21 Neurosis Neurosis Neurosis is a post-metal band, based in Oakland, California. They formed in 1985 as a hardcore punk band, and their sound progressed towards a doom metal style that also included influences from dark ambient and industrial music as well as incorporating elements of folk music.
22 Cannibal Corpse Cannibal Corpse Cannibal Corpse is a American death metal band from Buffalo, New York, formed in 1988 . The band is known for their graphic album covers, explicitly violent lyrics and song titles like "I C** Blood" The group got into mainstream after performing the song "Hammer Smashed Face" in the 1994 film Ace Ventura: more.

Cannibal Corpse is gory, yes, but I would actually say bands like KoRn and Joy Division are darker, because their lyrics can apply to people living with abuse and depression. Cannibal Corpse lyrics are like a horror movie, while Joy Division and KoRn lyrics are more like a suicide note, so which one is darker?

Have you seen their album art? It's enough to make you puke your guts out.

Not scary at all. Very bland radio rock with brutal death metal elements. Might as well say Nickelback is the darkest band ever.

There are much more darker bands out there - Metalmaniakkk

A really Anti-Christian band. But they're surprisingly not devil worshipers.

25 Three Days Grace Three Days Grace Three Days Grace is a Canadian rock band formed in Norwood, Ontario in 1997 with a line-up consisting of guitarist and lead vocalist Adam Gontier, drummer and backing vocalist Neil Sanderson, and bassist Brad Walst.

Not dark as in scary, but more like dark as in depressing.

You wanna know how depressing their music truly is? Listen to anything off of their self titled debut album and One-X or Life Starts Now and you'll see why they deserve to be on here.

Their darkest songs (in my opinion) are Animal I Have Become, It's All Over, World So Cold, Get Out Alive, Scared, and Overrated.

They're super good at putting emotion in their music. You can really feel the hard feeling in the melody of their songs.

Marilyn Manson is way more darker than Ozzy Osbourne. Really.

The Antichrist Superstar as he is referred to.

Not a metal band.

Some of his antichrist superstar stuff was dark, other than that really is just shock. Still one of my favourite bands, though.
One of his darker/dissonant songs is Tourniquet.

30 Tool Tool Tool is an American progressive metal/alternative metal band, that was formed in 1990. more.

Hiding in the shadows, that's where Tool hides! You probably haven't heard of it, but when you hear them, the truth is revealed! These guys are some of the darkest here, much darker then My Chemical Romance and Slipknot for sure!

Songs like Schism, Prison Sex, Jimmy, Right in Two, and Pushit are all extremely dark and depressing

Surprised these guys are so low on the list

I wouldn't quite call muse a dark band. However, they do indeed have their dark moments (Space Dementia, Apocalypse Please, Hysteria etc)

30 Seconds to Mars above this maniac?! Lmao, Listen to The Tenth Sublevel of Suicide and you will all see that Leviathan deserves top ten, along with Silencer - Metalmaniakkk

This band has created the darkest music ever.

38 The Doors The Doors The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore.

The Doors are one of the fist bands that brought darkness into the picture. Listen to "The End" and you'll know what I mean.

The Doors of Perception, Morrison does have plenty of darkness in his poetry

39 Throbbing Gristle Throbbing Gristle Throbbing Gristle were an English music and visual arts group formed in 1976 in Kingston upon Hull. The band comprised Genesis P-Orridge, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson and Chris Carter.
