Star Wars: The Last Jedi Official Teaser Thoughts
MegaSoulhero YEEEEEESSSSS!!!!! The trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi has been released! This weekend in Orlando, they're doing the Star Wars Celebration and today, they live streamed the panel for the Last Jedi which was hosted by Josh Gad of all people. It also featured Kathleen Kennedy, director Rian Johnson, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, and Mark Hamill. They showed the trailer after the panel and honestly, this is quite possibly the best trailer I've seen this year so far.No! I'm not kidding! This was a really great trailer! I know some of you might disagree with me but I really liked it! We see Rey on the island that she arrived on at the end of The Force Awakens when she first met Luke Skywalker. We then hear Luke's voice saying "Breathe. Just breathe." Kind of reminds me of a song. Basically, Luke is training Rey to become a better Jedi. Kind of like how Yoda trained Luke to become a better Jedi. I know this is gonna cause people to say it's a ripoff of Empire Strikes Back but honestly, that kind of plot has been done in a lot of movies. And of course Leia is in the film. We don't see much of her in the teaser and we only see the back of her but she is sad to have a more important role in the movie. R.I.P. Carrie Fisher. There's a part in this trailer where we see the pieces of Kylo Ren's mask that has been destroyed. Which means he will be maskless in this film. Which will actually be pretty cool. Oh and Finn is still recovering from the events of Episode 7. Hopefully he isn't unconscious for too long in the movie. Poe Dameron and BB-8 are shown running to an X-Wing but it gets blown up. And that is actually a pretty cool shot. My absolute favorite part of the trailer is Captain Phasma! I am so glad she is back! And it looks like she will actually do stuff in this movie! The trailer ends with Luke saying "It's time for the Jedi to end" giving us some suspense and that's the Last Jedi teaser!
A lot of people are complaining that this trailer doesn't show a lot. But I actually like that it doesn't show a lot! It's called a teaser for a reason. It's just giving us a feel of what we are going to see in the movie and doesn't really give us info about the story. From the looks of things, this will be a lot darker than The Force Awakens. It will be great to see Luke act like a mentor towards Rey. Rey was already pretty strong with the force in Episode 7 but she still has a lot to learn. Phasma appearing in the trailer is what got me the most excited! A lot of people had a problem with her not being included that much in the previous film, but it seems like she'll have her time to shine here! That space battle that they showed looks fantastic! Looks like it might be a great movie! Unlike a lot of people, I loved the Force Awakens! I know it's a soft reboot of A New Hope, but that doesn't make it a bad movie. Just look at the Indiana Jones sequels and Finding Dory. And the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequel will be a soft reboot of the previous films. And as for Rogue One, when I first saw the movie, I thought it was great! But after watching it again, I didn't really care for it that much. It was basically a cash-in on people's nostalgia. Just like a certain Disney movie that came out last month. My only problem with this trailer however is that half of it is black screen! I'm okay with black screen in trailers to make it look cool, but they do it WAY too much here! They show one shot, then black screen, another shot, then black screen, another shot, and once again, black screen! The trailer is very cool but that just got annoying very fast.
I am very excited for The Last Jedi! Since I really liked The Force Awakens, I'm glad we get to see those characters again! It's not the action that makes a Star Wars film so good. It's the characters. Which is one of the reasons why Rogue One wasn't very great. Sure, the action was cool but the characters were bland! Last Jedi is one of the movies I'm looking forward to the most this year! Right next to Thor: Ragnarok! Can't wait for December!
