As a fan of both, I can say that the only similarity between the two is the fact that they use masks. Slipknot's style features an angry and heavy nu-metal sound, while Mushroomhead's features really experimental stuff with elements from every subgenre of alt-metal.

That isn't even true in the slightest. Even their debut album Core, which may sound like Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains' style at times, doesn't make them a "copycat." I would consider them a contemporary of the grunge bands.
How is Stone Temple Pilots a Pearl Jam rip-off? Most grunge singers sound similar. Scott and Eddie are two of those singers who sound somewhat similar.
