Top 10 Best Survival Horror Video Games
World's best game, really! Its storyline is so awesome! I've never seen such amazing storylines!
I like Shattered Memories, Origins, and the new one, Downpour. It's really freaky, but at the same time, it's interesting because once you start playing it, you want to finish it so badly. Damn.
Amnesia is by far the scariest video game ever. You control a character with amnesia who must navigate a castle with no weapons. The only thing he can do is run and hide from the Gatherers that seem to be constantly appearing. You do have a lantern, but the light attracts monsters. However, without it, your character will slowly go insane and hallucinate crazy sights and sounds.
You have to really play the game to understand how it can affect the amount of sleep you get at night! It is a terrifying horror experience that truly deserves the top spot.
Set in the 26th century, players are sent on a mission to rescue two mining ships in the far reaches of the galaxy. However, their ship is damaged while trying to dock, and the discovery of alien life forces them to fight their way out against Necromorphs, which are deceased humans that have been animated by a mysterious alien organism.
Pretty difficult, but it's the best! No doubt.
The original was good, RE4 is completely overrated, and RE2 was a fine game, but the Remake is awesome. Keeping everything the same but improving the quality, Resident Evil for the GameCube is the greatest survival horror game I've ever played.
Best remake ever.
It's a shame RE2 and 3 remakes are RE4 clones.
Best in the series.
RE4 is not survival horror. It's a third-person action game with horror elements sprinkled in.
I don't think BioShock is horror, so I'm not voting for it. This game, however, is amazing. It even beats The Last of Us!
Nobody can add to the conversation about what makes this game so special. Truly one of the all-time greats!
The makers of this game were unheard of until this masterpiece was released on PC. The vibe of the game is brilliant. While it may not be the best, especially after playing Frictional Games' Amnesia: The Dark Descent, it still keeps you looking over your shoulder for most of the game. Unlike most horror games, the fear doesn't just come from jump scares. There are some pretty disturbing things, especially if you don't have a strong stomach for gore and torture. The worst part - and I'm not spoiling anything - is when you're in the lair of "The Man Downstairs," who has some strange tastes, in the DLC Outlast: Whistleblower.
On the subject of the DLC, it is worth playing just as much as the first game. For me, if a game's gameplay is good, its graphics don't have to be top-notch. However, in Outlast, the graphics are beautiful. The shadows work perfectly, the enemies chasing you move smoothly, fire looks excellent, and the faces are as realistic as anything. One thing they've done perfectly is the main character's body. The hands are almost lifelike. While climbing, you see the correct parts of the body instead of your shoulder, for example. You can even leave footprints when treading in blood. It all works perfectly and makes for a horror game with great potential.
The story works well, and after playing the game and its DLC, everything slots together without any moments of thinking, "Hang on, what about...?" If I were you, I'd be looking out for games made by Red Barrels because they know what they're doing when making a game. Thank you.
It's not like most survival horror games. You use a camera as a weapon to fight ghosts. Strongly recommend this.
The Newcomers
Dead Space 1 is a perfect horror game in all aspects: atmosphere, action, combat, story, monsters, variety of gameplay, and characters. Then Dead Space 2 came along and was even better than the first.
Why isn't Alone in the Dark number 1?
This is the game that popularized the genre. Sure, it hasn't aged well, mostly due to the voice acting and dialogue, but it was a revolutionary game in 1996.
The spine-tingling tension of F.E.A.R. puts it near the top of the list of the scariest games. A mysterious paramilitary force and eerie interruptions of radio communications are just the beginning of this terrorizing supernatural storyline, which will give you more scares than a horror movie!
Clock Tower is one of the first horror games, and it's really scary for me - a lot better than Silent Hill and with a very macabre story.
Siren was banned due to the content in the game. It is such a good game, and it's a pity that you can't buy it anymore.
This game is one of the darkest, hardest, and most realistic of all time. The story is very incredible and sick.
Scared the crap out of me in every corner!
