Top Ten Most Disturbing Songs of All Time
These are the songs that disturb you the most, be it their lyrics, their message, or the way they're sungI first listened to this song when I was...eleven. Yes, I was literally an eleven-year-old kid, and I dared myself to listen to this song. But, like all people who listened to it, I was NOT ready to listen to this song for the first time. Not to brag, but I knew so much about this world as a kid, but that included things that could hurt people, like what Jonathan went through. Heck, "hurt" is an understatement.
At first, we hear this part of the song which sounds like a church hymn. Then, we hear the bass line, and the main part of the song begins. This was easy for me, but my sympathy for John started to emerge. I think people should focus more on those little sounds in the instrumental, too, after John sings "...innocent child" when he sings the chorus for the first time. Man, the instrumental really did set up the mood for this song.
In the middle of the song, we hear choir voices, and Jonathan saying the lyrics in a deep voice. You can hear screams too, which makes this more disturbing. I didn't actually listen to the whole song. I went to see some reaction videos, and in one of them, when I was habitually scrolling through the comments, I saw someone mentioning how Jonathan's breakdown at the end of the song was real. I didn't know about this breakdown, since I didn't listen to the full song. So I went back to the original lyrics video, and heard his breakdown.
It's my least favorite part...because it perfectly captures the trauma of someone who went through sexual abuse as a child. As the song says, it hurt as a child. Jonathan shouts at the abuser, and you hear him crying too. After he sings the chorus for the last time, though, you can hear him mildly crying, and then you can hear his grunts as he shouts at the abuser. It really hurt me when I first saw it, and it still does. Not to mention, in the lyrics video, the lyrics turned red when he was breaking down, and that obviously did not help.

This is essentially an abusive relationship in song form, and it clearly shows. The song starts off quietly, with Eminem talking to his baby daughter, Hailey. However, everything goes downhill when his ex-wife, Kim, arrives. He pushes her and unleashes a tirade of swearing and yelling, all while Kim is crying.
Almost the entirety of the song is like that. The only time that he "raps" is near the end, where he describes another abusive relationship. At the end of the song, he murders her on the side of the road and stuffs her in the trunk. It's clear to see why Eminem hates Kim so much, by making an extremely disturbing song to describe how the relationship went. Badly.
I can imagine Dre listening to this song and just asking what drugs Eminem was on.
It's funny to see Cannibal Corpse burn in hell, seriously. That title is so disturbing.
A good song, but you never forget those lyrics. They stick with you, haunt you.
I showed this to my class, and now I am on a list.
The lyrics are very disturbing and about something no one should have to go through.
This is literally the most disturbing song I have ever heard.
The fact that Stan and maybe even Kim are before this is a joke. Listen all the way through and you'll know why.
This is not a song. I don't even know what this is, or what drug all four of The Beatles were smoking when they made this.
Such a weird song with terrifying audio. This coming from The Beatles is definitely weird.
For The Beatles, it's definitely a change of pace. But in terms of the avant-garde stuff, it's a pioneer in the genre and actually relatively tame for me.
I looked at the story behind this song but still didn't stop me from listening to it any longer. I sensed out so much abuse in the song.
Actually, David Draiman said this about the part in the song where he yells about his mother: I'm really talking about the conflict between the mother culture of society, who's beating down the child yearning for independence and individuality, and the submission of the child.
I love this song. It isn't bad or gross. Why is this on here? If you don't like something, or like something, that is everybody's own decision. If they don't, please don't be rude about it.
People in love, with the man killing the woman over the fear of her leaving him and then raping their corpse. Disgusting, if you ask me.
This song is about killing someone and having sex with their dead body.
The story of a fan who took his obsession too far. It's the last two verses that are most disturbing.
The lyrics are so deeply disturbing it makes me sick sometimes.
The Newcomers
Slipknot is simply the most disturbing band. Humping severed goat heads on stage, huffing rotting bird corpses in a jar before a show, not washing their masks while on tour, having songs about playing with dead bodies, locking a lady in a box and not feeding her, suicide in the bloodiest ways, a kid who gives himself surgery, a song literally called "The Heretic Anthem"... This band is the embodiment of what a scary metal band should be.
I was absolutely terrified listening to this song for the first time. The bass line and vocals are on point, along with sampling guitar and precision drums. Listen to it in complete darkness and let your brain take you to hell.
I looked at the lyrics, and this is some artsy stuff. I really like it.
People are wondering why this song's here.
It's based off Trumbo's novel, Johnny Got His Gun, which describes an American soldier from WW1. The soldier, while crossing the trenches, gets hit by an artillery shell. He loses his limbs, eyes, tongue, jaw, nose, and ears. He's left in that state and begs to God to take his life and end his suffering.
It's about a soldier who keeps losing his body parts after walking on a landmine during war and ends up in a hospital.
I listen to this a lot, started feeling sad inside. Not to mention, it's also an anti-war song.
This song makes you actually visualize everything in the song. This should be number one. The songs ranked above this are nursery rhymes compared to this.
I am not disturbed easily, yet I get the creeps listening to this song.
I cannot imagine how ominous this would have sounded when it came out.
Just an example of a freak of nature making a demented display of "creativity." I was actually looking for a disturbing foreign (Latino, French, Moroccan, Japanese, etc.) songs list and not just punk metal junk.
-F. C. Fox
Really, any of the legendary Marilyn Manson's songs could make this list, but it is this one that is most disturbing, just by the way he sings it.
This song is about a family who locked their kids in the basement. At the end, social services come to rescue them, but the kids think they're there to hurt and abuse them further.
Like Daddy, this song is REAL. While it didn't happen to Kurt, it still happened to someone who's most likely still walking around today.
The story behind this is super dark, and the restrained sound creates an ominous feeling.
This song was very catchy, up until the day I searched up the story behind it.
I never really knew what this song talked about, so I played it back over and over and died a little inside after finally figuring it out.
The lyrics are about suicide, almost to the point where it glorifies it. It also mentions mutilation. Surprisingly, there wasn't any controversy surrounding this song.
