Top Ten Greatest Movie Trilogies
I can't stand the people that say that lord of the rings is too long, and that its only about people walking for hours. First of all, there are plenty of movies in the world that are almost 3 hours long, and many of them are acclaimed and considered classic. People that say lord of the rings is boring obviously have a very short attention span, and can only watch movies with action in every scene. This trilogy is absolutely beautiful, every scene. And the soundtrack is the most moving music I've ever heard in my life. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Star Wars, and the dark knight, and all the other amazing trilogies, but lord of the rings will always be the best (in my eyes)
I think it is a widely most-shared opinion, that almost nothing can beat "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy. I also believe that this is one of the most rare cases when the films actually do justice to the original books and this is definitely a bonus. There are so many things I want to say, so many points of view I would love to express about this film trilogy but I know deep down that no matter what is said here, nothing can compare to the experience of watching all-three films-especially if doing that for the very first time. I suggest anyone who is yet to do it, DO IT! You have the faintest idea of what you are missing out!
-Plus, who can forget about this all-time record breaking, with all the 11 Oscars won by the third film (The Return Of The King), a fact that rendered the film alongside the only two other films to ever achieve such a record-number of Oscar winning: "Ben-Hur" and "Titanic".-
The Lord of the Rings should always, ALWAYS, be number 1. The plot is absolutely amazing. The first movie is a little lighter than the last two, but that just leaves more space for plot development and explanations. It actually matches the books (with the exception of Tom Bombadil) and it all has consistent quality. The characters are amongst the best ever created, and the battles are told realistically yet with a great fantasy aspect. The different story lines for the last two movies only serve to make them more amazing than the first movie. There are so many details that it's very easy to miss most of them the first time watching the movies. Peter Jackson did a terrific job of adapting the Lord of the Rings books into live action films. The cast is stupendous and play their characters perfectly. This is one movie trilogy that cannot be anything remotely close to bad.
Although SW OT is objectively the most influential and innovative trilogy, and it Originated as movie, LOTR is the best trilogy in my opinion, despite SW is overall my favorite movie franchise. Not only by critics, by even by Metacritic and Imbd users LOTR trilogy is the most acclaimed. Another difference, all OT movies are good, but ROTJ is far weaker than its prequel, while TT is weakest installment in LOTR, but it's only slightly weaker than FOTR and ROTK.
THE trilogy. Credit for establishing the formula for all trilogies that followed (establishing the world in a straightforward adventure, further developing the characters and going dark in the middle, rounding everything out by returning to the beginning in the finale). People always deduct point for Jedi (because of the Ewoks, I guess), but it's a fantastic closing act. The opening act with Jabba, Leia's slave outfit (I mean, come on), the speeder chase, that epic confrontation between Luke and the Emperor, the masterful triple-thread ending, and the ultimate redemption of Darth Vader. It's the most moving and emotional installment of the series, and who doesn't love to root for the underdogs of nature taking on and toppling the imperialistic oppressors (even if the underdogs are an army of teddy bears)?
The Star Wars originals were some of the best movies of all time (Empire Strikes Back is my personal favourite film of all time). Yes the prequels were weaker and the newer ones aren't the same with deaths of main characters from this awesome trilogy. A New Hope was both a decade defining and genre defining movie, The Empire Strikes Back was even better than the original, had a darker awesome theme, and had a genuine love story between Han and Leia which carried into Return of The Jedi, which was an awesome finale to the original trilogy. to be honest you can't find a better trilogy than Star Wars. Back To The Future and Lord of The Rings come close, but will never become what Star Wars became in the 70's and 80's.
I am a lord of the rings fanboy and even I can admit Star wars is a better trilogy. Millions have watched this films and enjoyed them from start to end. An entire generation grown with its characters and story arcs, badass battles and adventures, everything in this piece of art feels right. The lord of the rings is pure dope. But Star wars is the father of all scifi movies even when the children wouldn't like to admit it. Lotr is the brightest son of them all thou.
This started the modern day trilogy trend that we are familiar with today. Yeah maybe someone will mention the Dollars Trilogy or something else that came before this, but please tell me a trilogy series that had the pop culture effect that this one had at the time. It still holds up well and I'm not acknowledging the prequel trilogy. This opinion is based solely on the original one.
I was gping to vote for the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, but as you can see the books are the trilogy, so all the director had to was to put them into movies, and Star wars either 4-6 or 1-3 there are some flaws that you realize over time. The Dark Knight trilogy had a lot of material to work with because of the comics, but they were well made and also there is consistency between them although the comics are a lot and disperse... It was a close call with "back to the future", (althouugh the second movie of Bact to the future was the one that messed all)
The absolute brilliance in every story beat, the perfect storytelling, the fully realised heroes and villains, the cinematography, the performances, the music, everything- EVERYTHING in Nolan's trilogy is borderline perfection. My one problem with LOTR is the lack of an interesting villain, which Nolan delivers every single time.
The Dark Knight Trilogy is one of the strongest trilogies ever. Most trilogies have spoilers (Godfather Part I, Star wars VI, Jurrasic Park I, Matrix II and II). The Dark Knight Trilogy is strong all the way through ever film. Christopher Nolan is absolutely suburb in his writing and molding of his version of Batman. A modern masterpiece!
It is tough to vote on this because The Lord of The Rings and Star Wars are so close to my heart, but nothing compares to The Dark Knight Trilogy. These movies made comic books real and everything about these films are top notch. It makes you really want to believe that Batman can exist.
The first film is a legend, the second expanded the universe of toys without missing the rhythm, and the third was brilliant and with a surprise ending. The feeling that Andy is growing, and fear of toys in being rejected, will only becoming more real as the Toy Story advances, reaching its peak in the third film. Toy Story is a saga that has no lows and did not suffer from the curse of the "second or third bad movie" on what all other trilogies suffered. Seriously people, let's admit it: Toy Story is the best trilogy of all time.
This is hands down the greatest trilogy ever. Every single one is perfect. I mean perfect. 10/10. No flaws. This is where this is different from back to the future and indy and star wars (I could see an argument for LOTR). All three of those trilogies has at least one that's not as strong as the rest, whereas toy story is phenomenal straight through... CASE CLOSED.
Toy Story is the best animated movie or movie series ever. I watched it when I was little and so will my children, then my grandchildren. This movie is classic and hilarious. There are people who don't like Star Wars or the Batman trilogy, but everybody loves Toy Story.
All three movies were great. The second installment was the best: a wonderful sequel. It's really hard to choose the best one though. Massive fan of Buzz, but don't like Woody.
The first three movies are some of the most adrenaline-rushing films of all time, with the third being the best.
No one can do Indiana Jones justice except for Harrison Ford
Raiders of the Lost Ark. Temple of Doom. The Last Crusade.
The first 3 were great! But the 4th one... Just no
This movie series is great. The acting is amazing, the characters are good, the humour is actually funny, the story is great and none of the movies are bad. This is my favourite time travelling movie series of all time.
This trilogy is great because it never gets old. There's something for everyone and the soundtrack is great. Plus, Michael J Fox's performance in this movie was amazingly charming (as his characters always are) and Christopher Lloyd was brilliant as Doc. I can't imagine this movie with different actors and I'm so glad they replaced Eric Stoltz with Michael J Fox.
Brilliant movie series, with great acting, a solid plot with no holes (thinking about it will make your head spin), an awesome future in Part II, hilarious jokes, extremely quotable lines, and full of creativity. Jeez, I really want that hoverboard. And Power Lace Nikes. And a size adjustable and auto drying jacket...
All three movies were good. Most consider the first one the best, but I think the second one was the best. I enjoyed the first one, and think it's great, but I prefer the second one more. Personally, I didn't enjoy the third movie, but it was still a good film nonetheless. 8/10.
The Godfather parts I and II remain this day as two of the greatest films of all time, with the first one perhaps being THE very best. This alone is a feat that should put this trilogy in the top 3, regardless of how disappointing the third one was (which was still a good, but not great, film)
By far the best trilogy, but the first movie was the best because after that, the family ran out of people to kill!
Still easily a top 5 or 3 trilogy. Even though Part 3 wasn't extraordinary, the first 2 remain the greatest.
The first two are among the greatest movies ever made. The third wasn't as great, but not bad either.
I'm the ONLY one who saw the Spiderman trilogy as a fantastic imagining of him (excluding the emo Parker) I grew up with these masterpieces and am still enjoying the trilogy for what they are. Also I just want to point out that this trilogy is 1000 times better than amazing Spiderman and I prefer not to talk about those abominations.
I reallly liked 'the first and second movie but the third wow its just like whaaat? I don't like the fact that Venom who had been built up from the previus film is just a random guy that Peter caught making fake news and don't even get me started on EMO fkn Peter parker it's so cringe to atch and you just wonder why is this in a spiderman movie?
Spider-Man 3 is just as good as The Dark Knight...in terms of entertainment for a superhero movie
The trilogy of our modern hero Spider-Man "With Great power comes great responsibility"
I don't see why so many people hate reloaded and revolutions. I love the full trilogy so much. Reloaded is my favourite, but all of it is really amazing.
The first Matrix is my most favourite movie. However, trilogy wise... the other 2 aren't any where near as great. This is a top 10 movie trilogy though.
The greatest Action/Sci Fi Trilogy ever created, Keanu Reeves was born for that role, its just fate.
Love this trilogy. I love how Neo and Trinity's relationship developes and how Neo improves hos fighting skills.
Perfectly paced and choreographed with dark underlying themes regarding the growing and ubiquitous national security state as well as tremendous acting with great talents such as Matt Damon, Joan Allen, and Brian Cox. This trilogy revolutionized the spy genre.
The Movie with an action that broke your screen
Non stop action and suspense
Every film is a 10/10
This series just kept getting better, movie after movie. It concluded with perhaps the best cinematic experience in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and foundation for Marvel's third phase with Captain America: Civil War. Each movie has been met with near universal critical acclaim and has proved at box office that it can be loved by both critics and audience members alike.
Why is this below the Star Wars prequels? This trilogy is WITHOUT FLAW! I don't know how Jurassic Park, Godfather, and Dark Knight, that at best have 2 and at worst 1 fantastic movie in them all beat out this trilogy. This trilogy, that has three damn incredible movies contained within.
The best trilogy of all Marvel movies. As the series goes on it just keeps on getting into more and more depth in the story and the character of Steve Rogers A.K.A Captain America played by Chris Evans who does a fantastic job.
First Avenger is okay, Winter Solider is fantastic, Civil War is cringy.
Sure the plots get a bit jumbled in the second and third but there are great characters, scenes and animation, not to mention the dope soundtrack. Should be higher, and also I think Johnny depp was a fine jack sparrow, despite what many people think
How is this only 20th? It's the best thing Disney has ever produced. We have an eccentric genius pirate, who is completely fun to watch, because Jack Sparrow does whatever suits the current situation and doesn't have a real purpose as a protagonist (except for getting his crew back in the first movie), but still has the biggest impact on everybody that does have a purpose, such as Elizabeth Swan, Will Turner, Barbossa, etc, who all had major character development because of Jack.
Undeniably, the first movie was the best. However, the two following movies connected to the first with more adventure, more action, returning characters and of course, more humor. The trilogy is very fun and entertaining and makes me want to live like a pirate! What's that? Fourth movie? I have no idea what you're talking about.
I agree with everything previously said. Even though there is a fourth and will be a fifth movie, the first three are still considered a trilogy, and by me, I pretty damn awesome one. In addition, they have amazing soundtracks.
The trilogy that gets better and better. Fistful is perfection, it's only flaw is that it's a remake. Then For a Few Dollars More came along. Perfect film in every way. In fact, the only way The Good, the Bad & the Ugly beat it was the epic scope. And the way that the anti-heroes don't seem like criminals because of the backdrop displaying the horrors of war.
This trilogy should be at least TOP 5.
It gets better with every movie...
It has terrific actors and the soundtrack is ear-candy.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the best western ever made, if not one of the best movies of all the time.
The dollars trilogy has to be number one. If I were stranded on a desert island and could only pick one trilogy this would be it. Eastwood and Leone at the height of their powers. Awesome trilogy. It has to be the best of all time.
Clicked this link expecting the Dollars trilogy to be at least in the top 5, if not number one... each movie is better than the last, not to mention the classic soundtrack and brilliant acting.
The Terminator should be a lot higher! It's an amazing trilogy! It has good characters, mind-blowing action scenes and great soundtrack as well
I liked all of them except for T3 pretty much but T3 was alright
The trilogy is the terminator, judgement day, and dark fate
James Cameron's mind blowing story's about the future
The collaborative effort of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
You know a trilogy is sweet when it's named after an ice-cream
Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End.
It's named after ice cream for crying out loud
I watched these movies. I loved them. Then to my surprise, I discovered people hated them, reviled them, with a passion. I was shocked. How could anyone hate movies this fun?
These films were a milestone in cinematic history. Without them, we wouldn't have cinematic universes. The prequels practically INVENTED the concept of the cinematic universe. MCU fans owe a lot to the prequel trilogy, and while some may disagree, the films still are fun to watch.
All horrible to mediocre at best films that people are trying to call good because its star wars
Episode III was the only real good entry in the prequel episode I & II not bad but not great either.
Revenge of The Sith is my favorite movie of all time
The last stand is actually a really damn good movie it has flaws sure but the good stuff it has far outweighs the bad also the first to are great but everyone already knows that. ( Lord of the rings is still the best trilogy by the way ).
Shrek is love. Shrek is life
You know what's next
The holy trilogy
They have what three very well made movies! Great in my opinion. Men in Black, deserves a better spot than this. This series always kept giving what you wanted to see, such as: Aliens, comedy, will smith, action, sci - fi guns and a great adventure that you need to see again and again and again, all 1-3 movies!
The Jurassic Park Trilogy is one of the biggest movie trilogies in the world because Michael Crichton created the idea for Jurassic park through the means story-telling and sheer creativity. He came up with Jurassic park story because he was thinking about Dinosaurs and DNA.He created a inconceivably amazing story-telling of all three Jurassic Park movies. The artistry and film-making was just mind-blowing. The of the dinosaurs was amazing. The vocals for all of the dinosaurs is just amazing. The color designing of the dinosaurs and the texture designing of the skin is just as amazing as the performance of all of the dinosaurs. Personally, The Jurassic Park trilogy is my favorite movie trilogy is because of the authenticity of the acting, the dinosaur performances, and the authenticity in all of the dinosaurs appearances.
The Jurassic Park Trilogy is one of the most biggest movie trilogies in the world because of the artistry, special effects, and film-making are just mind-blowing. The acting is perfect the dinosaur designing through the means of coloring and texture, the vocals of all of the dinosaurs is amazing and because Michael Crichton is one of the most amazing authors in the world of story-telling, it is amazing that he conceived such an incredible idea of creating Jurassic Park through the idea of dinosaurs and DNA. All three movies are just inconceivably amazing and spectacular. The score of the all three movies are beautiful and awe-aspiring
Really awesome and underrated trilogy. Jurassic park 3 is definitely the weakest of this trilogy but it's not horrible. The first two though are awesome even though I have a couple of flaws with them.
The first one is good, the second one is not so good, the third one is better than the second one.
The Best Super Hero Trilogy. Awesome technology concept
The Hobbit should really be higher on the list. It's my favorite movie trilogy, next to Lord of the Rings and this is the prequel to Lord of the Rings! Yes, it might have worked better if it had only been two movies, but they're all great. It doesn't really match the book, but it has it's own little storyline and I love how they connected LOTR and the Hobbit. Legolas is again a great character and even though J.R.R Tolkien didn't create her, Tauriel is too.
Who cares about CGI and going off the book topics. The Hobbit Trilogy is just amazing. It may not beat Lord Of the Rings, but it started it. Epic battles and you get really attached to the characters.
Deserves to be higher cause for all the hate it gets it is probably in the top 15 greatest movie trilogies ever and is the prequel to the Lord of the rings.
Agreed, one of my favorite trilogies and has an amazing storyline
Up there with Star Wars, Indiana Jones, back to the future, and LOTR.
Give me some Sugar Baby!
Hail to the king baby
Mad Max. The Road Warrior. Bayond Thunderdome.
