Top Ten Songs with Unnecessarily Long Intros

I just think this song intros are too long, not bad.And when a intro is to long or not it depends on the length of the song.

The Top Ten

1 Spirit Horse of the Cherokee - Manowar

It's a bizarre song start to finish so... - Metal_Treasure

2 Into the Crypts of Rays - Celtic Frost

I like it but you don't wanna hear human screams for 48 seconds every time. - HEAVYMETALTHUNDER12345

3 Aces High - Iron Maiden

Other Iron Maiden songs with unnecessarily long intros:
El Dorado (the first 25 seconds are just noise and than the same thing for another 35 seconds)
The Talisman (the first two minutes are a self-ripoff of The Legacy from the previous album, and that country-metal style doesn't fit the rest of the song)
If Eternity Should Fail (speaks for itself)
Judgement of Heaven
Flash of the Blade - Alkadikce

Definitely not the worst of the Iron Maiden intro but it stops just short of the point that you really start to get irritated by it - germshep24

I like this song but it has a pretty long intro. - RadioHead03

I agree about the Churchill speech - Metal_Treasure

4 Raining Blood - Slayer

I actually kind of like it, it is a pretty effective build up to what's to come, but I don't like that the outro is the same as the intro and just feels pointless and it is longer - germshep24

Most definitely, but Slayer does love short songs, most of the songs are under 3 minutes on that album - germshep24

Not the intro riff but the rain sounds. - HEAVYMETALTHUNDER12345

I noticed that in the 70s and 80s, many rock and metal bands used long intros with sounds. Maybe it was well accepted back then but I agree with you in general - I also wanna go straight to the music. - Metal_Treasure

5 Holy Wars...The Punishment Due - Megadeth

For me the intro is the best part of the song and I play only the intro on a loop, haha. This is my favorite metal intro even though this isn't my favorite metal song and Megadeth aren't my favorite metal band. Just shows how different people are but I'm not saying that being different is a bad thing. - Metal_Treasure

The intro is the best part of this song though and the reason I like Megadeth - germshep24

6 Sails of Charon - Scorpions

I agreed again - I would gladly skip 50 seconds of wind sound. - Metal_Treasure

In some versions the song starts with 50 seconds of wind sound. - HEAVYMETALTHUNDER12345

7 Eagle Fly Free - Helloween

Some times it's together with album opening instrumental Inivitation. - HEAVYMETALTHUNDER12345

8 Speed King - Deep Purple

This song was written to be an opener to their live shows and has that improvisation air to it meant to get the crowd into the mood. But I would shorten the intro a little bit. - Metal_Treasure

It is a pretty good intro even though it is pretty long the only thing I don't like is their so much static to the sound, like he was playing too close to the mic - germshep24

9 Bohemian Rhapsody - Lil Meerkat

Justin Bieber hate got old? No problem, we've got our next scapegoat! - Alkadikce

10 Witching Hour - Venom

The Contenders

11 Tarot Woman - Rainbow
12 Octavarium - Dream Theater

This should be #1. The song starts off with a pre-intro (yes, that's a thing) which is a filler that lasts for 4 minutes. Then that is followed up with another acoustic portion (the main intro) that again lasts for another 4 minutes pushing the total intro length to 8 minutes. Can you believe that? 8 minutes. On average, most songs barely even lasts for 4 minutes. - Joeljohns249

I listened to this song while doing homework because I failed not to switch to something else in other situations. - Alkadikce

The intro is the reason that I think this song is one of the most overrated songs of all time - germshep24

I listened to this all the way through before, it wasn't worth it lol just don't - xEliHbkx

13 Holy Diver - Dio

Should be higher nearly a minute and a half of wind and wolf howls some cool sounding bits but for the most part just why - germshep24

Oh it is I just listened to it before making the comment, because honestly I couldn't remember the intro, its like I blocked it from my memory lol - germshep24

I love the song, but damn the intro - MattAffterburner

This is what I was looking for

14 Baba O'Riley - The Who

It's about one minute long and the first 40 seconds are very repetitive - because the melody is pretty simple, it quickly gets annoying, at least to me. - Metal_Treasure

15 Everybody (Backstreet's Back) - Backstreet Boys

The version on the "Greatest Hits" album has an unnecessarily long instrumental intro with just the beat. The one on the "Backstreet's Back" album has it edited out. - Martin_Canine

16 Pay Day - Lil Flexer
17 I Caught Myself - Paramore
18 Vidage - 1000mods

The same 10 seconds on repeat for 1 and a half minutes, gets boring fast - Alkadikce

19 Bat Out of Hell - Meat Loaf

The intro is around 2 minutes long - LightningStrike

20 Orion - Metallica

Sometimes I think the fading in part feels too long. - Userguy44

21 No Words (Skit) - Hopsin

Why is this on here, skits shouldn't count otherwise this whole list would be the skits on rap albums which are just filler to make a certain album length that everyone skips or in this day and age just deleted from their music collection - germshep24

22 Anime Narrator (Caw Caw) - Lil Mosquito Disease
23 Feeling Blue - Big Baller B & Lil Mosquito Disease
24 Will You Be There - Michael Jackson
25 I Need a Lover - John Mellencamp

Long Intro.
