The Top Ten
1 Michael Jackson Michael Jackson (Michael Joseph Jackson; August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, dancer, and songwriter. He passed away from cardiac arrest caused by a propofol and benzodiazepine overdose on June 25, 2009. He donated (at least) a remarkable 500,000,000 dollars to charity. Michael is also known as The King of Pop (a title given to him by Elizabeth Taylor) or under the initials MJ. Dubbed the King of Pop, he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century. ...read more.

He got so big that when he was on The Victory Tour with The Jackson 5, all the people that went just wanted to see him live and not the rest of The Jackson 5!

Pretty much like Beyonce, he's gotten so big that it overshadows Janet Jackson, regardless of how good much of her music is. Beyonce overshadows Solange.

I like both, but I like his solo career better.

Duh, he just overshadowed everyone

2 George Michael Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, known professionally as George Michael, was an English singer, songwriter, record producer, and philanthropist who rose to fame as a member of the music duo Wham!.
3 Justin Timberlake Justin Randall Timberlake is an American singer-songwriter, actor, dancer, and record producer. Born and raised in Tennessee, he appeared on the television shows Star Search and The All-New Mickey Mouse Club as a child.
4 Billy Idol William Michael Albert Broad, known professionally by his stage name Billy Idol, is an English musician, singer, songwriter and actor.

Band: Generation X (it was a punk band and some Billy Idol songs have that punk-ish feel to them)

5 Beyonce Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, is an American singer and actress, who started out in the popular pop/r&b girl group Destiny's Child. They had multiple top 5 hits such as "No, No, No", "Say My Name", "Bills, Bills, Bills", "Survivor", "Independent Women", "Bootylicious", and "Jumpin', Jumpin" from 1999 to 2004. After they broke up in 2006, Beyonce pursued her solo career, creating smash hits such as "Crazy In Love", "Single Ladies", "Halo", "Partition", "Irreplaceable", "Drunk In Love", "Baby Boy", "Beautiful Liar", "7/11", and "Run The World (Girls)", and has since become one of the most influential performers and biggest celebrities of the 21st century.

Group : Destiny's Child

6 Eric Clapton Eric Patrick Clapton is an English rock and blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream. He has also been a member of Derek and the Dominos.

Bands: Yardbirds, Cream, and more.
These bands gained some popularity back in the day but I think Eric Clapton got bigger than them.

More bands: Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominoes, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.

7 Tina Turner Tina Turner, née Anna Mae Bullock, was a singer, dancer, actress and author, whose career spanned more than half a century, earning her widespread recognition and numerous awards.
8 Phil Collins Philip David Charles "Phil" Collins is an English singer-songwriter and musician, who has also worked as a record producer and actor.

Band: Genesis.
Not very high on this list because Genesis were pretty big but his own position in the band wasn't - Genesis fans didn't accept him very well as Peter Gabriel replacement in lead vox. So he personally got bigger without the band.

9 Robbie Williams Robert Peter Williams is an English singer, songwriter and actor. He was a member of the pop group Take That from 1990 to 1995 and again from 2009 to 2012. He has also had commercial success as a solo artist.

Great list. The funny thing about Robbie Williams popularity is how extremely obscure he is in US compared to in other parts. He has 11 albums all of which have reached number 1 or 2 in the UK and all of which have been certified platinum ( multiple ones have also reached number 1 in Germany and Australia got to number 2 and 3 in France and done well in quite a few other countries) but he has never charted in the US at all making him the biggest selling artist from an English speaking country that has been ignored by the Americans like this I wonder what it is that makes him unappealing in the US while insanely popular elsewhere.

Group : Take That

Old band: The Runaways (4 albums with them but not always in lead vox). Joan Jett & the Blackhearts was way more successful.

The Contenders

Before he was known for Linkin Park, Bennington was the lead singer of post-grunge act Grey Daze who was heavily inspired by Stone Temple Pilots they released two albums with Chester before his death. Wake Me and No Sun Today, a third album called Amends would be released in 2020 consisting of voice samples from Bennington. Even with Bennington's ...read more.
