelvis, she swoops down to snatch children off the streets in the Philippines. The only way to defeat one is to find its pelvis and legs, a task that may be truly terrifying as they could be miles away while she stalks you from the dark night skies.

14 Banshees
15 Leviathan
16 The Rake
17 Shadow People

These beings feed off your fear. If you want them to leave you alone, think positive thoughts and don't show them fear.

18 Winchesters
19 Baphomet
20 Cthulhu Cthulhu is a fictional cosmic entity created by writer H. P. Lovecraft and first introduced in the short story "The Call of Cthulhu", published in the American pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1928. Considered a Great Old One within the pantheon of Lovecraftian cosmic entities, the creature has since been... read more
21 Wendigo

The legend of the Wendigo originates from Native American (Algonquian) mythology. This creature was once a person who resorted to cannibalism when their village began to starve during a long winter. The Algonquians believed that consuming human flesh endowed a person with powers such as super speed, super strength, and immortality.

After the first taste of human flesh, the individual would be driven to consume more. They would continue to eat until they became something less than human. As mentioned earlier, they are immortal, so they keep feeding on human flesh unless they are killed. Their known weaknesses are silver and fire.

22 Ziltoid the Omniscient
23 Jersey Devil
24 The Mahaha
25 Incubi Incubus is an American alternative rock band from Calabasas, California. The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist Brandon Boyd, lead guitarist Mike Einziger, and drummer Jose Pasillas while enrolled in Calabasas High School and later expanded to include bassist Alex "Dirk Lance" Katunich, and Gavin "DJ... read more
