Celebrities Who Surprisingly Have Stage Names

These are typical examples of rather obvious stage names. These...not so much. A lot of Hollywood's top actors and the music industry's top singers have obvious stage names, but who are the lesser-known actors and singers with stage names?
The Top Ten
1 Tom Cruise Thomas Cruise Mapother IV is an American actor and producer. He has received various accolades for his work, including three Golden Globe Awards and three nominations for Academy Awards. He is one of the highest-paid actors in the world.

Although it sounds normal enough, Tom Cruise technically isn't his actual name. That would be Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. Not only would that be a mouthful to address the guy as, but how do you even pronounce 'Mapother'?

2 Billie Eilish Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell, known professionally as Billie Eilish (born December 18, 2001) is an American singer and songwriter, best known for her songs "When the Party's Over", "Bury a Friend", "Everything I Wanted", "Happier Than Ever" and especially "Bad Guy".

Hers may be a bit more obvious than Tom Cruise's, but Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell was probably too long of a name, and I wouldn't be surprised if she got harassed over the fact that Pirate is in her name.

3 Elizabeth Banks

Not as drastic of a change as the others, so far, Banks kept her first name but changed her last name from Mitchell to Banks. Don't ask me why.

4 Mahershala Ali

Born as Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore. Understandably changed, because let me ask you this: How the heck do you pronounce 'Mahershalalhashbaz'?

5 Michael Keaton Michael John Douglas (born September 5, 1951), professionally known as Michael Keaton, is an American actor. He is best known for portraying the DC Comics superhero Bruce Wayne / Batman in the films Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), and is set to reprise the role in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU)... read more

I guess Michael Douglas just doesn't have the same ring to it as Michael Keaton does.

6 Luke Bryan Thomas Luther Bryan, known professionally as Luke Bryan, is an American country music singer and songwriter.
7 Steven Tyler Steven Tyler is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and former television music competition judge, best known as the lead singer of the Boston-based rock band Aerosmith, in which he also plays the harmonica, and occasional piano and percussion.

The same idea as Mahershala Ali, Steven Tallarico was probably mispronounced so many times that he decided, "Alright, forget it. I'm Steven Tyler now."

8 Brie Larson Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers, known professionally as Brie Larson, is an American actress and filmmaker.

Yes, Captain Marvel's name is almost 100% fake. Her full REAL name, as you can see in the bio, is Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers. Let me know if you know how to pronounce Sidonie or Desaulniers.

9 Charlie Sheen Carlos Irwin Estévez, known professionally as Charlie Sheen, is an American actor. Sheen has appeared in films including Platoon, Wall Street, Young Guns, Eight Men Out, Major League, Hot Shots!, and The Three Musketeers.

The visual kind of makes him look like Mark Cuban. Right, I just had to get that out of my head. Anyways, Sheen's name is actually Carlos Estevez, and his middle name is Irwin. No wonder he changed his name to something more normal for an American.

12 Alicia Keys Alicia Augello Cook, known by the pseudonym Alicia Keys, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress.

Her, Elizabeth Banks, Luke Bryan, and Michael Keaton are the most odd for me. None of the original names seem to have anything particularly bad about them.

Like most, if not all, people on this list when I made it, Alicia Keys is only 50% a stage name and 50% real. Alicia is her actual name, but Cook is her last name. And Augello is her middle name.

13 David Bowie David Robert Jones, known professionally as David Bowie (January 8, 1947 - January 10, 2016) was an English singer born in London, the son of a fundraiser and a waitress.
