Top Ten Greatest TV Series Soundtracks

The Top Ten

1 Game of Thrones

Light Of the Seven, Rains of Castermere, Main Title and The Night King are all examples of why this soundtrack is the best.

While everything about this show is of the highest quality and greatness there's no surprise that the soundtrack is excellent. From the magnificent intro to the beautiful and exciting songs and scores placed perfectly throughout show, Game of Thrones is undeniably a masterpiece with a first-rate soundtrack.

The music is so epic and intense on this show, I can listen to it for hours upon end, it plays a part in making this show great.

I can't imagine any other series topping this one. Never has anything been so epic.

2 The X Files

Where is the sopranos. Epic fail list

3 Twin Peaks Twin Peaks is an American mystery horror drama television series created by Mark Frost and David Lynch that premiered on April 8, 1990, on ABC.

Ennio Morricone DID NOT write the theme song for Twin Peaks. Angelo Badalamenti gets full credit here.

Marvelous soundtrack throughout. Twin Peaks is a cult masterpiece!

It is epic sound that will live forever

Instantly takes you there

4 Breaking Bad Breaking Bad is an American crime drama television series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. The show originally aired on the AMC network for five seasons, from January 20, 2008, to September 29, 2013.

The songs they do during the montages like in pilot or crazy handful of nothing or gliding over all are amazing

The way all sorts of different genres are incorporated, from classical to rap to ska and reggae along with Dave Porter's excellent original songs makes the show very special.

They were many great soundtracks included, and the theme soundtrack was great to

Great songs all the way and they nailed it with the final "Baby Blue" Badfinger-song

5 Battlestar Galactica (2004)

Clearly the person composing this list forgot their hearing aid while watching BSG, or quite simply never got around to it, but either offense is unforgivable given the nature of this top ten endeavor. If the 80-episode series seems too daunting, you are more than welcome to listen to the soundtrack on Youtube without watching the series, but doing either would assure this fantastic composition a place at the top of this list.

A Bob Dylan cover worked into the greatest moment in T.V. history? Battlestar should be number 1.

The soundtrack is amazing. The way they worked the song in to the story is breathtaking.

Like many other aspects of the series, Bear McCreary's ethnic/tribal space score has been plenty copied since.

6 Supernatural This haunting series follows the thrilling yet terrifying journeys of Sam and Dean Winchester, two brothers who face an increasingly sinister landscape as they hunt monsters. After losing their mother to a supernatural force, the brothers were raised by their father as soldiers who track mysterious more.

This show has the best soundtrack of all time! I swear, almost every episode, I'm saying; "Hey, I LOVE that song! "

Oh my God! This show has such a kick*** soundtrack! How can it possibly be this low?

This show's soundtrack was a perfect blend of the songs that I already knew and loved, and songs that I fell in love with.

Soundtrack not theme song! Supernatural wins hands down!

7 Doctor Who Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme produced by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "the Doctor", an extraterrestrial being from the planet Gallifrey. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. more.

I grew up with this show and it's incredible soundtrack is a part of my childhood. While I love Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad (not just the music, but those shows in general) they cannot compare to the beauty and magic of the sound of Doctor Who. Words cannot describe it, it's just breathtaking, it's some of the best music I have heard. It's up there with the music to The Lord of the Rings, Jaws, The Empire Strikes Back and 2001: A Space Odyssey. If ever you have some time to spare, use that time to listen to the soundtrack of series/seasons 1-6. It's so, so good. then watch the show if you haven't already. Then rewatch the show. Then listen to the music. Then watch it again.

I'm listening to the music right now. This is my happy place.

One of the best I have heard. Murray Gold is responsible. This orchestral genius produces a range of emotions with his epic arrangements, played expertly by the BBC Wales Orchestra. It's atmospheric and encapsulates the themes of the series perfectly.

I started playing piano because of Doctor Who, I wanted to play "A mad man with a box" and the songs of River Song. If you observe how the sountrack enters the stories of Doctor Who in the dramatic part is incredible. In part if you watch more calmly and in a technical way, the newer Murray Gold songs are sometimes versioned with reverse chords or with modified scales but which are completely different and fit each character. I highly recommend listening to the soundtrack and the series as well which is fantastic.

Whenever I heard its music, I've got thrills going on all my back! And that happens only to music containing a lot of emotions, which is the case the Doctor's soundtracks.

Easily the best soundtrack of all time. Great at capturing the emotion in the show, especially the slower ones. I think the show gains so much in terms of emotional connection because the soundtrack is so good.

"There are many great soundtracks out there, but the best has to be LOST. This soundtrack defines all the action, death, and mystery of the show. It's part of the reason why the show was so emotional. Without this soundtrack, the show would still be amazing, but not the same. It helps capture the audience, leaving them hungry for more."

If you listen to any of the compositions from this amazing show, whether you love the show or hate it, you know this has to be the number one spot.

I would argue that the music on LOST is a character of its own. Its presence heightens the emotions of each scene. LOST would not be the hit it was without its music. Whether you love or hate the show, you can't hate the soundtrack. Just check out 'There's no place like home' - you'll see what I mean.

9 The Vampire Diaries The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural teen drama television series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on the popular book series of the same name.

This show is amazing and one of the reasons for the show to be fantastic is the soundtracks... specially from season 1 _ 4 it had a great songs...And whoever think this is isn't great then u can go to hell because this show will always be my life and no one can Say wrong things about it...THIS SHOW IS GREAT AND FANTASTIC!

Even though the show isn't great, the soundtrack is fantastic.

On my own personal view I love all the sound tracks from season 1 to the last season

Every time I watch an episode I always like any song

10 La Femme Nikita

Sean Callery and a lots of high quality bands created absolutely precise mood for the best TV series of all times. It went really good with the great characters of Michael (Roy Dupuis) and Nikita (Peta Wilson).

The Contenders

11 One Tree Hill One Tree Hill is an American television drama series created by Mark Schwahn, which premiered on September 23, 2003, on The WB.

So great! All songs, all the soundtrack *--*

This show should be top one! Aside from the songs that were selected to play, actual artists performed in the show.

Music is the most essential part of this show, and the lyrics always reflect the feels.

Game over! One tree hill shoulder be number 1

12 Scrubs

Scrubs and Smallville are the top to me. Just going by the songs I heard while watching, not listening to the actual soundtracks.

Best soundtrack ever! It has many songs I liked when I was a child.

Every episode ending is memorable from the choice of music to accompany it

13 Sons of Anarchy Sons of Anarchy is an American crime drama television series created by Kurt Sutter that aired from 2008 to 2014.

Great covers of classic badass songs

This is easily top 5 for me, maybe top 2

How isn't this at least in the top 3?

Amazing music, creating emersion and emotion, tryed to itself.

14 Sherlock

One of the best in business, no doubt.

It has an awesome soundtrack. After each episode I have to look at the list of songs played that day.

Deserves to be in top tens. Consists best of songs. A very refreshing album if you ask me.

Suits is one of the best shows ever. But srs? What would Suits be whitout the great soundtracks!?...

BEST MUSIC EVER. Check out the end of S5E15 & 16, then the beginning of S6E1. I mean, seriously...Kaleo is really awesome with Way Down We Go. I can't believe this show isn't in the top 10. Better than most of these on this list, in my humble opinion. It introduces the audience to some great music that they probably have never heard, and suddenly you are searching for the songs on spotify!

Liam bailey-on my mind
Gotye- smoke and mirrors s6e1
Etc etc etc etc good music at good moments
This is to my opinion the best soundtrack leads top ten

21 Cowboy Bebop Cowboy Bebop is a 1998 anime television series animated by Sunrise featuring a production team led by director Shinichirō Watanabe, screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto, character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto, mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane, and composer Yoko Kanno.

Yoko Kanno's OST for Cowboy Bebop mainly consists of wild jazz and smooth blues pieces which set the perfect tone for an amazing show, yet can still be perfectly enjoyed on their own.
Some of the greatest vocal performances ever to be seen in an OST can be found here.

22 Smallville Smallville is an American television series developed by writer-producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on the DC Comics character Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Songs were really great.

Should be much higher up.

23 The O.C.

Killers, death cab, Rooney, spoon, OK Go, and so on. This show is synonymous with the 2000s indie rock movement. Also it gave us “Mmm watcha say” and that’s enough to be top 10.

Definitely one of the most underrated scores out there. John Swihart did an amazing job with it.

35 Peaky Blinders Peaky Blinders is a television crime drama based upon the exploits of the Peaky Blinders gang operating in Birmingham, England during the aftermath of World War I.

I was attempting to write a list of songs, but gave up its too long... There are other shows like Mr Robot that have incredible originals, Peaky Blinders on the other hand is made up of a combination of classics. The majority of Americans haven't watched the series so it's no surprise this is so low. Amazing series: great acting, great visuals and directing, the screenplay is mediocre, but the music is incredible.

The soundtrack for this series is fantastic. Some amazing songs that capture the emotions in the scene. More able artists include The Arctic Monkeys and Royal Blood.

36 Dexter

Shame,that it isn't in top 5

I love this cartoon's soundtrack, even more than Avatar: The Last Airbender. It has driven me to tears plenty of times all by itself.

39 Cold Case

Very evocative and truly in keeping with the theme of the series. Sounds almost ghostly and you can almost feel all the victim spirits crying out for justice. Shame it did not last longer.

40 Vikings Vikings is a historical drama television series written and created by Michael Hirst for the History channel.

One of the best fierce full music.

Amazing use of music here

41 The Wonder Years The Wonder Years is an American television comedy-drama created by Neal Marlens and Carol Black. It ran on ABC from 1988 until 1993. The pilot aired on January 31, 1988, following ABC's coverage of Super Bowl XXII.

Blows everything else on this list away.
Used numerous original hits from major 1960's-1970's artists as background music.
So many hits caused major problems when it came to copyrights before the series could be released on DVD, so it has not been available for almost two decades.
Releasing the DVD's without the original music would be pointless.
FINALLY it looks like the copyrights are being worked out, so we should see the DVD's soon!
Just for starters, the show's theme is JOE COCKER singing a Beatles song.
The fade-out closing song for the first episode is ELTON JOHN.
As MC Hammer might say- YOU CAN'T TOUCH THIS!

42 Thomas & Friends Thomas & Friends is a British children's television series. In the United Kingdom, it had its first broadcast on the ITV network in Great Britain in 1984.

In the classic series, they employed some beautiful synthesiser tunes which mixed the charm of the 80s which it was made in, the earlier 20th century which it was set in and had a somewhat train-like melody itself.

43 N.Y.P.D. Blue
44 Sledge Hammer

another good Danny Elfman
