Kurosawa brings a few of his usual players into the cast: Toshiro Mifune, Takashi Shimura, Kamatari Fujiwara, Yoshio Tsuchiya, as well as Seiji Miyaguchi, who was best known as Kyuzo in 'Seven Samurai'. Mifune plays the protagonist with restrained rage, as a character who wants to be bad but can't quite manage.
