The Top Ten
Master of Puppets - Metallica

This is an anti-drug song. Drugs are the masters and drug addicts are the puppets.

"The Master of Puppets is pulling your strings, twisting your mind and smashing your dreams."

"Come crawling faster, obey your Master."

This song tells you that doing drugs isn't good. It makes you dependent.

One - Metallica

It's an anti-war song. Chills from start to finish. You just have to watch the video and hear the song.

Holy Wars...The Punishment Due - Megadeth

"Brother will kill brother
Spilling blood across the land
Killing for religion
Something I don't understand

Fools like me, who cross the sea
And come to foreign lands
Ask the sheep, for their beliefs
Do you kill on God's command? "

Alison Hell - Annihilator

About parents ignoring the problems of their children.

Peace Sells - Megadeth

It questions the social order and talks about the need for social change.

"What do you mean I don't believe in God? Talk to him every day.
What do you mean I don't support your system? I go to court when I have to.
What do you mean I can't get to work on time? Got nothing better to do.
What do you mean I don't pay my bills? Why do you think I'm broke? Huh?

If there's a new way, I'll be the first in line."

Megadeth, one of my favorite thrash metal bands. I started my metal journey with Megadeth.

When I listen to them, I know I'm alive.

Masked Jackal - Coroner

About some politicians and leaders who are "masked jackals."

"Darling of the T.V. screen
Manipulator of the purse strings
Master of the spoken word
Jackal with connections
Worshiped by the masses
Leader with ulterior motives."

Black Prophecies - Dark Angel

This song was released in 1986 when the Cold War was still a huge potential risk. Among many other things, the song describes the outcomes of a possible WWIII. This song is a warning - people have to be careful and learn from the past.

"Third war
Final scar
Soon the obliteration will be total.
...
Nuclear fire
The earth has expired
The worldly lands became a massive funeral pyre.
Ruinous blaze
The landscape is razed
Due to the nuclear winter's frost, life is denied.

Now the people today understand and take heed..."

Basta Ya (Enough) - UDO
99 Ways to Die - Megadeth
Anthem - Iced Earth

"In your eyes I see you're desperate and in hunger
Reclaim your future, your paths uncertain
See this child it's raised in hate and in anger
His eyes wide open, his rage so focused
...
The single mother she is strained and she suffers
She slaves away, her life in turmoil
The homeless man had it all and now has nothing
His spirit broken plagued from injustice"

The Newcomers

? Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine
? Dark Days - Parkway Drive
The Contenders
The Unforgiven - Metallica

This song has so many layers that cover most of the lyrical themes I listed in the list description.

One Child - Savatage
Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Metallica

It's about people with mental disorders (sanitarium is a mental institution). This song reminds me of the book/movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (the movie stars Jack Nicholson as a mental patient).

To Hell and Back - Sabaton

In 2014, a Swedish metal band wrote this song about Audie Murphy and his post-traumatic stress disorder. Audie Murphy was a WWII hero from Kingston, Texas.

Chance - Savatage

It's based on a true story - about a Japanese diplomat in the USSR who saved many Jews during WWII by issuing exit visas. He put his life at risk but did the right thing. Musically, amazing song.

Child In Time - Deep Purple
Poor Man's Crusade - Demons & Wizards

It's about the Crusades.

"So we will slaughter in the name of Christ."

Aces High - Iron Maiden
People = S**T - Slipknot
Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden

White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes killed our creed
He took our game for his own need

We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for Cree
Oh will we ever be set free?

Doesn't Matter Anyway - Savatage

I do love this anti-war song.

Chemical Warfare - Slayer
Angel of Death - Thin Lizzy
Blood On Your Hands - Primal Fear

"God save us from the stupid leaders
Who lead a million souls to death."

Primo Victoria - Sabaton
