Top Ten Best Ski Resorts
Whistler is an amazing place. I have gone there since I was four. It teaches me about skiing and has the best paths.
An amazing resort everyone should visit, so much to explore and great snow.
I love this place. Endless amazing terrain that you never get sick of.
No. 1 in my opinion
A resort that ticks all the boxes, having the biggest fully-interlinked ski area in Austria, having been voted 'Best Austrian Ski Resort' by DSV Aktiv magazine of Germany, 'Best European Resort Development' by 'Where to Ski & Snowboard', 5 Star Apres-ski Resort by ADAC Ski Atlas, etc, etc. Combines beautiful scenery with village charm, friendly locals and a good, reliable, ski-convenient area. Has also been named by The Daily Telegraph as the best resort for intermediate skiers - and the apres-ski fun is legendary!
According to the ski industry's "2014 International Report on Snow & Mountain Tourism (which can be Googled), covering thousands of resorts in 56 countries, Saalbach-Hinterglemm is now the second most popular resort in the world (La Plagne being number 1). The resort's lift company has recently announced that it will be installing a connecting link with Fieberbrunn in 2015/16, increasing the piste kilometers by 20%. Also that it will be linking by new lifts with Zell am See-Kaprun in the 2016/17 season, almost doubling the current size of the ski area. I guess it has La Plagne in its sights!
In the list of the world's most popular ski resorts, covering thousands of ski resorts in 56 countries (see 2014 International Report on Snow and Mountain Tourism), Saalbach-Hinterglemm is in number 2 position, behind La Plagne. Last year it was number 7, so it is in the ascendancy, and this is likely to continue with the recent announcement that it is to become connected by new lifts with the neighbouring resorts of Fieberbrunn (in 2015/16) and Zell am See-Kaprun (in 2016/17). Incidentally, although La Plagne (currently) beats it into second place for popularity, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, an original farming village, rather than a purpose-built ski station, is indisputably far prettier and also considerably less expensive. There is also absolutely no comparison in terms of après-ski atmosphere and entertainment.
The Austrian resort that ticks all the boxes. 200km of piste - biggest fully-interlinked ski area in Austria. Voted 'Best Austrian Ski Resort' by DSV Aktiv, leading German sports magazine, and 'Best European Resort Development' by' Where to Ski & Snowboard'. Awarded the full 5 stars by ADAC for its vibrant apres-ski atmosphere... Oh, and it's very very pretty, friendly and relatively inexpensive.
