WHY IS THIS SONG NOT EVEN ON THIS LIST? Yeah, almost ALL of Green Day's songs are amazing, but seriously, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield is bliss. It sums up teenage angst, alienation, rebellion, and everything else every teen has experienced before with catchy guitar riffs, a good bassline, and a nice drum pattern. This song is even better live on AAF. The lyrics are epic, the melody is great. This should at least be in the top 20's, if not on the top 10's. LISTEN TO IT AND FALL IN LOVE. - IdioticKilljoy
This song has such a catchy beat, and it sums up the struggles of teenage angst, alienation, and other problems that at some point any teenager can relate to. Why is it not even on the list? The melody and the lyrics are amazing... And I can't seem to get tired of listening to this song.
Laugh out loud, its in position 69... Wait a minute it should be number 1! Best song of the early years and has a super catchy chorus and killer guitar and bass riffs. Billie's vocals are spot on as always. The first time I heard this song was on Awesome As F*, but its still a really awesome song!
This is the best song on Kerplunk. Hands down. This should be on the soundtrack to Catcher In The Rye if they ever make a new movie. This is even Billie's favourite from Kerplunk.V 4 Comments
Love this song so much. Should be ranked higher in my opinion. Great rhythm and chorus. AMAZING song.
Great punk lyrics then an explosive power guitar ending. Classic Green Day.
F.O. D if you didn't vote for this songV 3 Comments
What a song should be number 10 or number 13 amazing guitar bass and drums really good in rock band Green Day get voting for this song peoplke it rocks it may not be the best song that Green Day made but it is still a good song to be up near the top not down at number 45 - mneilan
Great tune, Great Lyrics, fast, should be at top 10
Love This Song Please Vote For This Song It Should Be Way way Higher Up Than Being So Low Down - mneilanV 2 Comments
Why was this song not on the list? It's a great song from the earlier times of Green Day's career and really deserves to be on the list
One of Green Days trademark early songs. This song sums up their sucess they were going to to shortly recieve afterwards. Green Day FOR LIFE!
Brilliant both musically and lyrically. "Well I throw away my past mistakes and contemplate my future." Should be in the top 5.
Fell in love with this song when I was digging up all the information on Green Day back in the early 90's.V 9 Comments
Shut your mouth because your talking too much and vote for this song anyway! ;D
Such a good song man, just awesome, love it and never get bored of it at all
Its like aftr listening to this record.. I was so relieved.. The old Green Day is finally back.. Also the guitar playing and drums have turned more amazing that ever.. Green Day totally rocks..
'Shut your mouth dos y'a talking to much and I don't give a damn anyway' best opening lyrics to any song and sums up school lifeV 7 Comments
Amazing song! And when it starts after Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, it feels soothing.
How is this at number 85? This is the best one!
Definitely in the top ten green day songs! Each element of the song comes in at a different time, like Longview, but it is such a beautiful song about uncertainty, the perfect followup to BoBD. The lyrics are succinct, but each phrase has a strong meaning. Need I mention BJ's heartfelt performance on Bullet in a Bible?V 2 Comments
The beauty of this song is it's appeal to any generation. It immediately appeals to the younger kids with its punchy riff and in-your-face lyrics but you appreciate it more as you grow older. It's a self-reflective coming to grips with growing older song but with a punk rock attitude. "I was a young boy that had big plans, now I'm just another s***** old man" and "Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals, I had a young and optimistic point of view" sum up the son and pretty much every 20-something's life that is listening to it. One of Green Day's hidden treasures.
I LOVE this song, to me, it's one of the best songs on Nimrod, and maybe the best in general!
I had an young and optimistic point of view...
The best Green Day song by far. Love the guitar solo and the meaningful lyrics. I can't stop listening to this song. Love it.
Awesome song, have listened to it more than a 1000 times and can't get sickV 5 Comments
A great song by Green Day. what is it doing all the way down here? first listen to it and then you will see what I mean when I say it is good. it's a terribly underrated song; deserves to be much higher up in the list, at least in the top 15.
I can't even begin do describe how I felt when 21st Century Breakdown came out. I never thought anything in the world would push Nimrod off my top stop, but the energy and sincerity that this album (and THIS SONG in particular) produced is going to be hard to top.
Green Day will always be important to those who see music for what it is, a fun and expressionistic way to get through tough times, rather than:
"BUT (X) CAN SHRED FASTER THAN (Y), DERP, IT'S SO OBVIOUS"
Green Day, please continue to destroy competition musicians.
This is just an awesome song. Especially the solo, I love the bridge too :D whenever I listen to this, I can't help just going to my Windows Media Player and turn it all up :D This is definitely the best song Green Day ever made, in my opinion.
Death to the girl at the end of the serenadeV 5 Comments
Number 68? What the heck? This song is one of the best on insomniac. I'm sorry but the top ten are pretty much all American idiot hits. Don't get me wrong, I love that album but that's ridiculous.
Great song, great bass, great drums, great guitar, singing, EVERYTHING! The best Green Day song off of the best Green Day album!
This song is catchy and real punk rock. At least this song is so meaningful for me.
Amazing bass riffs. This is my favorite Green Day song off of my favorite Green Day album. Should be number 1!V 1 Comment
AWESOME Song by Green Day...
Just listen to it...
Will definitely reach top 10 in matter of time...
The Intro Music Kills it! - shouryat2b
Laugh out loud! It wasn't even on the list. Blah blah blah. Check it out. It's pretty cool. - nikhilchoudhary
How can this song be so long it is amazing and should be in the top 10 at least. If this was on American idiot it would be in the position it deserves.
I just love the line where it says cut me a line of my best friends ashesV 2 Comments
I love this song, it should definitely be higher than this! Also, 'Scattered' should be on this list too, and near the top! Awesome songs!
Man, I would walk into school listening to this song on my walkman... *tEARS*V 1 Comment
It should be ILLEGAL that this song isn't number one. How the hell is Boulevard Of Broken Dreams number one? I'll tell you how, because it is basically a pop song, and it had big mainstream success. Real Green Day fans will know that their best songs were their older ones. Okay, Jesus of Suburbia is the best of their new songs... Its just amazing, But Christie Road is the best of their songs full stop. Before you vote for American Idiot and 21 guns, listen to Christie Road; Its pure beauty. Well done Green Day for writing such an epic song. I never tire of hearing it.
I love this song. Why is this all the way down in the 30s and GD's newer stuff dominating the top? I love most, if not all, of their music but their older stuff is definitely the best. Kerplunk is an awesome album!
Beauty of song that puts the era when this song was released into perspective
This song is ultimately based on a teen or childhood story...sounds awesome live.V 1 Comment
Amazing song this needs to be way higher!
Since I first heard this song its became my favourite one. The lyrics and meaning for this song are amazing as well.
For me its their best song, the meaning of it and the lyrics, hooked from the very first moment I listened to it!
The first Uno, Dos, Tre song that appears on This list #37 - Alex151V 13 Comments
One of Green Day's saddest songs. Also it's so good. - gothictomboy66
I THINK THIS SONG IS A MASTERPIECE. THIS SONG IS LIKE AN ANTHEM TO Green Day THAT IS CHEERFUL AND PATRIOTIC, MOST ADDICTIVE SONG EVER, THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME.
Drop out, drop dead hideous, how low is this Brutal Love? - Alex151
That is the first song I heart of this fantastic bandV 1 Comment
This is a great song the intro reminds me of the who I think Green Day gets a lot of its inspiration from the who, then "the world is a sick machine breeding a massive s***" hahaa great stuff!
I think this song needs to be higher, not like classics like welcome to paradise, or she or longview, but this song it's much better than a 53, it's CRAZY, in a song
My favorite Green Day song. a long, epic, 2 minute intro-then all hell breaks loose.
WHAT! This song is the root to the punk rock world! (next to basket case) This is my favorite Green Day song, and favorite punk rock song, and my favorite song PERIOD. This song is even better than last night on earth.
Awesome song... Used to love the brain stew jaded video where this part kicked In was crazy loved the 90's and all the people are voting must be the kids or something where are the old Green Day songs that should be up there
Am I the only person that likes this song better than brain stew?
What the hell is this doing at 86?! This song is DEADLY! The energy of it is just EXTREME.V 1 Comment
I love the whole Jinx/Haushinka mix, I love singing along and I hear this off the album Nimrod It deserves so much more votes since I really understand the meaning
Best Green Day song is Haushinka, hands down, tied with Letterbomb though.
Just everything about this song shows how much better the first 2 albums really are, not that the new ones are bad or anything, the early stuffs just on another level, feel sorry for 90% of green day fans that haven't even heard the old songs, because I guarantee if they gave it a chance they would like it 5x more than songs like american idiot.
