Top 10 Best My Chemical Romance Songs

What makes a My Chemical Romance (MCR) song the best? Is it the raw emotion, the driving instrumentals, the theatrical flair, or a combination of all these elements?

Formed in Newark, New Jersey in 2001, MCR quickly established themselves as one of the most iconic rock bands of the 2000s. With their dramatic sound, dark lyrics, and distinct visual style, they garnered a devoted fanbase and critical acclaim.

The band's discography spans five studio albums, each showcasing a unique sound and thematic exploration. From the punk-infused energy of their debut, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, to the operatic grandeur of The Black Parade, and the experimental rock of Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, MCR has consistently pushed boundaries and reinvented their sound.

Choosing the best MCR songs is a subjective endeavor, as different tracks appeal to different people for various reasons. Some might gravitate towards the anthemic power of Welcome to the Black Parade, while others might connect with the vulnerability of Helena or the rebellious spirit of Teenagers.
The Top Ten
1 Welcome to the Black Parade

My Chemical Romance and The Black Parade are dead, but their music, their values, and the life-changing effect they had on fans will never die. This song is powerful and emotional in many different ways. I feel a huge sense of pride each time I listen to this song, and it helps me "carry on."

It really is a masterpiece. I feel like this song perfectly represents what they are, as well as aligning with the concept of The Patient, which is also outstanding. They will always stay close to my heart and remain as one of the greatest and most important rock bands of this generation.

2 Famous Last Words

Famous Last Words keeps me living. The lyrics mean so much to me. I used to be so scared of everything, but this song told me that I shouldn't be afraid to keep on living and walk this world alone. It's so powerful. I love the guitar, Gee's voice is superb, and I can feel the emotion coursing through my veins and my heart, you know?

The Black Parade holds first place because it's essentially My Chemical Romance's symbol. However, I think Famous Last Words conveys the most important message: you shouldn't depend on something or someone to keep on living, and you are enough.

3 Helena

This new kid came to school. She was different in the way she dressed, talked, looked - everything! My friends and I started hanging out with her. She obviously had a different taste in music. She would sing parts of songs now and then, none of which I had ever heard of, and with very weird lyrics.

We started asking, "What song's that?" Then we would listen to it, and we actually started to like it! She changed us all. She introduced us to this whole new different world. This is one of my favorite songs in particular.

This song is great and has so much meaning to it. I used to be a part of a community for Garry's Mod (I know, not something to be proud of), and I loved the community just as much as they loved me. One day, I had to leave the server and the community as a whole due to personal issues. In the few minutes I was there, a good number of people and I sang this song. Shortly after, I left.

I'll never forget everyone who showed up to sing. Memories were made that night. "Show's over. Time to move on. So long and goodnight, everyone."

4 I'm Not Okay (I Promise)

This song may not be the best song ever, but it is my absolute favorite. I tear up when I hear this song more than I do when watching the video for WTTBP. Gerard's voice is amazing as usual. The truth behind the lyrics is so pure and real.

No matter what mood I'm in, this song makes me feel empowered. If I'm angry or sad, it's perfect because I really am not okay. If I'm already happy, it's still an amazing song to listen to because of Gerard's amazing voice and the guys' incredible guitar playing. "Trust me" never fails to make me smile.

So, for anyone who likes D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini, and Croquet, and for anyone who can't swim, can't dance, and doesn't know karate, let's face it: we're never going to make it. But maybe, just maybe, we don't want to. We have this song to keep us going, and whether or not we "make it" doesn't really matter.

5 Teenagers

This was the first MCR song I listened to after getting it in my recommendations from listening to I'm Not A Vampire by Falling In Reverse. To this day, it's still my favorite MCR song almost two years later.

And yes, I've darkened my clothes and struck a violent pose since January 2020. Even my nails have been painted black, like my soul.

This is such a catchy song, and the lyrics really ring true. The guitar throughout this song is some of My Chemical Romance's best. This song really encourages everyone to go on and fight against prejudice for being a teenager.

6 Na Na Na

This is by far THE BEST My Chemical Romance song. I can recite it from memory, and just hearing it makes me feel energized. My friends and I scream this in the hallways at school. I've actually gained the nickname Party Poison from this, and my friend is Kobra Kid. Laugh out loud. I've probably watched the music video one million times.

It's a great song, marking a new era of My Chemical Romance. It might not be The Black Parade or Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, but this is still probably the best album of all.

Be a Fabulous Killjoy.

7 The Ghost of You

This song should be at least in the top 5. It is a mournful song that made me cry. Then, when I watched the music video, I started to bawl my eyes out. Gerard Way in the video reminds me of my grandpa, who fought in WWII and lost many army buddies.

My friend told me that Slipknot was great. I agreed. He also said that System of a Down, Korn, Linkin Park, and Skillet were awesome. I agreed. My friend told me that My Chemical Romance sucked. I punched him in the nose.

This song needs to be higher on the list! Sure, their other songs are amazing, but this one has such emotion in the lyrics, and the music video really makes me feel what I think the song is trying to convey. It's such a powerful song. Every time I listen to it, I think, "This is what music really is."

8 Sing

Out of all the songs by My Chemical Romance, this song has really stood out to me and touched me. There's something so special about it. This may not be a super fast song or anything, but the lyrics have an extremely powerful meaning behind them.

Even though we all have our struggles and worries, we should all try to focus on others and make other people happy. Some people are in a worse position than you, and you could really change someone's life or make them happier.

I love this song. It's filled with meaning and emotion. I used to be this really shy girl who hated to sing because I was just okay at it. But after this song, I sang all the time because the point is to sing! Sing no matter what! Be musical, because that's what we offer back to the world - a piece of art coming truly from deep inside of us.

9 Dead!

I first heard this song while playing Guitar Hero II at my friend's house (it was the first song, I guess), and I immediately fell in love with it.

"What amazing music, it's so energetic, the guitar solos are perfect, I've never heard anything like it before," I thought. So I played it again, and again, and again.

I searched for the song on YouTube and, as it was such a good song, I decided to look for other My Chemical Romance songs. This was certainly a great decision, which made me a fan of My Chemical Romance.

Because of the meaning it has for me, this song will always have a special place in my heart.

10 Cancer

It's just an amazing song. It sounds ridiculous to play on the piano. Also, I don't understand why the quality of my post is based solely on its length. I think that's ridiculous, just as ridiculous as this song, actually. It doesn't know that I'm just saying garbage that has nothing to do with the song, but I'm sitting at a solid "good" right now. Anyway, great song.

Just the most emotional My Chemical Romance song.

I mean, it's probably not the best My Chemical Romance song, but it is undoubtedly the most beautiful and the only one that has made me cry.

Anyway, I like to vote for a minority, and Cancer should replace Mama in the Top Ten.

By the way, The Black Parade is the best album.

It just touches you too deeply in your heart.

The Contenders
11 I Don't Love You

The words are so magical. I still can remember my days going to school. I used to walk all the way from home to school while putting headphones in my ears and listening to this song again and again.

It's so beautiful, and Gerard's voice in this song and the theme of the video are just incredible. Hats off. Best song ever.

I just started listening to My Chemical Romance this year, and I already love them so much. This is my absolute favorite off of Black Parade, and I love this song. It just makes you want to play it over and over again. Gerard's voice is like an angel's. I'm so glad I found this band.

12 Mama

Where to begin with this creative masterpiece? It's about a guy who kills someone in a war and goes mad with guilt as he tries to write his mother a letter. This song is so intricate and complex. It's always changing and doesn't let your attention go for a second. The strings in the background add a quirky, macabre touch. The harmonies are fantastic.

And holy crap, that ending! After building and building, the song ends with an explosive final verse in 3/4 time and concludes with Gerard quietly weeping over a violin solo. Whoa. Not for the faint of heart, but this is a stone-cold brilliant song.

13 Disenchanted

Gerard wrote this about Mikey's depression while they were in the early stages of The Black Parade and were still touring for "Three Cheers." Mikey didn't want to tour anymore, hence the lyric "The roar of the crowd gave me heartache to sing." It was discarded for a while after it was written, but Mikey kept returning to it. He fought to get it on the record.

He also listened to this song in a lounge for five hours on repeat. This is his favorite song on the record, and mine too.

This song is the anthem of my teenage years. It has gotten me through good times, but more importantly, bad times. It's the only song that can reduce me to tears in a matter of seconds.

It's a ballad that can speak to every person who listens to it. Everyone can find a lyric to relate to. It's that universal.

14 The Sharpest Lives

This song should definitely be in the top 10. The lyrics speak to me so much, and the instrumentals are amazing. It's different from much of their other stuff and has such a strong vibe. I'm totally addicted to this song and listen to it even when I'm not on a My Chemical Romance kick. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great song to listen to, whether My Chemical Romance is on their list of favorites or not.

This is the song that actually pulled me into My Chemical Romance. Before this song, My Chemical Romance was sort of an "eh" band to me (I can't believe I thought that now). But then I listened to The Sharpest Lives, and literally, my life changed. I listened to it about fifty times that day! I love this song so much.

15 Bulletproof Heart

This is the song that got me into My Chemical Romance, and since then it's always been my favorite. I heard it once on MTV and had no idea who the band was. I didn't catch its title or the band's name, and the song was stuck in my head the whole day. I had to stay up until 4 a.m. on a school day until they played it again just to know the name of the song. That's how I fell in love with My Chemical Romance.

My favorite song of all time. I've listened to it over 2,000 times on iTunes. It never gets old. I'm so glad they put it on Guitar Hero too (as a shop song) because it's amazing and so fun to play.

Everyone should love this song, and it's way too underrated. People should pay more attention to bands' lesser-known music, because that is truly what is best.

16 The Light Behind Your Eyes

This song is probably the band's best. It feels really good. If you think about the song's lyrics, some parts sound like a grown-up My Chemical Romance saying goodbye, starting anew, but keeping the faith. Keep the faith, even if they're gone. That's how it feels.

Plus, the song is really clean, which makes it one of their easiest songs to learn on any instrument.

Even as a hardcore My Chemical Romance fan who loves all their old music, you cannot pass this one by. Why? Because the lyrics are beautiful and actually have meaning behind them too.

You're mad if you don't like this song of theirs. No true My Chemical Romance fan would hate on any of their music. They are all majestic people.

17 The Only Hope for Me is You

I love this song. It always makes me cry because it reminds me of how the band broke up, and this song holds a lot of personal meaning to me.

Amazing song, which was even included in the Transformers 3 soundtrack! Great guitar! Deserves top 3 at least.

I love this song - it changed my life. Really. The lyrics are amazing and moving, and I wish I could just hear it over and over. Amazing.

18 This is How I Disappear

This has been my favorite song for years. It's in all of my playlists, and I can never get tired of it. This is definitely my favorite song and it got me obsessed with My Chemical Romance. Amazingness!

This should definitely be up there with Famous Last Words, Helena, Welcome to the Black Parade, Dead, etc. Best song ever!

Are you kidding me? This is one brilliant song that every fan should go back to. This song just makes me feel both sad and really happy at the same time. My Chemical Romance really is the best when it comes to expressing emotions.

19 I Never Told You What I Do for a Living

Why is this so far down? This song is awesome. It has a Sweeney Todd-type progression, where it's loud and angry sounding at the beginning and ends with a hopeless, tragic sound. It has a story and concept which, again, is tragic. It has a really good sound to it, and it's an amazing way to end this amazing, perfect album.

I really think this song should be up there above other amateur songs, mainly the ones on Danger Days. It's not that I'm being a hipster who's like, "they shouldn't have changed their sound," because I think change is encouraged, but that album was just awful.

This song is the song I can never get tired of. I love it, and I don't understand why this is so far down.

20 You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison

For those who don't even know this song, you should be ashamed. This song is amazingly good. It's not only intense but also deep. This song's epicness can only be matched by the best My Chemical Romance songs, including Helena, Famous Last Words, and Welcome to the Black Parade. Not to mention, it's also a shot of pure testosterone to your heart.

This is by far my favorite. You get the amazing lyrics (I mean, come on, songs about going to prison for murdering a ton of people? Awesome!), then you have Gerard's vocals screaming with Bert McCracken's (from The Used) over the top, and it's just wow. It gets me raving every time. How is it not number 1?

21 Planetary (Go)

I love this song because it's not their typical type of song, but they nailed it so well. I honestly think it should be higher on this list. It's so catchy and upbeat, and it helps pick me up out of bad moods. Great song.

This was the first My Chemical Romance song I ever listened to. Without it, I would probably never have found out about My Chemical Romance in the first place, so that is why it is my favorite song.

I've seen them live. This is by far the best song by My Chemical Romance. Possibly one of the best driving songs too. It's the soundtrack to GT5, an epic game. This song is one I will forever rock out to.

22 Early Sunsets Over Monroeville

I wonder why this song is this far down. I love My Chemical Romance with all my heart, and this is my favorite song of all time. Gerard sings this song with so much emotion it makes me shiver, and sometimes even cry. I've never heard a song sung with so much passion.

You really can't find fault with this song. Please vote it higher up, because this is a truly heart-wrenching and amazing song that I love with a passion. Thank you, My Chemical Romance, for making such an amazing song.

Proud Member of the MCRmy. "Your eyes vacant and stained."

23 Vampires Will Never Hurt You

This is one of my favorite songs ever. The original studio's music and lyrics are amazing, and the newer performances show that although they may have changed - with a keyboard in the songs and everything - they are still very much My Chemical Romance.

This is also one of their first songs, which should probably rank higher. But the raw emotion in it is just epic, and I also really like the ending with the ghostly whispers. It totally gives me chills.

I have to say, this is my favorite My Chemical Romance song currently.

24 Thank You for the Venom

This is my favorite song from them by a lot. Every time I go back and listen to their songs, I hear this one and my heart melts. I get nostalgic. Words cannot describe how much I love this song, nor why I love it, apparently.

The vocals and the riff are awesome. This song should be much higher up in the rankings. It has one of the best endings.

The intro riff - how could you beat that? And the vocals! This is one of my favorite My Chemical Romance songs ever.

25 House of Wolves

It's one of my absolute favorite songs! How can this not be in the top 10?!

I agree with the first three songs, but "Teenagers," "Helena," and "Sing" are not that good.

In my opinion, "House of Wolves," "The Sharpest Lives," "This Is How I Disappear," "Summertime," "Destroya," and "The End" should be much higher!

I could listen to this song constantly. I love it!

I don't get what is with everyone and Welcome to the Black Parade though. It is good, but my favorites are This Is How I Disappear, Mama, Famous Last Words, and of course, House of Wolves!
