Top 10 Best Star Trek Movies

The Top Ten
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)

Nothing beats that movie. Realistic science, an amazing villain, bromance between the main characters, and a very emotional finale with a heart-wrenching sacrifice.

Why is the new one number one? THIS is the true Star Trek movie. It has all the characters: THE Kirk, THE Spock, and THE Dr. McCoy. Truly the best Star Trek movie of them all.

Saw it. The tug-of-war between Kirk and Khan was sci-fi's version of Cain versus Abel, two people who just loathed each other, and Khan murdering Kirk's son was an added bonus.

Star Trek VIII: First Contact (1996)

The BEST Star Trek movie. It is a great sequel to the episodes, and its story has definitely impacted future series (a great part of Voyager's plot was based on what was established in this movie). I think this movie brought out the best in all the actors, and also portrayed the Borg as a more formidable villain than had been previously shown in the episodes. Also, it was directed by Jonathan Frakes, who, in my opinion, is hands down the best director Star Trek has had (he also directed some of the greatest TNG and DS9 episodes).

Star Trek (2009)

The Wrath of Khan was a great movie, but the reboot is awesome. When I watched the original Star Trek movies, they reminded me too much of the TV series - somewhat corny. The franchise has gotten a big boost for the better, with a more realistic look and technology.

I have to give respect to the old films. They deserve No. 1, but for me, I just can't stop liking the 2009 reboot. The Enterprise was beautiful. It all just worked. I just find this movie more entertaining.

A great sequel/prequel to the first Star Trek series. Love it! I can't wait until the posters for Star Trek 2 reach the walls of the cinema!

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)

This is the best one for sure. Hilarious and so genuine to the time setting. Spock trying to fit in with his "colorful metaphors" was just great. Bones and Kirk were great, and the scene where Kirk is demoted is such great acting by Shatner. Definitely better than Undiscovered Country, First Contact, Star Trek 2009, and Wrath of Khan.

It's hard to find something negative to say about this one. Pretty damn entertaining.

The funniest and happiest Star Trek movie. Wrath of Khan is very close but didn't have the humor needed.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)

Underrated, I think. Better than IV, in my opinion, but a little less than TWOK. Deserves second place, tied with First Contact.

This one had an interesting plot.

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Definitely too low. It really irritates me how some hardcore Trek fans are almost upset at how good the new Trek movies are due to their differing style. There are certainly admirable qualities in Voyage Home, Undiscovered Country, and Wrath of Khan, but the Abrams films have more exciting pacing, stories, visuals, and great humor. The only Trek movie that really holds the same level of cinematic excitement as the two new movies is First Contact.

I voted on this list before I saw Into Darkness. As soon as I got home, I changed my vote. This movie is the combination of my two favorites: Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home. It has the action that Voyage Home needed and the humor that Wrath of Khan needed. Best Star Trek movie.

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984)

Cosmo Kramer's right. This is the best Star Trek movie.

Star Trek VII: Generations (1994)

Saw it with a friend, and we both had a good time. Great cast, score, effects, and emotional scenes, even if the last parts with the Nexus are a bit contrived. It's a shame people give it flack for killing Kirk, which I've never minded, and I'm more a fan of TOS than TNG.

It was pure genius bringing two of the greatest Star Trek captains into the same movie. When Kirk died at the end, I cried.

Star Trek X: Nemesis (2002)

It may not be the best film in the series, but it gave us a lot of really cool action that the series needed to bring back. It also finally made peace between the Humans and the Romulans possible (in a way). Picard's final mission did deserve a little more, but it was a rather decent ending for the Next Generation crew.

How can this be so low down? This film is amazing. The Enterprise E and the Scimitar are awesome.

This was a decent movie. I have no clue why my parents hated it.

Star Trek I: The Motion Picture (1979)

The first and my favorite of the movies. Spock at his best, as he understands the machine's logic. The Voyager storyline is the most thought-provoking, dealing with AI intelligence. Also still impressive visually, even by today's standards.

I personally found this one boring, but again, I respect your opinions.

It's definitely overall not the best, but the scenery is amazing.

The Newcomers

? Star Trek Beyond (2016)

It's amazing! I love Jaylah. She's so pretty and awesome. For some reason, she reminds me of Rosalina in Super Mario Galaxy. The movie reminds me of Super Mario Galaxy somewhat. Great movie.

I watched the movie, and it was pretty okay. Better than Insurrection or Nemesis by far.

? Star Trek IX: Insurrection (1998)

Oh, come on! This was great. How is The Final Frontier, which is one of the worst movies ever made, above this?

Please rank this above Nemesis. This one teaches a good lesson, and at least *someone* doesn't die.

The Contenders
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)

Okay, it was goofy, crazy, loopy, call it what you want. This movie is entertaining as hell and deserves to be higher than this. Nemesis is in no way better than this movie, and Generations is insanely high considering how slow-moving it is. I'd say even the original movie isn't as good as this one! Crazy is better than boring!

This movie is underrated, especially when Scotty says, I know this ship like the back of my hand.
