Top 10 Best Female Metal Singers

The best ever and forever.Unique and non repeating, always interesting, bright, virtuoso vocals, always accurate stage image, multifaceted and diverse.
Floor Jansen has the best technique and the most versatility out of any female metal vocalist. This woman exudes metal. She is not only the best female vocalist in the genre, but one of the best voices in metal as well.
Since After Forever disbanded, she's been working with her project "Revamp". Both bands are worth checking out alone for Floor's voice. At the time of writing there is also a very high possibility that she will become the third lead singer for Nightwish, and I very much hope that this happens. She deserves to be recognized by a wider audience because she is so fantastic at what she does.
There are so many talented vocalists out there, and it's really impossible to say that one is the "greatest of all time". But if there can actually be one such individual, I would pick Floor. Of course others are amazing, such as Tarja, Simone, and Britney Hayes, but if I had to pick one, it would be Floor. She's too talented, versatile, and powerful. Plus, even though she's always bold and powerful in her singing, she's always feminine and exudes a gentle softness, which is a great counter-balance to the more rough and aggressive male approach to the music and performance. And her on-stage charm and personality are wonderful. She's a complete package. Nightwish hit the jackpot with her.
As an 'old school' Nightwish fan (been listening since 2004), I definitely prefer Tarja, but Floor Jansen is nonetheless AWESOME! She has lungs of steel! Not to mention, the simple fact that she is breathtakingly just beautiful! I admire her and wish her the best. This is actually the first time I have ever said anything about her, but there it is straight up about her if you ask me. Furthermore, I believe that Everdream with her singing is truly a masterpiece of both singing and musicianship the likes of which is seldom seen or heard! Good luck Floor and good fortune!

Tarja has a beautiful voice, both strong and full of emotion. Albums like Oceanborn and Wishmaster show her ability best. I don't like her simply because she's a soprano, there are many out there in metal. She has indeed a unique voice, the one who introduced me in this kind of music. Nightwish and Tuamas's music were undoubtedly the most complimentary to her voice. I like her solo career, but it cannot be compared to the greatness that Nightwish is. To those that claim that operatic voices have no emotion, listen to "Two for Tragedy" and "Dead Boy's Poem".
A voice of a wonderful angelic but at the same time dark timbre, insane power and depth. A voice that blends well with the metal genre. Also, her operatic technique is of a very respectful level. Finally, she's the pioneer of symphonic metal vocals.
The whole thing with Tarja/Floor nowadays is really simple actually
Tarja sings opera
Floor sings metal
How can one even compare them?
But for what Tarja did to the entire metal industry being the first to really bring phenomenal, unique and gorgerous opera voice never used before and which no one can best or ever get close to it, she should absolutely be proclaimed the one and only queen of metal. Her level of perfection in singing OPERA in metal is still ureachable up to that day.
Don't get me wrong Floor is an insanely powerful and wonderful singer. But her style of singing is far more common, although she is the best in her own right anyway.
And yeah, compared to those two, Simone Simons is extremely inferior. Sad but true.
Her albums are so wonderful and inspiring... Nightwish had the greatest time with Tarja and you can see that, that energy and love they created between each other... Especially on "From Wishes To Eternity". The best singer ever! I am so glad I've seen her live. So beautiful and passionate! I have to mention "Oasis" as maybe her most passionate song...

Best growling - Otep Shamaya (Otep)
Best opera metal - Lory Lewis (Therion)
Best new age metal - Amy Lee (Evanescence)
The most melodic and touching voice ever, who can sing whatever you want, even without any singing classes - SHARON DEN ADEL!
She is very underrated singer only because she doesn't pay a journalists to call her "a Goddess", like some other singers do (like Tarja Turunen, whose husband pays every interview and headlines with such a ridiculous title, to make you feel like that there is nobody else who sings even better!) I just hope that the voting is going to be fair once for all, and that the REALLY THE BEST is going to win!
Some days ago, I was on their concert for the first time (traveled to Romania). It was amazing. Long setlist. Her voice is still very touching and unique. I am in love with her blue dress face-painted self from Mother Earth tour. So much emotions. I really like the old stuff of the band, but man, I love to hear everything she sings live... And that concert was a dream come true. And now 15 days after this Nightwish comes to us in Bulgaria for the first time with Floor Jansen. What a month.
She is the most effective among female metal singers. Her voice and style matches with the band, she can be soft or hard when the music needs. And, of course, she is very beautiful!
Sharon's voice just grabs your attention. She sounds fantastic singing acoustically. Define the most versatile singer on this list. She is also the most beautiful.

Not only one of the hottest, but also one of the greatest voices in female-fronted bands, or any genre of female singing for that matter. Listen to 'Tides of Time', it's a beautiful ballad which brings out the best in Simone's vocals.
She writes awesome songs, her voice and stage presence are amazing and her headbanging is on point. Also, the band is obviously having a great time together when they perform. They all love what they're doing. They've never done a bad album.
She is not as powerful as Floor vocally, but the emotion, beauty and technical ability in her voice is astounding. Definitely the best.
Her range soars octaves above Tarja's. Her voice is also very versatile, stretching from operatic to lower, dark pitches.

She's literally been on stage since she was in diapers, and has shown at a young age incredible command of the audience that artists almost thrice her age have been known to achieve. Her voice has matured especially now that she turned 20, and will only continue to improve here on out. Not saying she's better than the others here but she definitely deserves a higher spot on this list.
Most vocalists stay within their comfort zone but Su-Metal can sing just about any type of song thrown at her and sing it remarkably well. Add to that her dancing and stage presence and she is definitely one of the top few vocalists in the business.
She is not called the Queen for nothing. This young woman commands a stage and an audience like few others - even decades older. And is still only just 22.
She is the youngest on this list at just 16, But she's also the best. This young lady from Japan has the pure beautiful voice of an angel. An angel of Death.

Total badass. Her growls are brutal and her cleans are excellent. She writes really good songs, too. Alissa was great with The Agonist but horribly underused in Arch Enemy. Why get someone with a voice like that if all you want is half of what she can do?
She has amazing voice and great stage presence... She makes the music video beautiful and some of her choices in way of living on her own terms and not giving a damn to the world is perfect... She complements rest of the band (Arch Enemy) in all aspects
Alissa should be ranked third from my point of view.
Best female metal singer in the history of ever!

When a singer delivers you a full load of emotions in a quantity more than you can handle, when a singer steps on the lines of the songwriting and launch previous worldwide successful songs in new indescribably heights, when a singer makes you cry when you listen to songs that are not supposed to be soft and sensitive ballads but powerful metal creations, when the fans totally break down just with just a move of the eyes or a tiny facial expression of the singer or get lost with a small dance on the stage then you know that this is the best singer in the world for you!
Oh, I love her so much. Recently found out she can growl! Already knew she qualified as a sonic weapon with that powerful voice, but add in song writing and growling, apparently her impressiveness knows no bounds.
Not many singers like her in the world are like her. You can tell her voice from other women in a heart beat.
Beautiful. Angelic voice. Lovely. Normal person, not diva. Good lyricist.
It's no big secret that I consider Tarja to be the best, both in Nightwish and in her solo work. However, I recently started listening to Anette, and I now understand how her other fans feel about her. "Seven Days to the Wolves" is, in my opinion, the best song I've heard her sing and perform. The studio version of her singing it is so totally awesome that I can't even listen to it without breaking down into tears each time and every time I hear it! I'm sorry, but it's just way too intense! Furthermore, it breaks my heart to hear that she was kicked out of Nightwish. Throughout her time with the band, as I have commented before elsewhere, she gave it her all to do the best she could with her singing and performing! As I always say, at least she was trying! What really hurts is the fact that she was also pregnant at the time and at one point, ill with the flu (I think it was stomach flu). I could go on forever about this, but I believe I've said enough about it. I still ...more
Some say Nightwish made Anette Olzon famous, but the only reason many people in the US and the world know Nightwish is because of the voice of Anette! The albums by Jani and Anette in The Dark Element are some of the best in the last few years!
I love Anette because she is a great singer and a down-to-earth person. We don't need other divas like Turunen, and Imaginaerum is a perfect album. She's the perfect singer for Nightwish, and I can't wait to hear what she'll be able to do in the future
I love both Tarja and Anette for Nightwish. I'm voting for Anette because she is potentially more moving than Tarja.

"I've been listening to Tristania now since 2007. While I am these days mostly a fan of Xandria and Nightwish (just recently totally impressed by Draconian, though). I feel it is time for me to say what I think and feel about Vibeke, though. She is AWESOME! Sanguine Sky and World of Glass are by far my two favorite songs featuring her singing in them. There is truly something about her, in her voice that I don't quite fully understand, but...I mean, she is in all honesty magickal, in some way or another. I wish you the best of luck and fortune in you and this astoundingly unique band! Thanks! "
I have many years hearing metal, bands go in and bands go out. Many femme singers, beautiful voices but no one as Vibeke... powerful as soprano, melancholic expression and her voice print a very special color in each song of Tristania... Why you leave us Vibeke? No one like you, bless you for your emotional legacy!
She has the most unique, touching voice in the world. I can cry because f her singing, there is no other singer who do the same with me. Shame that not so many people love her
She has an incredible voice, angelic and hypnotic, full of emotions. Besides, she has a unnbeatable singing technique.
She is one of the few women of metal genre that has a voice that sounds just as beautiful in studio and live.
Should be number 1 in my opinion, the most beautiful angelic voice I have ever heard, a shame she left Draconian, but she'll always be my number 1.
Very dramatic, angelic and versatile voice. She should actually be part of the top list.
A fistful of emotions in a pristine and melancholic voice...
She's BACK! and their emotions too... just hear the Sovran and Under a Godless Veil songs live it's just beautiful...
The Newcomers

Heidi really does have a beautiful voice. I really like sopranos, but here, especially. I don't think anyone really compares.
She is my favorite with Simone. But she's mezzo, not soprano.
Hands down better than Tarja.
An angelic operatic voice, for me the best full soprano singer in metal/rock scene nowadays
Amy Lee is in the category of her own... she doesn't have operatic voice (Tarja is the best in that area), she is not and has never been a metal symphonic but goth rock artist... saying artist for a reason, b/c unlike many women here who only sing, she creates magical melodies, her lyrics are pure poetry, unlike some fairy tale crap, and her voice is so full of emotions that no other performer can convey to an audience. So stop putting Amy Lee in any lists, she is ONE OF A KIND!
Her voice is great. But she doesn't sing metal. Learn this already.
Incredible vocalist,
Amy is one of the only remaining singers who can actually sing!
Amazing voice... listen to Lithium

Doro has a quality to her voice that is really second to none.. Not the sort of over the top "operatic" quality that a number of female metal singers have, but a power and intensity to her clear voice that few can match. One of the pioneers, and still unrivaled.
Saw her in concert for the first time this year and she gave so much energy. You can tell she loves what she does. Doro is the best.
She's The Queen of Metal and should be number 1! She's the only one on this list that is actually Metal!
Doro has been a true metalhead for more than 30 years! She is a great singer, always gives 120 percent and shows her love to the fans.

Leaves Eyes is a truly awesome band! Hell to the Heavens is one of the most awesome things I have ever seen! Those men have NO RIGHT to persecute her! I am a practicing witch and I personally find this offensive! Many women were ruthlessly killed in the middle ages for no good reason at all! I love you Liv Kristine!
Her voice is operatic, melodic and perfect for symphonic, Gothic, doom metal! Nice voice and very beautiful!
Definitely deserves a spot in the top 3.
The warmest sweetest voice.
I have never in my life seen a live performance as that of Anneke, and I never will. If possible I think the notes were more on key than on the record. Fantastic presence and amazing control. There is no one like her, no matter what you say.
She moved me to tears up on that stage.
Best female singer ever. There is incredible resonance, pitch, tone and power in her voice. Her singing on "Travel" can makes crying everyone.
The goddess of music. There's a lot of fantastic vocalists on this list, but Anneke is head and shoulders above all of them.
Anneke is Number 1 no matter what she is the one who started and the rest followed...
The hardest part of describing her vocal skills is reassembling one's mind after her incredible transitions. Add undeniable style and the depth of intelligence to her writing and she is one of the greatest metal vocalists ever. In fact, Tatiana puts the very existence of gendered lists like this one in question. In a male-dominated genre, it's so easy to resort to looks when considering the women. Tati is so good a musician that while taking in a Jinjer set you honestly forget you think she may be the hottest being to walk the Earth since Aphrodite left the clam shell.
I mean, Tarja, Simone and Floor are all great, but Tatiana has a very unique clean singing voice and her extreme vocals are unbeliveabley heavy and brutal. In my opinion one of the best metal vocalist period.
In my opinion Tatiana should have the number 1 spot for her range and voice clarity.Live she is the best front woman ever her interactions with the crowd creates a spectacular concert experience!
! How the f... is this possible. She is the next Generation of Female Metal Vocal. This woman is absolutly insane. In 2019, she has to be in top ten. No doubt...

Her growling was brutal. She was one of the best, too bad she retired. Though the new Amaranthe song she guested on shows she hasn't lost it.
Why is she so low? I mean #15 is too low for her.
Angela is best m/

She's an amazing singer, she has a special voice. When I heard her for first, I was amazed. Two words: Angelic voice.
Because she's a lovely green-eyed brunette who has a great body that I'd like to spend an hour with. Oh, she can sing?
Her pure powerful voice mixed with the roughness of the rest of the band touches my soul.
Best voice ever, powerful and high at the same time... She is THE Metal Queen! Amazing girl.

Probably the most beautiful voice, not only in metal, but just in general. She has excellent voice control and a super clear voice. I'm afraid that the only reason she isn't ranked much higher is because her band, Amaranthe, isn't as famous as Nighwish, Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, etc. Although I still do love those other singers, too.
She is young and not well known, but once you have heard her singing you will never forget it. Elize has very beautiful voice, she sounds like an angel but at the same time she can deliver very strong vocal performance.
By far one of the best female singers out there! Powerful and heavenly voice that just make you love the music even more!
I think my favourite part of her voice is how crystal clear it is.

Maria Brink is a fantastic vocalist, amazing live, brings a lot of energy to In This Moment's stage presence, and really gets the crowd going. Seeing her at Mayhem Fest in 2010 was possibly one of the best experiences I had throughout my teen years. She is a fantastic addition to the world of metal, and I expect In This Moment to be a name we will continue to see for many years to come.
I first heard Maria at Ozzfest and was completely blown away. In This Moment and Maria Brink should have been on the main stage instead of the second. They were better than any band that played on that second stage and better than Lordi which made the main stage. Complete travesty of Metal.
I love this singer! ! the first time I heard her voice I was like...sounds like early No Doubt but a lot more fn powerful! :) Then I saw her video big bad wolf and I was instantly a fan! I'm going to buy all her Cd's.
She deserves a better place.
Here range between a beautiful Amy Lee tone as shown in "Break In" to her sexy raspy voice as shown in "Mz. Hyde" makes her in my opinion the best female rock/metal vocalists. And her stunning good looks just puts the sugar on top!
I really love lzzy, her voice its awesome, shes have the pasion and the power that music needs.
Akane Liv is an absolutely incredible soprano vocalist, who is also very versatile and isn't just constrained to the operatic side. She is a very passionate singer with excellent control and tone, I'd easily put her up there with the greats of Symphonic Metal like Tarja or Floor

A magnific voice, powerful and melancholic it's a shame that she had not a band to sing to the world, one of the most underrated voices in the metal scene!
The metal fan that never have a creep in their spine when Amanda sings... it's not a true metalhead...
