Mike Portnoy is easily one of the best drummers of all time. He brings technically to drumming much like Neil Peart from Rush did but he brings up a notch. He is such a good drummer he could play a whole setlist on just a Hello Kitty Drumset and still be awesome at it.

Obviously the number 1, his drumming is one of the things that make this band excellent along with John Petrucci's guitar playing, ever since he left Dream Theater they haven't been as good as they once were.
