Best Songs from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's Paper Mache Dream Balloon

Paper Mâché Dream Balloon is the seventh studio album by Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. It was released on 13 November 2015 through Flightless Records in Australia, Heavenly Recordings in the UK, and ATO Records in the US.

The album was recorded using primarily acoustic instruments, further diverting from the band's usual energetic psychedelic rock sound.

The Top Ten
  1. Trapdoor

An exceptionally eerie song, the slightly offbeat nature of the chorus combined with the off-putting high vocal notes makes it a bizarre, slightly unsettling listen. The softer sung sections sound really great as well, definitely a highlight of the album.

  2. Paper Mache Dream Balloon

I love the fact that this ends up sounding like an acoustic rendition of one of their more energetic pieces, such as I'm In Your Mind. The drums in particular give off this impression, and it just sounds really cool in general because of this, balancing the soothing tones of the flute with the energy of the drums.

  3. Sense

I absolutely adore the use of clarinet in this song. Not only does it sound great in terms of musicianship, but it also works absolutely stunningly with the song. All in all, I love this song.

  4. Most of What I Like

The various wind instruments all culminate beautifully in this song, creating some absolutely wonderful passages. The vocal layering is also a nice touch.

  5. Dirt

Some absolutely gorgeous use of flute here, with exceptional guitar melodies to back it up. The vocals are really pleasant in general, and I personally believe that Stu Mackenzie is an underrated vocalist.

  6. Bone

Many of the tracks on this album are based around a particular instrument, with this one clearly being the flute, which sounds lovely all around. The chorus has a really nice vibe to it.

  7. Time = $$$

I enjoy the somewhat noisy drumming combined with some really relaxing vocals. Not much to say, but it's a pretty nice song in general.

  8. Paper Mache

Even though there are no vocals present and it's just a short flute solo, I still enjoy this more than quite a number of other songs due to its simplicity lending itself to the all-around pleasant feel that most of this album gives.

  9. N.G.R.I (Bloodstain)

I find this song to be kinda odd in terms of lyrics, but I love how happy the melody is when there are lyrics such as "Suffer endlessly". The harmonica is also just a lot of fun here as well.

  10. Cold Cadaver

While the instrumentals in general were pretty great, I found many of the vocal melodies to be quite lackluster, which overall hurt the song in a big way, although it's still not bad.

  11. The Contenders
  12. Time = Fate

  13. The Bitter Boogie
