Top 10 Best Christian Thrash Metal Bands

The Christian thrash is one of the most famous genres in Christian metal.
The Top Ten
1 Tourniquet

Amazing band, and seeing them live was incredible. The quality of their work is amazing, and it's a shame it's not more well-known in secular circles because it's really high-quality music.

Tourniquet is the best!
Greetings from Ukraine.

Their first three albums put them on the map!

2 Deliverance

Sorry, but this band has always had the edge. I'm not going to compare them to other Christian bands, but if you listen to Deliverance, you get such a feeling of satisfaction that no other thrash band will ever give.

They outshine any non-Christian thrash bands with their songwriting and musicianship. Yes, bands like Slayer and Metallica are great, awesome bands, but they don't have that edge like Deliverance has, because of one main ingredient, and that is God.

Their debut album (like VR's) is a legend in Christian metal. Just hear some songs, and you will understand what I'm talking about.

3 Living Sacrifice Living Sacrifice is an American Christian metal band formed in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1989. Over the years, their music has evolved to encompass various styles, including thrash metal, death metal, and metalcore. They are considered pioneers in the Christian metal genre, known for their unflinching... read more

Their first two albums were thrash, and several others have thrash elements. Their last few albums have been a weird blend of groove, thrash, and death metal. So they qualify, I think.

Living Sacrifice is one of the most influential Christian Thrash bands out there. Their first album is definitely deeply rooted in Slayer influences, and that is what makes it the best.

They may have only been thrash for their debut release, but they immediately got comparisons to Slayer. Not bad for just starting out.

4 Believer

One of the few Christian thrash bands that non-Christian thrashers would rate. Lyrically uncompromising in their faith and musically adept, they were not afraid to push the boat out.

They could hardly be branded the Christian equivalent of... (name whatever secular band). Too many Christian bands are second-rate imitations, but you certainly can't say this of Believer.

I thought Ultimatum would have warranted a top ten slot, even though they sound uncannily like Overkill.

Listening to "Gone" was one of the best Christian songs I have ever heard in my life so far. They were great back in the '90s before I was born. They should be number 1 on the list.

1 - Believer
2 - Vengeance Rising
3 - Deliverance
4 - As I Lay Dying
5 - Tourniquet (Would be 3, but "Swarming Spirits" was a terrible song)

5 Vengeance Rising Vengeance Rising was an American Christian thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. Fronted by vocalist Roger Martinez, they originally formed as Vengeance in 1987, but changed their name in 1989 to avoid conflict with another band from the Netherlands.

Not only were they a Christian Thrash Metal act, but they were doing things NO ONE ELSE was doing at the time in the Thrash Metal scene! They're a band, no matter if you're Christian or not, that you should definitely give a listen to.

Great band, and just so you all know... the rest of the band are still Christians and played with Scott Waters of Ultimatum in a reunion band called "Once Dead." The only one who isn't Christian anymore is Roger Martinez, and none of the members are Satanists... geez.

6 Eternal Decision

I absolutely love this band. They sure get the message across. I'm so thankful for bands like this.

Music is the main thing that converted me, and these guys made a big impact. I was an atheist for about five years, and a lot of things happened in my life to make me change my ways. If it wasn't for Christian music in a genre that I listen to every day, I feel that I would still be lost.

Great band, very underrated. Of course, they're not as good as Tourniquet or something, but they are still a great band. I think they are a lot too similar to Metallica though. They need to be more original.

7 Seventh Angel

Seventh Angel has a great sound to them, but I need to find a good place to buy their albums because I want to hear more. As a Christian, they sound almost as good as Metallica. Probably the best Christian Thrash band I have heard.

Whoever said they have explicit albums must have them confused with someone else. I know them, and their music is pure. Great band and they deserve to be higher on this list.

I don't know who has said they have explicit albums - definitely not. I know these guys, and all their music is pure. They should be at number 1 on here.

8 As I Lay Dying As I Lay Dying is an American metalcore band from San Diego, California. Founded in 2000 by vocalist Tim Lambesis, the establishment of the band's first full lineup, which included drummer Jordan Mancino, occurred in 2001. As I Lay Dying has released six albums, one split album, and two compilation... read more

This is one of the best bands that I like. Their music is awesome.

Their music is awesome. And none of us is sinless, so we should stop making a fuss about Tom.

Great band! They have their own style.

9 Mortification Mortification is an Australian Christian extreme metal band which was formed in 1987 as a heavy metal group, Lightforce, by mainstay Steve Rowe on bass guitar and vocals.

Let me tell you a story.

My brother and I started off on Christian rock like everyone else, following Petra through the early '80s. Then Stryper came out, and we were huge fans. Then Whitecross, Bloodgood, and Bride (Bride was awesome; Live to Die was an insane album). But still, we thirsted for something more aggressive.

In 1987, Vengeance released Human Sacrifice. We went to the local Bible store looking for new releases and saw the album cover with the nailed hand on the cross. We took it home, and it blew our tiny sheltered brains right off. Soon, we were listening to The Crucified (who we saw multiple times while living in Fresno), Deliverance, Tourniquet, Betrayal, Living Sacrifice, Seventh Angel, Detritus, and probably more that I'm forgetting.

But eventually, Mortification hit the scene, and in my world, it was the final word. Scrolls of the Megilloth was so heavy, so intense, so totally metal that I felt my thirst for metal had been quenched. At that point, I started discovering non-metal music because I was interested in girls, and they weren't listening to metal.

10 Ultimatum

Into the Pit is the best Christian metal album ever. And I don't care who you are, Mortal Stomp is one of those songs everyone should know.

I think they fit in well in the Christian thrash/metal area.

The Contenders
11 Oil

OIL should by far be rated number one on the Christian metal list, simply because they broke all the rules of Christian metal. They never had any financial backing from their label and still sold over a million records overseas.

Also, listen to the production on their first major release Refine - it is world-class. The production is as solid as a Pantera album. Then listen to the production of the majority of the bands listed above OIL. Their productions are horrible. OIL took Christian metal to a higher level.

And yes, the band had Ron from Dark Angel, but did you know that guitarist Blake Nelson used to play with David Lombardo of Slayer? That is what influenced David to pursue metal.

12 Bloodgood

13th place is not enough for Bloodgood. They have made many good albums. Position 4 or 5 would be more fitting.

They are a great hard rock band, and they have experimented with thrash!

13 Repent

A true-to-the-word band that always had a strong message.

14 Detritus

British Thrash. Reasonable debut, but fantastic second album (If But For One)! Check them out.

15 Bride
16 Extol Extol are a progressive extreme Christian metal band from Bekkestua, Norway that was formed in 1993. The band is known for playing a variety of different styles of metal which include progressive metal, death metal, black metal and thrash metal.

An extreme Christian metal band from Oslo, Norway. They are classified as thrash, death, and progressive metal. They sing with growled/screamed vocals and have the virtuoso-epic tendencies of those genres, along with the heaviness of thrash.

Undeceived is one of the heaviest pieces of Christian metal ever recorded, and "Ember" is the perfect slice of thrash from their 2000 Undeceived album.

They should be higher on the list. AILD, Demon Hunter, and Theocracy are nowhere near thrash metal.

17 FreaKings
18 Second Thief

I'm not too good at typing up my opinions on music. I like to explain how I feel about music verbally face to face with someone. But I have a nice story! :D

I'm not sure why these guys aren't on here but they get the message across for sure. My best friend went back and forth with Christianity for a bit. While he was in one of his Christian phases he introduced me to this band. I feel that this is the main band that converted me for good. I never knew you could have such a great time listening to Christian music and learn so much from it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a "Bible thumper", I still listen to some pretty heavy satanic stuff. I mean Children of Bodom and Rings of Saturn are two of my favorite bands. I will never be a perfect Christian. But who can be?
