Top 10 Commonly Used Sayings or Quotes That Are False

The Top Ten
“Anything is possible.”

Nope, not everything is possible. Such as time traveling, flying with wings, lifting a building, or having any superpowers. They would be kind of cool to have, though.

March Madness, enough said. Although filling out a perfect bracket is actually impossible.

“Practice makes perfect.”

Perfect practice makes perfect when you're aware of your weaknesses while practicing. It's all about analyzing and adapting other methods when things don't work, rather than repetition. When you practice without a clear goal in mind or ignore the imperfections you made, you're more likely to stick to your bad habits, which will be harder to forget over time.

Wrong. Believe it or not, it's possible that if you don't practice the right way, you won't improve. You can't just expect to get better by chucking a basketball at a hoop. You have to work on dribbling and your shooting form.

“You can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

This is basically the same as the anything is possible one.

I would like to see how that turns out for me.

“Humans only use 10% of their brain.”

I liked the movie Lucy, but I don't think this theory is true.

“COVID-19 is just a flu with a 99% survival rate.”
“Homosexuality is a sin.”
“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
“All men ever think about is sex.”

Men think about sex because it's natural, but to say that's all they ever think about is an exaggeration. However, you also can't accuse men of thinking about sex when women dress "flashy and flirtatiously" and post it on social media. They are literally asking for it.

“Once a cheater always a cheater.”

It's possible to learn from your past, but it's like trust - once you lose it, it's gone for good.

“Just ignore them and they’ll leave you alone.”

So just remember, the next time you're getting beat up, just ignore them! They'll surely stop punching you. Self-defense, what is that?

It depends on what it is. The police tend not to leave you alone just because you ignore them.

The Newcomers

? "No news is good news"

No, for all you know, someone might not be replying to you because they're in a lot of trouble.

No news can sometimes be bad news.

? "It's the thought that counts"

Certainly, it's not entirely true. It's great if you have good intentions, but whether that actually ends up helping people is more important.

The Contenders
"If everyone thought the same, that would be boring."
"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

If this were true, I would not feel shame in everything I've done, nor would anyone else. You all remember those quotes I said that offended everyone. On a related note, is it really selfish to want a better world?

It depends on if you're close to the person that says it or not. When I say that, I mean if it's your parents or your long-term significant other. Otherwise, letting words hurt you is usually up to you to control.

"Life is what you make it."

If that's true, then I was born at Buckingham Palace, started acting on Disney Channel, became a famous model, and am the most beloved and award-winning actress in the history of Earth!
-Alana the Pony

If this were true, then COVID-19 would not exist. Case closed!

"Money is the root of all evil"

Also, "the love of money is the root of all evil" (the original form). Either way, violence and cruelty existed before money, so I don't think it's the only thing responsible, although it absolutely can bring out the worst in people.

"Easy as taking candy from a baby."

The Mythbusters actually tested this, and it takes more force than you would expect.

"The good thing about hitting rock bottom, there’s only one way left to go and that’s UP!"

There is simply way too far of a gap between "rock bottom" and "functioning member of society." Usually, you only go in a horizontal line rather than up.

"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get."
"Money doesn't buy happiness"
"Coronavirus isn't actually real and it's just a myth by the Gov"
"The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell"
"Hindsight is a wonderful thing"

How is knowing something after the event helpful? Surely foresight is better.
