Best Tomb Raider Games
The Top Ten
Well I can't say that the game is bad, it's a good game. But it definitely is not a Tomb Raider. Not at all. It is completely action-based and I hate this. For the gods sake why would you screw up a series like this? There is already lots of action games out there but the original Tomb Raider series are unique. If you want to make an action game, go make it no one ever stops you but don't give that game the name of Tomb Raider. Well since they got the rights of it, we will probably never going to see an another original Tomb Raider game..
The reboot of the Tomb Raider series is absolutely stunning! The new image of Lara Croft is absolutely incredible! Less computerised action hero and more realistic game character almost real. I have to admit, when I first played it, I wasn't too keen on all the action in it and getting killed so many times during the combat fights, but its such a breathtaking and awesome game! I love how you can upgrade your weapons at campsites. My favourite weapon is the bow and arrow. You can be in a tree and do a headshot at an enemy.
I am playing this and just blown away at what is clearly the definitive Tomb Raider experience. I know a lot of folks don't like that this TR is a killing machine.. but this is a girl on an island where everyone is trying to kill her and she is moulded by it. Never has a game made me wince and feel the beating that Lara takes throughout this action packed 'is it a movie or a game' experience.
Riveting. Engaging. Realistic. Fun. Those are the words I would use to describe this masterpiece. Great characters, challenging gameplay, dynamic environments, lots of Collectibles, fun Multiplayer, the list goes on and on. Get this game!
Gameplay, exploration, puzzles, and everything you loved from the original returns. However, this time Lara acquires vehicles, new outfits, bigger gun arsenal, and new moves such as climbing. Also, this sequel features outdoor environments and better lighting effects. Lara is now able to use flares. The training mode aka Lara's Home is much improved over the original. This sequel is more action packed and this might disappoint fans of the original, which settled more on isolation, exploration, and puzzles. This sequel is still worthy and just as good if not better than the original.
All is epic in this game. Tomb Raider II kept the quality of the first game, with graphics a little better and better gameplay. Unlike Tomb Raider III, which has begun to be "more of the same", it was hard as hell to the point of discouraging and had an extremely confusing level design, Tomb Raider II had a difficulty in the right tone and really refreshing levels: just remember Venice, Opera House, the wrecket ship Maria Doria. And The level design in Tomb Raider II was more simple and more crazy, and that's why it was so good. To finish, the wreck of Mary Doria is my favorite Tomb Raider levels of all time.
I grew up watching my dad play this, then slowly daring to play it myself. It was such a scary game to me as a little girl. Now it is my all time favorite. Some levels still scare the crap out of me after all these years though (like the floating islands! )
Best game ever. You were not being coached through the levels like the new games where you may as well just watch a movie. Challenging and rewarding when completed. Better control system than the first with a more intuitive jump.
I may be a tad biased as this is the only tomb raider game I have ever completed but that's one of the reason I love it so much I tried playing anniversary and underworld but anniversary got boring quickly due two the lack of alister and zip providing funny dialogue for Lara to make witty comments on and underworld got rather hard and I wasn't interested enough in completing it that once I got stuck I never got round to continuing. I also recently discovered that we have tomb raider II for pc but I haven't been motivated to play it yet. Now on to legend itself Legend has everything I want in an adventure game. Witty dialogue. Interesting story. Flashbacks. Challenging levels. Challenging boss battles. Not too long that the challenge gets a bit too challenging. Some sort of glitchy ness. That one bit in the Peru level that scared me to death. And of course SUPER EPIC MOTORBIKE THINGAMAJIGS :D
Okay, this game saved TR's butt! After The Angel of Darkness, you're lucky to have such a great game. This was the first TR game I have ever played, so it has a lot of nostalgia to it, too. I didn't grow up with Core, but for a reboot, this was pretty good. I'm sure Core's was awesome, too. But, this game carries a lot of nostalgia. Unlike the 2013 game, this was the best reboot ever.
I was 5 years old when this game came out! I used to play it for hours everyday and I was so little but I still knew exactly what to do! It is a very challenging game with a lot of puzzles, yet very action packed and thrilling! This will always be the best one!
This is the first tomb raider game I ever played when I was like seven sure I was terrible but it was still amazing. I've got the trilogy now and I'm much better and I completed it a while back. I've only played tomb raider 7, 8, 9 and 10 and this is the best one by far
I enjoyed the lack of human interaction, the stunning environments, Which had real world historical references, the easy to hard progressive puzzels and the feeling that most of the time you were alone. It was rather spooky but fun. Todays tomb raiders are full of noisy people, too much swearing, press one button to kill-save whatever, silly, over the top music in almost every fight ( Oh dear god... It's a WOLF! ) and super-monkey-action Lara. They just don't compare to this old but thourghly enjoyable classic.
Some pleople prefer tomb raider 2. Tomb raider 2 may have better graphics, and some new features like riding a ice moto, but the first tomb raider is the real "tomb raider". On tomb raider 2 you kill alots of humans and I think this is not as real as 1st one. The 1 is based on exploration of tombs like the name says, I feel 1st looks like the original adventure.
Best Tomb Raider by far! It actually had tombs in it and it felt like you need skill to finish it, not like these half hearted games these days..
Lara Crofts glory days. Tombs in jungles traveling to Peru. Mind-Wrenching puzzles. Hidden Secrets. This game by far surpasses all others
This is the remake of tomb raider 1 which means it is better than the 1st game I think people don't know that this is first games remake.
Remake of the first game done really well sticking to the original but enhancing in almost every aspect. control, gameplay, graphics, and puzzles
Anniversary is a real sour game of the franchise it's nowhere near as good as the core design games.
Great game and fun to play! It's nice to be able to revisit TR1 with all the trimmings of an improved system
Easily the best of at least the classic era, with maybe argument for 2 or even the original. The best looking PS1 Tomb Raider game, the best gameplay, the longest, the most involved with its story, it's everything I could ask for when it comes to a Tomb Raider adventure.
I think this game is what Tomb Raider supposed to be. Little action, full of puzzles, magnificent buildings which makes it fun to hang around and explore, high difficulty (difficulty makes every game more fun), places are almost a copy of real ones and of course dual guns and boobs :)
It would be great if they make a new Tomb Raider by taking this game as a reference. Just think about it, everything that makes this game great stays and they improve many stuff.
I'm still playing it and still having so much fun
It's a great tomb raider game, is the only tomb raider that could be the one in 1996 because try to come back to the roots always in egipt its fell very real and grounded moving from tombs to tombs like the original this fell lacks in 2 and 3 and 5 because that ones are more action oriented.
TR4 is very puzzle and little action, but exceeds in expanding the elementes of the first one in every way and suspense its incredible dificult to this day, I recomend after the original.
Tomb Raider at its finest. Heavy focus on exploration through ancient temples and tombs with an intriguing enough story to keep players invested, great characterization from Lara Croft herself, great FMV cutscenes, and a wonderful atmosphere to compliment the sharp level design.
This was my first proper PC game by usual people's standards (My first was the Croc series). I absolutely loved the game, besides being according to most people, the toughest raider (that retained its fans, at least) especially in the level 'southern Mexico'.
I was really disappointed by this short, unpolished conclusion to the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider Trilogy. It seemed rushed. The one big thing this game does have going for it is, the few levels its has, are vast and complex... very fun to explore.
I was gonna but the next game but after this game, it was alright but I think I'm done buying the Tomb Raider Games. I'm starting to get addicted to Call of Duty. I also like Angel of Darkness by the way.
Tomb raider underworld is a really piece of garbage game.
Beautifully diverse from India to London and more. Fantastic game play, quick loading after dying! And save/load game exactly where you want. TR3 is where I fell in love with Lara, beautiful music and with scenery more lush and atmospheric than more modern games such as TR Underworld (also very good). Later games have better resolution with more powerful machines but a pixelated environment at 320 pixel resolution can provide a more engaging world if it has better artwork, angles, movement and levels. The TR3 world is also so huge and provides a massive amount of interaction with people/things giving a real and great sense of exploration. My best TR to date (just about to start 2013 game).
This is my favorite in the series. To me, it's the pinnacle of Lara.
She's got the perfect moveset in this game. I love how the levels travel to many different locations, keeping things fresh. I will always come back to this timeless classic.
This is one of the best Tomb Raider games. It's what kept the series going in my opinion. This game is better than the "new" Tomb Raiders and really puts exploration and puzzle solving first.
TR3 is the best game ever a million times better than the newer games.
It's like 2013, but better. Beautiful, great story, and the plot revolved around actually raiding tombs! Loved 2013 too though...
The sequel to 2013 Tomb Raider is absolutely awesome! The Lara Croft we knew and loved is back!
This is better than Tomb Raider 2013
Similar to TR 2013 but better
Chronicles is great too much better than crystal dynamics.
Chronicles is perfect and much better than the newer games.
Nice game and a very nostalgic play through for the days of the PS1
BEST EVER TOMB RAIDER GAME! The voice acting is phenomenal! Especially from Earl Bryton who voices Jonah, such a great actor! And Camilla Luddington was brilliant once again as Lara Croft. The storyline is amazing! The graphics are phenomenal! The tombs are deadlier and bigger, and a lot more swimming, which I love!
Best stealth mechanics, narrative, gameplay, puzzles and much more
This is the only one I have played so I will say it is the best
I still love this game. No matter how bad it is, how buggy it is, how much missed potential is stewing around in this melting pot of over ambition, I'm always brought in and enjoy the games visuals, the objectively amazing OST, Lara herself, the slower paced gameplay, the locations, and even some aspects of the albeit messy story. This game is not very good, I can never deny that to any extent. Is it terrible? I don't think so. Is it even bad? Honestly, if you think so, I'm not about to argue, but I've always loved this game. It sure as Hell isn't a pretty part of Tomb Raider's history, but it's *my* part of Tomb Raider's history that isn't pretty, dammit!
Probably one of the best story lines ever to be created by Tomb Raider, It is so underrated, I understand the gameplay didn't it justice, but the game story was the best storyline ever created, got me hooked, should be a movie.
It's not perfect, but still good. If it had been finished it would have been epic. Seriously look up what it was supposed to be. It would have been amazing.
If this game was newer, it would be nearer the top. Fantastic story and lovely gameplay for its time.
I recently beat the main adventure on this game and it is adorable. It has really spectacular puzzles that were fairly challenging and fun. The turn-based aspect was a cool feature that amped up the puzzle difficulty to an interesting level. And the graphics are neat. The low-poly looks really cool also. I unlocked a classic outfit for Lara and she has her original circular shades on and it’s so cute.
