Movie Review - Guardians of the Galaxy

MegaSoulhero Well there's only one month until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out! So I am going to review the first one. Guardians of the Galaxy is the 10th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the 4th film in Phase 2. Before I saw this movie, I didn't think I was going to like it. But when I saw it, I LOVED it!

The character, Peter Quill, gets abducted by aliens as a kid after his mother dies and basically becomes an outlaw in the galaxy. He meets a few other characters and they eventually become a team to defeat a villain. It's a pretty silly film but it knows it's silly. And that is one of the things I like the most about this movie! This is one of the more comedic Marvel films. The humor is VERY hilarious! Out of all the MCU films, I laughed the most during this one! Every single joke was very good! This movie is aware of its silliness and has a lot of fun with it. Each character really stands out. Peter Quill aka Star-Lord is a brave and determined guy and he's almost as cool as Han Solo. Gamora is a very sexy green chick who's very tough. She's seems to be the most serious one in the group. Drax is a very awesome character! Dave Bautista has some great acting skills! Groot, played by Vin Diesel, is some kind of tree monster type thing and all he can say is "I Am Groot". He has such great scenes and is hilarious! I honestly didn't expect myself to care about the character that much! But the absolute best character in the film is Rocket! Where do I begin with talking about how awesome this character is!? He plays by his own rules, he is a master with weapons, and he has the best lines! Rocket and Groot are probably one of the best duos in movie history!

As far as action goes, it is outstanding! The visual effects are top notch! I really love the designs of these different areas! They look so real and are very beautiful to look at! This is a very well written film! There wasn't a single boring moment! The cinematography is excellent and I was very invested in the plot! And despite the amount of humor, there are actually quite a lot of emotional moments. I actually kind of shed a tear near the end of the movie. It does a great job at being both serious and humorous. However, a pretty big complaint I have with the film is the villain, Ronan. He is such a forgettable villain! And that's a problem with a lot of Marvel movies. The villains aren't usually interesting or memorable. Not only that, but one thing that really frustrated me was that Ronan was about to destroy Xandar but he gets easily distracted by Peter's dancing. What? Seriously? What kind of menacing villain gets distracted by something like that? But that didn't ruin the movie for me, and to be fair it kind of got a laugh out of me.

Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my favorite films in the MCU! It has great characters, great effects, great cinematography, great humor, and has a very well written script! A very exhilarating experience and exciting throughout! I just wish the villain was a lot better. But overall, it is a very awesome movie!

Score: 9/10

Just a heads up, next month I will be reviewing the first four Pirates of the Caribbean films before the fifth one comes out. I'll also be reviewing both of the Planes films next month, and on April 25th, I'll be reviewing La La Land. I'll explain why in that review.
