The Contenders: Page 11
This songwriting team from Australia wrote so many hits. For the own group in the 60's The Easybeats and for my other artist. Some of these songs - Friday On My Mind -St. Louis - Good Times - Evie " let your hair hang down " - Love Is In the Air
Listen to his OLD albums. I Feel For You, Nothing Compares to U, Sugar Walls. These were by him. Not to mention Vanity 6, the Timeand his own albums.
Not a big fan of Country music but how can you NOT have him on this listV 1 Comment
Some the BEST lyrics I have ever listened to.
Just listen to some Parliament/Funkadelic albums. Some of the best lyrics EVER!
Evil Woman, Can't Get It Out of Head... Some of his latter stuff not so great but the older stuff was awesome!
Can write some beautiful songs
He should be higher on this list.
Jared Leto is the best lyricist right now. -.-
Should be far, far higher - definitely the thinking man's punk!
His lyrics are versatile and utterly brilliant. Very intellectual (sometimes disturbingly so) vibe to most of his songs.
"It's a chain store massacre, bodies lying everywhere, those with the biggest clout, punch the independents out, we're spied on, herded round, stranded in the underground, abandoned with our happy meal inside a ring of steel. It's disturbing, but it's working, I don't fit in to a clone town. Where the faceless, tasteless get rich quick, we're too busy shopping to notice the apocalypse, fuming in the rat runs, no-one's having any fun, the streets are paved with chewing gum, my mind is going numb. It's disturbing, but... Where all we know is what they tell us, nothing slipping through the censors, manifactured satisfaction, war reduced to pure abstraction, too confused to take a stand, imprisoned in a promised land, predictable, repetitive and bland and do you really want to know how they get those prices so low? It's disturbing, but it's working, I don't fit in to a clone town."
This speaks for itself!
"... And then I told my story to the cannibal king, he said 'shake that thing', go and see the frogmen and tell him all your troubles, take your umbrella, 'because he keeps on blowing bubbles. Come up and let me analyse you, said the monkey to the weasel and I paint your picture on the wall if you can buy the easel...". He's written many more witty, meaningful, quite profound lyrics mainly, but that's one of the funniest and most surreal ever.
