Top 10 Best Video Game Sequels

Sometimes, a sequel comes along that doesn't just follow up on the original - it completely redefines what the series can be. These are the games that take everything great about their predecessors and turn the dial up to 11. Maybe they introduce groundbreaking mechanics, refine the storytelling, or expand the game world in ways that make you wonder how the original ever felt complete.

Whether it's a fresh take on a beloved franchise or a direct continuation of a story you couldn't get enough of, these sequels earned their place by giving players an experience worth revisiting again and again.
The Top Ten
Super Mario Galaxy 2

It gave us everything we loved from the original and more! It didn't change much because there was no need!

Made a glorious game more glorious.

This game is AWESOME!

Half-Life 2

Set the bar as high as possible for first-person PC shooters and solidified Valve as the gaming giant it is today.

This is the best game ever made! How can it not be the best sequel?

This is the greatest sequel known to man, come on!

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Should be the best game of all time.

Super Smash Bros. Melee
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Super Mario Bros. 3

Yes, the second-best Mario game next to Super Mario 64.

Batman: Arkham City

A sequel to a video game no one thought was going to be good but did okay. The sequel dives even further. It ups the combat, has a great story, and the bosses are cool. Solomon Grundy is cool as hell, Riddler is challenging, and Joker is menacing, but you all know Mr. Freeze is still the king.

Just epic. Undoubtedly my favorite video game of all time and one of the best Batman stories ever.

Not only one of the best sequels of all time but also one of the best overall games ever.

Resident Evil 4

Are you kidding me? This is a good game, also the best game in the series, and one of the greatest games of all time. It is up there, snooping around with Ocarina of Time, Half-Life 2, and the Super Mario Galaxy games.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Halo 2

The Newcomers

? Team Fortress 2

The greatest shooter.

? Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The Contenders
Pokémon Gold and Silver

100 new additions to the game. Improved color graphics. Tons of fewer glitches. An entire new region. 18 gym badges. A fantastic rival and new features. You fight yourself from the first game. Enough said.

This game was made by 4 people in under a year. Beat that.

Fallout: New Vegas
Assassin's Creed II
Mass Effect 2
Kingdom Hearts II

Slightly better than the first one, but it's about a tie for me.

Silent Hill 2
Halo 3

Perfect end to a perfect series.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Chrono Cross
Tomb Raider: Legend
Portal 2

Just like Half-Life 2, this is another Valve sequel that carried its respective first game to greater heights.

HOW IS THIS NOT AT LEAST 3RD?! This is the most perfect sequel anyone could ever play.

Banjo-Tooie

Banjo-Tooie is everything that made Banjo-Kazooie great and more. Every single aspect of the original has been improved upon, with delightfully well-designed mechanics, levels, and gameplay. With a much steeper difficulty curve, Rareware's lesser-known masterpiece is the definition of what great video game sequels should be.
