Best Students from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
The characters from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair are, in general, more developed than those in the first game. That said, some characters still stand out as being particularly well-written or memorable. As with anything even slightly related to Danganronpa, there are spoilers below.
His character personality was really interesting, especially how he was a breeder and looked nothing like one. Because of that, he had probably the funniest moments ever. Seeing him die just made my friend and me heartbroken. He even sacrificed himself in a way. He was a very good, interesting character, and seeing him die was very sad. But I'm glad he was able to live longer than the rest.
In my opinion, Gundham Tanaka is the best character in Danganronpa history. His execution was the only one that made me shed genuine tears. Behind his evil persona, he shows that he is truly kind and caring. Him and Nekomaru sacrificing themselves for the rest of the students was such a courageous thing to do, and let's not forget that his free time events with Hajime are fantastic.
Fuyuhiko went through a lot of character development, and I even liked him before the second trial. He reminds me of someone from "Wings of Fire," considering they're both pretty much tsunderes and both of their names mean winter. His Yakuza status and being the heir to the largest Yakuza is really cool. It also caused pressure on Fuyuhiko, making him believe he had to be better than everyone else and that he had to work to earn his position.
I don't know if anyone is dedicated enough to read on, but if you've made it this far, I suggest you just watch a character analysis or you can just keep reading. Him being snappy and threatening was just a cover to mask who he really was. But he also meant a lot of his threats and was just a little angry midget overall. His character development in the second trial really got him "spiced up" as a character, proving how much he cared for Peko and that he really did have redeeming qualities. It also proves that he isn't a selfish brat, and that he cared about his little sister enough to try to avenge her, and that he also cared about Peko and didn't want her to act like a tool.
After his near-death experience trying to save Peko (I believe this is the first interruption from the watching students in an execution), he really changed and tried to make the best out of Peko's sacrifice. He contributed more and tried to be a better person. He also tried being more open, like giving Akane advice about Nekomaru and how she should cherish the time she had with him after he became a robot. In his FTE, he also tells Hajime that whatever important women are in his life, he should appreciate them being alive and thank them. He also shows affection, saying that once he escaped Jabberwock Island, he would first visit his sister's grave, then make one for Peko and Mahiru.
Overall, Fuyuhiko is a great character, and you should still watch his character analysis video even if you've read this far.
Ibuki is a strange character to me. She doesn't contribute to the plot at all, but her personality is so perfect that you can overlook this. The constant subtle music references mixed with her cheerful nature and her lack of coherence in conversations really make her entertaining to speak with.
She is so cool! Guys, she doesn't deserve to die. Her style is so cool, and her personality - guys, take the free time with her. You won't regret it.
We even have the same birthday. Was it not meant to be? Her style is immaculate, and I'd gladly date her.
Many claim that he's a psychopath without going into his reasons - not to mention his illnesses. He is a morally grey character overall. Because of his mental illness, Komaeda is incapable of sarcasm.
He lies about lying in order to protect Hinata. He saw that Hinata was starting to sympathize with him and might even forgive him, so he pushed Hinata (and his own romantic feelings) away in order to protect him from his luck cycle.
Anyway, he is a misunderstood character that I absolutely love because of the way he fights his own backstory. He doesn't even believe in hope himself - that is what weighs his actions and everything he does.
It's nice to have a pleasant character among the distrust and hatred that these games can be full of. Her serial killer obsession was great, and getting angry at Kazuichi never failed to get a laugh out of me.
I love her. She is true royalty - pretty and kind.
Occult-obsessed foreign princess.
From the start, I found him to be much better than Makoto. The main reason for this is that he didn't spend three-quarters of the game saying that he was useless, which annoyed me in THH. His massive development in Chapter 6 was also a major reason why I find him to be such an amazing character in the game.
I love orange juice boi so much, even though he comes off as plain.
Hinata was wonderful and made me the happiest gamer ever when he went super Saiyan.
Just go through her free time events, and you get a lot of character development out of it. Despite just being Boss Baby's hitman, she has a lot of personality under her thinking of being a tool.
Her belief in being a tool itself is interesting enough, and she's really cool as a swordswoman.
She basically contributed nothing until her final moments, but that made Fuyuhiko a better character rather than her. Her plan was really clever, though.
Best girl! She deserved so much better, to be honest. I also wish she had more screen time.
I don't understand why people say he did nothing in the game. He was like Hiro, but useful. His perverted nature was genuinely funny as he got more and more ridiculous in every chapter.
Both the camera in chapter 3 and fixing the lift in chapter 4 made him actually useful.
Kazuichi needs so much more love. He's so underrated, and his backstory is really interesting.
Sure, he may be loud, but I love him. I find him to be a really funny addition to the game, as his brand of stupid humor somehow works. His transformation into Mechamaru is also one of my favorite moments in the game. His free time events also nicely flesh him out as an actual character.
I loved the relationship between Akane and Nekomaru, and I loved Akane's fiery and loyal personality. The fact that she's so fond of food (because honestly, who doesn't love food?) is endearing.
Her free time events really explore the kind of place Akane grew up in.
I love Mikan. I feel bad for her, and I can relate to her a lot. I can see why people might not like her because of her personality, which is a fair criticism, but the thing that bothers me is people hate her because of her reason for killing, when that wasn't even her fault (it was Junko who made her that way, and it's more elaborated on in the DR3 anime).
Honestly, she deserved better, and I hate Junko for what she did to my poor baby.
I just feel sorry for her. Mikan was such a sweet nurse, willing to help anyone who's hurt. If it wasn't for the disease that made her remember the time she was brainwashed by Junko, she wouldn't have been forced to kill Ibuki and Hiyoko.
Mahiru is my favorite Danganronpa character. She's so underrated.
He's SOOOO funny. I probably wouldn't like this guy if he was real, but as a video game character, he is super entertaining. When he's not being a perv, he's actually a down-to-earth guy and is really nice and caring about others, especially his mama.
Most people haven't done his free time events, and you really do get to see the character development that sadly never got to be shown in the main story. He goes from being a perverted, goofy idiot to being an incredibly respectable cook whose motive for becoming one was simply to see the ones he cares about smile while enjoying his food.
Despite only being around for one chapter, he really made an impact. His kind nature was a great contrast to the Byakuya from the first game, and his obsession with food was priceless.
His free time events also made him one of the best characters. It's a shame he was only around for one chapter.
