Top 10 Best Third Person Shooters

Third-person shooters offer a unique perspective that combines the intense, quick-fire gameplay of a first-person shooter with the broader field of view of a top-down strategy game. It's a genre that has shaped and continues to shape the gaming landscape, from the earliest, crude 3D polygons of '90s classics to the nearly photorealistic, sprawling open worlds of modern epics.

The genre is diverse, with entries spanning all sorts of settings and styles. Maybe you're a fan of the tactical, cover-based shooting in games like "Gears of War" or "Tom Clancy's The Division". Perhaps the over-the-top action and blockbuster-style set pieces of the "Uncharted" series are more your speed. Or do you enjoy the freedom and chaos of open-world games like "Grand Theft Auto V" or "Just Cause". The possibilities are vast and wildly different, just like the games themselves.

We have gathered a hefty list of some of the most acclaimed, popular, and influential third-person shooters of all time. But here's the thing - we want to hear from you. We want your voice to be part of the collective decision making of thousands who have already cast their votes.

Are you into the hard-hitting, gritty, realistic experiences or do you lean towards the more fantastical, sci-fi elements of gaming? Do you prefer the complex narratives and character-driven plots that give your shooting a sense of purpose, or is the pure, unadulterated thrill of the combat enough to keep you coming back?

The gaming world is broad and as diverse as its players, so no choice is the wrong choice. It's a celebration of our collective love for third-person shooters, and every vote adds another layer to the legacy of this vibrant genre. It's time to make your mark. Get in there and vote for the games you believe deserve to be at the very top of the list.
The Top Ten
Resident Evil 4

This is my favorite game on a Sony console aside from Final Fantasy VII. No other violent video game is as good... except Assassin's Creed and Bioshock, maybe.

This game is so good that Capcom can never recapture its gold. Even though the sequels can't compare, there's no denying that this game is the best in Capcom's catalog. MASTERPIECE!

I definitely don't disagree with this being number one. This game forever changed the third-person shooter genre. One of my favorite games of all time.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I wouldn't classify Mass Effect 2 as a third-person shooter. It is a fantastic game though. Uncharted 2 is everything an action-adventure title should be, and it happens to be a third-person shooter. Tight gameplay mechanics and awesome set pieces make this one stand out.

This game is just amazing. Great quality, great action scenes, great story. It should really be first.

Red Dead Redemption

You will never get bored of this game because there are so many things to do and so many places to explore. Even better than Grand Theft Auto IV, and that means a lot!

Not Rockstar's best game, but the world's best game.

When you shoot enemies, they have realistic physical responses to the gun blasts.

Mass Effect 2
Gears of War

There are many great games on this list, and I think Mass Effect 2 is one of the greatest games of all time, but it's an RPG. Star Wars Battlefront 2 was my first shooter, so it is a part of my childhood, but it's not the best third-person shooter.

Gears of War is an awesome game and it is an evolution for that genre. Nothing more to say.

It's Gears. It needs to be number one. It had beautiful graphics for the time and introduced a new cover system.

Why the hell is this not at number one?

Dead Space

The atmosphere in this game is truly a class above any other yet to come. Tight controls, a great story, and memorable characters. Upgrading your weapons gives you a real sense of having a fighting chance at surviving.

What can be said? It's beautiful and, at times, expresses true horror.

Grand Theft Auto V
Star Wars Battlefront II

It actually has a storyline, unlike just about every other shooter out there. Still trying to find a disk for my old copy.

Max Payne

This game is, without a doubt, a masterpiece. The mood is perfectly captured throughout with an amazing soundtrack, beautiful sound effects, and a great atmosphere overall. The style of the game is superb and it holds up as my favorite game ever. Why this is not number one blows my mind.

It's obviously the best third-person shooter game ever made, without a doubt. It's a masterpiece. It's a revolution for its time. The story, gameplay, characters... all of them are amazing. The Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto, Mafia... all of them are nothing compared to this game.

The Last of Us

Gameplay is amazing and punching feels like a real brawl. It's so satisfying!

The Newcomers

? Spy Fiction
? Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands
The Contenders
Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV is the best open-world game because there is no limit to what you can do. If you ever complete the story mode (which would take a while), you can always cause destruction, hang out with friends, date, go bowling, play pool, and go on tours around the city.

The graphics are amazing, and the setting looks so realistic that it is probably one of the biggest games in history.

Fallout 3

It's fun, it's creative, and it is explosive!

This had better be number one soon...

Mafia

Resident Evil has nothing on this third-person shooter about the Mafia. Who needs Chris Redfield when you can have Vito Scaletta and Joe Barbaro?

Gears of War 2
Max Payne 3

Amazing game. The airport shootout at the end was one of the most powerful moments I've ever experienced in gaming.

Really, a masterpiece by Rockstar. I enjoyed every second of playing.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Socom U.S. Navy SEALs

Massive experience. I started online gaming on PS2 with this legendary game.

Gears of War 3
Saints Row: The Third
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing
