Top 10 Worst Things that Have Happened in 2025
And now that 2025 is here, it's time to talk about the new worst things that have happened this year.
As of this list's creation, we are nine days into the year. While I'm sure more items will arise as time goes on, the world has no shortage of awful events and other "worst" things that can occur.
I am aware of a list already made called Top 10 Biggest Events of 2025 two days ago. However, that list includes a couple of positive items. This list, in contrast, focuses only on the worst and the negatives.
Another list could definitely be made about the best things in 2025 if enough positive events occur. But for now, let's get started here.
-
Russia-Ukraine War Continues
Another item on the previous list, and it should be quite obvious how dire it is. Russia is a big nuclear power that wants to take Ukraine. There's evil everywhere going on.
Russia is bad enough, but let's not also forget that a whole lot of money is being given to Ukraine, and it gets to a point where we don't really know if or how the money will help the Ukrainians here. It's a totally uphill battle, and I feel like Western nations may blunder into this war and get themselves under the missiles of Russia.
With the U.S. voting against condemning Russia for the war in Ukraine alongside Russia and North Korea, the U.S. is now officially on the axis of evil.
-
Israel-Hamas War Continues
Let's start with an item that was already on the previous list, as well as one before it. Israel is still in the war against Hamas, and the sad part is a whole lot of other nations in the Middle East have been dragged into the conflict, like Syria and Iran.
I do believe Israel is biting off way more than they can chew, and I see them as more of an aggressor now. Yeah, they are retaliating a lot, but things can only go too far in this whole conflict.
Countless casualties across the Middle East.
Israel just broke the ceasefire. They're now continuing their war crimes in Gaza and killing more countless civilians. Not only that, they've also been making advances on the West Bank and have been trying to annex part of Syria.
Further proof of how evil Israel truly is. Yet people on here will try and continue to insist the Israeli government aren't a bunch of genocidal maniacs and excuse these actions.

Pacific Palisades and Los Angeles Wildfires
As of this writing, this is the biggest current, not recurring, event in 2025 so far. But man, all those brushfires, with annoying wind and dry air, resulted in lots of places around Southern California burning down.
The government is being heavily criticized over how its fire department had fired competent workers, and their replacements aren't doing good. Worse yet, there's no water in the fire hydrants to fight the fires.
The fires have spread throughout a lot of Los Angeles as of now. Some deaths have been reported. I counted five last time, but there's likely more.
UPDATE: The death toll has risen to 11. Another thing making this worse is the fact that there are looters plaguing areas affected by wildfires.
-
Shigatse Earthquake
A small location in Tibet near the Nepal border experienced a 7.1 magnitude earthquake.
Many people were trapped, and at least 126 were confirmed dead.
-
European Migrant Crisis Continues
This seems like a holdover from the previous list, but I actually don't remember if I added it or if it was ever there. However, the migrant crisis in European nations can be just as bad as the ones in the US. Germany, France, Spain, and the UK are the main hotbeds of migrants coming over, mainly Muslim, and it resulted in a ton of politics, protests, and pushback from normal citizens over there on many different things.
The worst has to be in the UK, where the newly elected Prime Minister Keir Starmer seems to be making a huge name for himself. Is he compromised that much to not have law enforcement go after migrants who commit crimes in the UK, but would rather have regular British citizens arrested over mere social media posts? And to have Parliament say no to an investigation on possible grooming gangs?
If there are people on social media around the world comparing the UK to North Korea and they have evidence like this, they may be on to something. European nations should find something that will work for their citizens before any bloody revolution were to occur.
-
U.S. Border Crisis Continues
Another holdover from the previous list. Honestly, there is zero reason to let this go due to many different and actually preventable incidents that involve deaths or rape from illegals crossing the United States border, and how many illegal border crossings happened.
As a reminder, this Top 3 consisted of previously listed items that have been ongoing crises and wars and have resulted in a lot of bad.
-
Earthquake in Myanmar
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit Myanmar and Thailand, killing 5,456 people.
It was Thailand's deadliest earthquake since 1930. This should really be number one.
-
New Orleans Truck Attack
A terror attack marked the start of 2025's midnight hour in New Orleans. Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove through Bourbon Street into a crowd and then engaged with police by shooting at them.
He had an Islamic State flag in his truck and had pledged allegiance to IS in a video recorded before the attack. Fifteen people died, and the Sugar Bowl was postponed.

"Cover Up" of the Epstein Files
The Epstein files proved to be one of the 2020s' biggest sensations. Everyone knows pedophilia is bad, and everyone eventually knows that Epstein himself was a bad man, but this cover-up is getting crazier by the minute.
And I could've sworn that Trump said, at least at one point, that he was gonna declassify everything if elected and reveal it all. Now it's like none of this is happening, and everyone from Republicans to Democrats all over social media wants full transparency. Even those who were alleged to be involved on Epstein Island want this stuff released, like Kevin Spacey.
Release the Epstein List they said, cover it up they do.
-
U.S. Bombing of Iran
This is precisely why I feared the worst when Trump became president again. If anyone could get us closer to World War III, it's the U.S. I don't know if we will make it to 2026. The world is going to hell. ~ DanceTheNight
The U.S. is, surprise, surprise, dragging itself into yet another unnecessary war! This world is really going downhill.

Death of David Rosen
2025 is over, but this death happened on Christmas. David Rosen co-founded Sega, rather interesting considering it's a Japanese company.

Minnesota Daycare Fraud Uncovered
Nick Shirley is just a young YouTuber who happened upon something that a Minnesota resident told him about. It has to do with fraud being in the state, and also specifically the Twin Cities. Together they journeyed around "daycare" centers, and I'm putting the quotes because, as it turns out, none of these daycare centers seem to have any kids enrolled currently.
The owners of the daycare are also not cooperating or answering questions as to what is going on. So it seems evident that it's a fraud scheme because these buildings are supposed to be daycares and there is money allotted to them, yet they aren't being used at all.
The story is even more insane because of the fact that the only one who really covered this is Nick Shirley. No major news outlet is covering this. Nick's investigation into this whole thing has garnered over 80 million views on YouTube now, and it's ridiculous that tax dollars were spent on... essentially empty buildings with nothing much to them.
Even Nick himself asks if he can send his child to these daycares, and they don't answer truthfully to those questions. This fraud scheme will likely be something that could take down the current state government if worse comes to worst.

Cetinje Shootings
Aco Martinovic apparently got into a bar fight, left, got his gun, went back to the bar, and shot people. Then he went to another location to do the same thing, then two more other locations. Thirteen died before the shooter offed himself.
This was definitely a mass shooting, and the fact it happened as a result of a bar fight proves how psychotic those can make people. Cetinje had a mass shooting three years before this too.

2025 United States Federal Government Shutdown
As of the start of November, this is 32 days and counting for the government (specifically the legislative branch) shutting things down. As far as I'm concerned, the whole thing is partisan. Democrats do not want to work with Republicans, and we've got people like air traffic controllers and federal workers who are unable to get paid as a result of this.
Hoping my own mother comes home safe from her overseas vacation. I swear this shutdown might delay her flight back home.
As a person who is low-income, I can say that this shutdown is truly devastating to the US, since my SNAP benefits have been put on pause, along with those of millions of others who also had their SNAP benefits put on pause this November. Let's hope this shutdown comes to an end already. It's just awful to live in the US right now.

Jalalabad Earthquake
A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Jalalabad in Eastern Afghanistan on August 31, killing at least 3,000 people and injuring over 4,000. It is Afghanistan's deadliest earthquake since 1998.
-
Australia Gets Hit by Cyclones
It's that time of year again. Australia has already been hit by a cyclone in North Queensland, which has caused at least one death (correct me if I'm wrong), and now another one is heading toward Western Australia.
While it's nice to have some rain during this intense summer, this is a bit too much.

Philadelphia Learjet Crash

Cyclades Islands Earthquake

Potomac River Mid-Air Collision
This week had so many plane crashes in America. It was terrible. 2025 has been the worst year for the country in this decade.

Annunciation Catholic Church Shooting
A mass shooting took place at the Annunciation Catholic Church, killing two children and injuring 21 others.
The suspect was identified as Robin Westman, who later killed himself. Even with today's gun laws, schools and churches continue to be targeted both in and outside the U.S. The victims were an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old.
-
June 2025 Los Angeles Protests
L.A. can't catch a break this year.
California in general is basically the Florida of the 21st century, especially in recent years.
The ICE protests turned into a riot.
President Trump could have made a good difference before this happened.
-
Portugal Wildfires
It burned 530,000 hectares, killed 2 people, and injured 5 others.
-
H5N1 Bird Flu Spreads
This could be as bad as COVID, depending on how severe it becomes, how far it spreads, and how world governments respond.
We could be looking at another global pandemic. At least one confirmed human death has already been reported. We'll see what happens.
With RFK Jr. now in charge of the health departments, if this spreads, it could result in many deaths that could have easily been prevented.
Make no mistake, bird flu is dangerous and has a higher mortality rate than COVID.
-
Trump Slaps Tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China
Somehow this didn't kill the economy yet. We'll see how bad this really gets.
Absolutely pathetic.
