God of War III
Released in 2010 for the PlayStation 3, God of War III is the fifth installment in the franchise and the conclusion of the original Greek saga. It follows Kratos as he wages war against Zeus and the Olympian gods after the events of God of War II. The game featured major graphical upgrades, massive boss battles, and refined combat using the Blades of Exile.
The third God of War was a piece of stun! The story and atmosphere showed some of the greatest a GoW game could offer. The saddest ending in video game history is in here with a sad song attached to it.
God of War III is the epitome of scale, action, and immersion. It took everything great about the series and made it better.
The only God of War game that I ever played and still play. I'm going to try God of War (2018) if I have some money.

God of War II
Released in 2007 for the PlayStation 2, God of War II continues the story of Kratos after he becomes the new God of War. After Zeus betrays him, Kratos seeks vengeance by aligning with the Titans to change his fate. The game built on the original with larger environments, additional weapons, and more elaborate puzzles.
Best story of the series, most consistent gameplay, and while not drastically different from the first, it was a smoother and more enjoyable experience overall. God of War III might have tightened the mechanics, but holistically, God of War II is the best.
God of War II is an awesome title. The story is what gives it the feel. It is better than anyone may think. It is full of twists and epic moments, but with some bad-looking islands, that is what completely lets this epic game down.
AMAZING GAME! All God of War games are great, but this one is a masterpiece. I love it so much. The Colossus of Rhodes boss fight gives me so much nostalgia.

God of War
The first entry in the series was released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. It introduces Kratos, a Spartan warrior bound to Ares, who embarks on a quest to kill his master after being tricked into murdering his family. The game established the franchise's signature hack-and-slash combat, mythological setting, and cinematic presentation.
God of War (original) is definitely the best in the series. The atmosphere is what made it the best in my honest opinion, and it is God of War fully, not like Ascension.
I was blown away after playing this game for the first time. GOW 2 and 3 improved on the formula, but the final boss fight with Ares is the best in the series.
Best pure GOW game. Others all have too much "bling" for me, but may be okay for the hardcore gamer.

God of War: Ascension
Launched in 2013 for the PlayStation 3, God of War: Ascension serves as a prequel to the main series. It details Kratos's struggle to break free from his oath to Ares after being tricked into killing his family. The game introduced multiplayer for the first time in the franchise, along with new mechanics like environmental interactions and limited time manipulation.
The newest entry in the series is visually awesome but sadly does not live up to the great story the previous games provided, though it is worth the time seeing some of the most eye-popping map designs and atmosphere in this game series' history.

God of War (2018)
Released for PlayStation 4 in 2018, this installment shifts the series from Greek to Norse mythology. It follows an older Kratos and his son Atreus on a journey to fulfill Faye's final wish of scattering her ashes. The game introduced an over-the-shoulder camera, reworked combat, and a stronger emphasis on narrative and character development.
This is the best of the series by far currently and even the best game of all time. It is not my most favorite game of all time, but everything it does, it does perfectly in every way. It is not easy to say this for a game, but God of War achieved the impossible!
Also, oh gosh! This game's soundtracks are beyond perfect for a Medieval, Mythology based game. Goosebumps every second... holy wow, I have never felt so much epic from game soundtracks. Ashes, God Of War Theme, Memories of the Mother, Lullaby of the Giants, The Dragon, Deliverance, Witch of the Woods, Giant's Prayer!
This game is not only the best in the series, but it sets a new standard within the games industry itself. God of War (2018) is everything I love about video games and I wish more games were like it.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta
Launched in 2010 for the PlayStation Portable, Ghost of Sparta expands on Kratos's backstory. The plot centers on his quest to find his long-lost brother Deimos, revealing more about his family and origins. It was widely noted for pushing the PSP's technical limits with detailed visuals and fast-paced combat.
Ghost of Sparta is not - definitely not - the best if you actually look at it the right way. It is dark-themed, with a nice story brought forward, but does not exactly live up to the standards of map design and soundtrack the other games gave the gamer.
-
God of War Chains of Olympus
Developed for the PlayStation Portable, Chains of Olympus was released in 2008. The prequel explores Kratos's service to the gods before the events of the original game, including his mission to rescue Helios. It showcased how the PSP hardware could deliver console-style visuals, combat, and boss encounters in a portable format.
Even though this is a spin-off origin story title, it is groundbreaking. The graphics, visuals, atmosphere, story, and bosses make this nearly tied with the outstanding GoW1.
-
God of War: Betrayal
Released in 2007 as a mobile game, God of War: Betrayal is a side-scrolling action title. It features Kratos pursuing an assassin who framed him for murder, leading to conflicts with both humans and monsters. This was the only 2D installment in the series and was developed for Java-enabled mobile devices.
What am I supposed to say? It is not good, even as a mobile spinoff. The combat is bland, the story is bland, and the game is a bland Java game that does not even seem to have a soundtrack. Get it free on your old Java phone if you still have one. Overall, this game does not make an impact on anything in the trilogy and is not worth it.

God of War: A Call from the Wilds
This 2018 text-based game was released on Facebook Messenger as a companion to God of War (2018). It tells the story of Atreus on his first solo adventure in the Norse wilds. The short interactive narrative served as promotional material and expanded the game's lore outside the main console release.
-
God of War Ragnarök
Released in 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Ragnarök continues the Norse saga introduced in the 2018 game. The story follows Kratos and Atreus as they face the prophesied destruction of the world while encountering gods such as Thor and Odin. It expanded the combat system, refined companion mechanics, and added new realms to explore across the Nine Realms.
This game is so good and it's just as good as the 2018 one.
