Top 10 Movies That Deserved to Win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature But Didn't

Sure, they didn't win the Oscar, but they were deserving nonetheless. Of course, not every nominee can be a winner and often enough the competition is very stiff. This list compiles the animated movies that deserved to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The Top Ten
Wreck-It Ralph

This lost to Brave. In other words, it lost to one of Pixar's weaker movies in its catalog. It's kind of sad, considering Disney managed to finally craft a successful and beloved computer-animated film made by Walt Disney Animation Studios themselves, instead of relying on Pixar all the time for computer-animated movies.

I liked Brave, but it's one of Pixar's weakest films. Wreck-It Ralph, on the other hand, is my seventh favorite Disney movie of all time.

Before, I thought this movie was ok. Then one day, I rewatched this movie, and it's really good. I'm surprised that a video game movie is actually really good. I was a little disappointed that it didn't win an Oscar, but Brave still deserves it.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

One of the best graphics I've ever seen. The relationships between the characters are so natural and real. I've just never loved a movie this much.

Monsters, Inc.
How to Train Your Dragon

Certainly, it's a great movie, but its competition was tough. It's my favorite movie. Yet, Toy Story 3 was critically superior. I was hoping that HTTYD could win.

The Wind Rises

This movie is beautiful. Studio Ghibli deserves those awards because they put so much time and hard work into their movies, and they make movies for the art, not the money.

Coraline

I'm honestly shocked that this movie didn't win. So much effort was put into it, and everything about this movie was impressive.

Shrek 2
Despicable Me 2
Fantastic Mr. Fox

This movie is fantastic. No pun intended.

This movie is just plain unique.

Paranorman
The Contenders
Cars

That was a good movie. Too bad they didn't win.

It was the best animated film of 2006, which was a horrible year for the film industry.

The Lego Movie

This movie is probably the most impressively animated movie I've ever seen. The mix of stop-motion and CGI animation made it all the more impressive.

2014 winner: Big Hero 6.

Actually, Big Hero 6 was better than this, but I loved this movie.

Song of the Sea

This studio's movies are always an absolute and utter joy to watch. The story is beautiful, and the art. Oh, the art. At any time, you can pause this movie and have something picture-worthy. The nature designs and the lighthouse shots are incredible. The characters are likable as well.

Kubo and the Two Strings

Should have won over the preach-fest that did win.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs
Kung Fu Panda 2
Moana

Lost to everyone's obsession with racism, which, of course, manifested in the winner, Zootopia.

The Simpsons Movie

That's too bad it didn't win. This is one of the best movies that should have won.

Monster House
Ernest & Celestine
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
Rise of the Guardians
Despicable Me

I couldn't stop watching this movie. I couldn't stop laughing. It's beyond clever and humorous!

Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius

Why did it lose to Shrek? I am sad. I love this movie. I love Jimmy Neutron a lot, and the fact that it didn't win an Oscar makes my heart broken. I dislike you, Oscar the fish, trash, and Shrek the ogre. Nobody wanted him to win. One vote equals one award and a hug for Jimmy Neutron.
