Greatest Israeli Metal Albums

The greatest metal albums from Israel.

I did not include Melechesh here since they are no longer based in Israel.
The Top Ten
El Norra Alila - Orphaned Land

The first oriental metal album, one of the earliest progressive death metal and melodic death doom outputs, and a prototypical example of extreme prog, upon which Opeth would later expand.

Pretty much goated in every regard! Some of the greatest riffs I've ever heard, with unique production and amazing song flow. Easily Israel's greatest metal album, in my opinion.

Recommended tracks: The Truth Within, Of Temptation Born, Find Yourself, Discover God

Strangers - Scardust

A modern progressive metal album that pays homage to the old-school releases of the genre, like Symphony X and Dream Theater. Very refined, yet at times unpredictable and even a little zany.

One of my favorite prog releases of the past decade.

Recommended tracks: Break the Ice, Concrete Cages, Gone

Exodus: Slaves for Life - Amaseffer

Aside from some major production issues, this album is one of the best prog metal releases of the late 2000s. Dark and cinematic, the album takes you on a hypnotizing biblical journey through the desert.

Recommended tracks: The Wooden Staff, Slaves for Life, Midian

Kaddish - Salem

A deeply personal memorial to the Holocaust, Kaddish is an excellent death doom album that evokes a strong sense of melancholy and lightly utilizes Middle Eastern modality.

The Dot Above the Eye - Venus in Fear

Like Dream Theater meets Orphaned Land with a Nightwish-like singer. Very melodic with an indie feel to it.

Some production issues, but overall very good.

Ketoret - Ketoret

An ethereal post-black metal album that is done remarkably well.

Underwatermoon - Winterhorde

Symphonic/melodic black metal with a progressive edge. Infuses Middle Eastern modality and death metal structures to create a diverse experience.

A very good extreme prog album.

Lo Sham - A'sh

Lo Shem (lit. "No Name") by Ash (lit. "Moth") is a very modern, dissonant death metal album filled with avant-garde progression. It is heavy and intense, yet engaging.

Nightmarish Compositions - Bishop of Hexen

A symphonic black metal album with gothic compositions and a dark atmosphere. Uncompromising and intense.

Kivshan - Prey for Nothing

The Newcomers

? The Mist Within - Li'ed
? SwineSong - Omb
The Contenders
Mountain Fever - Subterranean Masquerade

I think Vagabond is a better album, but it's not a metal album. This one is still very good.

It's not completely metal, more prog rock and heavy psych than anything, but enough to be mentioned here.

Methuselian - Methuselian
Memorial - Distorted
Pillars of Creation - Obsidian Tide
ColorBlind - Stormy Atmosphere
