Top 10 Worst Years of the 2010s

The Top Ten
2017 Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico in September, causing widespread devastation and a humanitarian crisis, with nearly 3,000 deaths attributed to the storm. In October, a mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival resulted in 58 deaths and over 850 injuries, becoming the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. North Korea escalated tensions by conducting multiple missile tests, including one of an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.

2017! It sucks. I really hate this goddamn piece of crap space. I don't even consider this to be a year. It's a nightmare! It is the worst year in the world: my personal life, movies, TV shows, movie studios, video games, music, and everything. There is absolutely nothing good to say about this year.

Where do I begin?

I switched buses, my pug died, Texas Church shooting, Hurricane Irma, Donald Trump being president, my sister sprained her knee, my cat had surgery, my family members hit and fought, and Paramount Pictures has gone downhill BIG TIME. There were lots of celebrity deaths, mass shootings everywhere, terrorist attacks, lots of TV shows getting canceled, mediocre remakes and sequels, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi! (That movie SUCKED BIG TIME!)

I'm glad 2017 is OVER! Paramount has been making so many box office flops and underperforming biggies in 2017 as well.

2018 seems to be a little better. We'll see.

2016 The United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in the Brexit referendum held in June, sparking political and economic uncertainty across Europe. In July, a terrorist attack in Nice, France, during Bastille Day celebrations killed 86 people when a truck plowed through the crowd. The Zika virus outbreak spread through the Americas, raising global health concerns, particularly regarding its impact on pregnancies.

My absolute least favorite year of the 2010s decade. This year was absolutely NOT an easy one.

I don't really know where to start. Let's see, politics everywhere you go, ISIS at its peak, deaths of notable people, and not to mention the cringe meme culture.

I know stuff like this happens occasionally every year, but it peaked in 2016. I know a lot of people who had PTSD from thinking about this year. For me personally, it was definitely not memorable or easy. 2017 was miles, I mean MILES, better. Not sure why it's now placed as #1...

2018 A series of wildfires ravaged California in November, including the Camp Fire, which became the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state's history, claiming at least 85 lives. In March, a nerve agent attack in Salisbury, England, targeted former Russian spy Sergei Skripal, leading to a major diplomatic crisis between Russia and Western nations. Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist, was killed in October inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, sparking an international outcry over Saudi Arabia's involvement.

2018 was a piece of garbage. It was AWFUL!

1. Fortnite took over the world and the video game industry, and it was getting annoying for everyone.
2. The WORST YouTube Rewind EVER created was uploaded. Everyone disliked the video because everyone knew 2018 was a bad year at first, and all that was in the video was mostly Fortnite.
3. School shootings got more common.
4. My Grandma AND one of my uncles died.
5. Horrible music (especially the rap division).
6. Stupid challenges like the Tide Pod Challenge.

I'm glad it's over, though!

2015 A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal in April, killing nearly 9,000 people and causing widespread destruction, including damage to UNESCO World Heritage sites. In November, coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris, France, killed 130 people and injured hundreds more, targeting restaurants, a concert hall, and a stadium. The European migrant crisis intensified as over one million refugees and migrants crossed into Europe, many fleeing war and persecution in the Middle East and North Africa.

Yes, this year was overrated, embarrassing, and awful all around. Pretty much anyone with common sense understands that this was the most forgettable year ever because nothing good or interesting happened. It is also the worst year for business, as shown on the list on this site of the same name. I can definitely see people in 2-3 years looking back on this year and feeling like nothing happened.

Holy hell, I forgot this year even existed. It was beyond boring and unmemorable. No one ever thinks of this era when they think of the 2010s decade, and it's for good reason too.

2013 In April, the Boston Marathon bombing killed three people and injured more than 260 others after two homemade bombs were detonated near the finish line. Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines in November, becoming one of the most powerful tropical cyclones ever recorded and killing over 6,000 people. Egypt experienced significant political upheaval when President Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the military following mass protests against his government.

2013 was literally the worst year of my life, EVER! It was downright horrendous (yes, worse than 2016).

2014 The Ebola outbreak in West Africa became the largest in history, with over 11,000 deaths primarily in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Russia annexed Crimea in March, sparking international condemnation and leading to ongoing tensions with Ukraine and Western nations. In August, the rise of ISIS escalated in Iraq and Syria, with the group declaring a caliphate and seizing significant territory.

Honestly, 2014 had the best music of the decade, but it is the worst year when it comes to wars in this decade. People have forgotten all about ISIL and the Iraqi civil war in 2014, and it pisses me off. And Ebola is nothing to remember anymore because "everybody in 2014 was having a GOOD TIMEā„¢, especially the people dying in the Middle East." (I was being sarcastic, by the way.)

Personally, it was and still is the second worst year in my life, right below 2017. I had a bunch of wannabe gangsters who made me want to kill myself. They kept on saying a racial slur every time without knowing what it means, and it's very offensive to black people. (I'm talking about the N-word.) Most of my classmates in sixth grade were very rude people.

Therefore, I think 2014 should be higher on the list, as high as 2013 is.

2019 Mass protests in Hong Kong against a proposed extradition bill erupted in June and continued throughout the year, growing into a wider pro-democracy movement. In March, two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, were attacked by a gunman, resulting in 51 deaths and sparking global discussions on Islamophobia and gun control. The Amazon rainforest experienced record-breaking fires, raising concerns about deforestation and its impact on climate change.

This year, 2019, marks the close of a decade called the 2010s. This decade will go down in history as one full of anguish, hatred, disgrace, adversity, injustice, shock, depression, and immorality. Maybe in the next decade, the 2020s, things will change, and people will do good things to make the world a better place. Even though we make mistakes, will there still be good morals like in the good old days? Think about it.

2019 was boring and terrible. The reason nobody is nostalgic for 2019 as of 2022 is that it was not memorable whatsoever. It's basically just a year that happened. I mean, what is there to even be nostalgic about? Area 51? VSCO girls? I don't think so.

I remember back in 2015, everyone was nostalgic about 2012 despite it being only three years apart. We are three years away from 2019 now, and it basically feels the same. Nothing good has really changed these last few years, I guess.

2012 In December, a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, left 26 people dead, including 20 children, reigniting debates over gun control in the U.S. Superstorm Sandy, which struck the eastern United States in October, caused widespread damage and claimed over 230 lives across several countries. In July, a mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado, during a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" killed 12 people and injured 70 others.

2012 should be ranked #1 on this list because of all the tragic things that happened in 2012. The Costa Concordia sank. Twenty kids were killed in a mass school shooting in Connecticut. People committed suicide because of the end-of-the-world predictions. Many people feared the end of the world in 2012. There was a mass shooting at a movie theater in Colorado. All of these tragic moments affected the whole year of 2012, therefore making it the worst year ever.

I cannot believe that such a tragic year was ranked #1 on the list of the best years in the 2010s. 2012 is the worst and most overrated year ever. I do not get why people love 2012 after all of these tragic things happened. If you look up the most tragic moments of 2012 and the Costa Concordia sinking, you will see why 2012 was the worst year ever.

2010 A massive earthquake struck Haiti in January, killing an estimated 230,000 people and causing widespread devastation in the capital, Port-au-Prince. The Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in April, leading to the largest marine oil spill in history, releasing millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Floods in Pakistan during July and August affected over 20 million people, with widespread displacement and significant loss of life and infrastructure.

We were still recovering from the Great Recession.

Justin Bieber's "Baby" was released that year.

Why isn't this at #1? The economy was so poor!

2011 In March, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan, causing over 15,000 deaths and triggering a nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. The Arab Spring uprisings led to the fall of several governments in the Middle East, including the toppling of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi after months of civil conflict. In May, U.S. forces killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a raid in Pakistan, marking a major milestone in the fight against global terrorism.
