1 Resident Evil 4

This is my favorite game on a sony console aside form Final Fantasy VII. No other violent video game is as good... except Assassin's Creed and Bioshock maybe.

This game is so good that capcom can never recapture the gold of it. Even though the sequels can't compare, there's no denying that this game is the best in capcoms catalog! MASTERPIECE!

Definitely don't disagree with this at #1. This forever changed the third person shooter genre. One of my favorite games of all-time.

I played it for a long time and it never gets boring. It doesn't matter if it has bad graphics, the game is awesome.

2 Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I wouldn't classify Mass Effect 2 as a third person shooter. It is a fantastic game though, this game is everything an action adventure title should be; and it happens to be a third person shooter. Tight gameplay mechanics and awesome set pieces make this one stand out.

This game is just amazing. Great quality, great action scenes, great story. It should really be first

3 Red Dead Redemption

You will never get bored of this game because there is so many things to do and so many places to explore. Even better than Grand Theft Auto IV and that means a lot!

Not rockstar's best game, the worlds best game.

When you shoot enemy's they have realistic physical responses to the gun blasts

4 Mass Effect 2

My favorite game of all time.

5 Gears of War

There are many great games on this list and I think Mass Effect 2 is one of the greatest games of all time, but it's a RPG. Star Wars Battlefront 2 was my First Shooter so it is a part of my childhood, but not the best 3rd Person Shooter.
Gears of War is a awesome game and it is an Evolution for that Genre. Nothing more to say.

Its gears it needs to be number one it had beautiful graphics for the time and gave a new cover system.

Why the hell is this not at number 1?

6 Dead Space

The atmosphere in this game is truly a class above any other yet to come. Tight controls, great story and characters, and upgrading your weapons gives you a real sense of having a fighting chance at surviving.

What can be said its beautiful and at times expresses true horror.

7 Grand Theft Auto V

This is an open world game.

8 Star Wars Battlefront II

Actually has a story line unlike just about every other shooter out there. Still trying to find disk for my old copy.

Yeah because Dead Space, Gears, Uncharted, Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, Resident Evil and a ton of others don't have a story.

9 Max Payne

This game is without a doubt a masterpiece. The mood is perfectly captured all throughout with an amazing soundtrack, beautiful sound effects, and a great atmosphere overall. The style of the game is superb and holds up as my favorite game ever. Why this is not number 1 blows my mind.

It's obviously the best third person shooter game ever made, without doubt. It's a masterpiece. It's a revolution for it's time. Story, gameplay, characters... all of them are amazing. The Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto, Mafia... All of them are nothing compared to this game.

One of the best games of the 2000s. Better than most shooters these days that are solely based on Multiplayer and co-op. Has the best story, best character development and one of the best settings ever. Period.

Gameplay is amazing and punching feels like a real brawl, It's so satisfying!

11 Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV is the best first person game cause there is no limit in what you can do. If you ever defeat the story mode (which would take a while), you can always cause destruction, hang out with friends, date, go bowling, pool etc. and go on tours around the city.

The graphics are amazing and the setting looks so realistic that is probably one of the biggest games in history.
