Please never make any foolish comparison with this Living Legend, If anybody want to see Natural Acting, or any other prominent actors in India wished to learn various levels of acting, just watch his some movies. I am damn sure that you will also have the Same opinion as me... No one is comparable with Mohan Lal, our Lalettan... Best example is Amitabh bachan & Kamal Hasan are two die hard fans of this Personality... The Most Popular Keralite of the Century.
For Amitabh Bachan, he is the finest actor in the country.
For RGV, he is the Robert De Niro of Indian screen.
For Time magazine, he is India's answer to Marlon Brando.
For Kamal Haasan, he is the most flexible actor in India.

He is the first actor to be honored with the prestigious Lieutenant Colonel Post from Indian Army.

Awarded honorary doctorate degree by the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit.

Recipient of Padma Shri & Bharat Awards.

My favourite actors are Robert De Niro and Mohanlal (because in addition to their legendary acting, they are tremendously versatile). e.g. Other Hollywood acting legends (legends, mind you) cannot do comedy with equal ease as serious drama as De Niro does. Same goes for Mohanlal.

Trust me, I've seen a lot of movies, in many languages, and the greatest Indian actor of all time is definitely Mohanlal. Also definitely among the greatest actors of the world of all time. I assure you, its not plain-old hero worship like Shah Rukh Khan, Rajnikanth, Vijay or NTR.

Mohanlal's dialogue delivery, body language, expressions - he is an actor in the absolute true sense of the word.

Coming to Indian actors, Mammootty is a great, but he can never be as good as Mohanlal.

I love the ever-so-versatile Kamal Haasan too, but again, Mohanlal is on a different level.

I really can't say much of Sivaji Ganesan though. It's like he never tried to play a character ...more

He is one of the best actor world ever seen...
All actors in this list are really good, but they have different acting styles. But according to me, the one actor who does acting without any "over acting" is Mohanlal. But I really think we can't compare one's acting with the other one because they are from different part of the world and so their acting differs. For example, Mohanlal and Kamal Hassan are the best actors in India and the roles that they are doing here can't be done by Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, etc. Because of the change in their lifestyles. So according to me they are doing the best with the characters that they are getting yet I will go with the option Mohanlal, because of the widest range of characters he has portrayed.

He is the only actor apart from Kamal Hasan to win national awards 4 times.

Mohanlal is not only an actor but also a fantastic singer who has rendered voice for other actors as well.

If all actors in this world are given a ...more

Mohanlalji is the only phenomenal actor par excellence who is undergoing the enactment of spontaneous acting, which is the rarest style of acting! He is simple superb who perfectly do his acting which will be just exactly the range of acting, not over, not lesser! But he improvises his each shot so that the director get some what great from what he expected to do by mohanlal! He just acts before the action and cut. He can do anything with his so called "bulky" physique. He played a kathakali dancer, a kalari payat guy, a wrestler etc with so much ease! He is a living legend! He is the actor with world standards!

Mohanlal...
Lalettan is the king of INDIAN film industry...
He is the best actor ever...
He will make the best of his level to make a film better and is very much aware of the character and makes his role a lively one...

Also he is the only actor in the world who can make acting even at the tip of his nails...

LALETTAN THE BEST

HE IS AN ACTOR PAR EXCELLENCE. Natural and acting may opposite words. But if you watch his movies you may differ,
WATCH MUKUNTHETTA SUMITHRA VILIKKUNNU FOR THE BODY LANGUAGE. (In police custody. In love letter episode etc. )
WATCH VASTUHARA Film's mood of Humanity is conveys through his presence, sound
Devasuram for Veera RASAM
AYAL KADHA EZHU THUKAYANU for outburst HASYA RASAM
PAKSHE for Soka RASAM that even make us breathless
KEEREDOM for HEIGHT Of Tragedy
MANICHITRA THAZHU
DASARATHAM
YODHA
I stop the counting.
IT IS WORTHLESS the numbers. JUST APPRECIATE IT

See, I love and respect Mammookka a lot, he has worked hard to reach where he is, and his discipline is something we all can learn from. But to say that he is Kerala's best actor, better than Mohanlal, would be sheer blasphemy. No actor in India is as good as Mohanlal, leave alone Kerala - not even Mammootty, Kamal and Naseeruddin. You might say that Mammootty has 3 national awards. But do you think acting is judged by the number of awards one gets? Even Saif Ali Khan has 2 national awards, the same number Mohanlal has. Can he ever be 10% of what Mohanlal is? I have seen people saying Mohanlal retaining the same "mannerisms" in each movie of his. Even Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro retained these so called "mannerisms" of theirs, despite being so-called "method" actors. Pacino stares with eyes wide-open and often shouts, Nicholson always has that drawling voice, Brando mumbled his words and De Niro has those upside-down lips ...more

Look, I first wanna clarify that Robert De Niro is my favourite actor.
But I had to vote again for this guy's sake, I mean, what an effortless actor. Mohanlal delves into his roles and you seem to forget that he's acting. The guy's expressions seem natural, not overt caricatures. Almost all other Indian actors are actually crap next to this guy. SRK is no great actor, Vijay is a load of poop, it's all fan votes.
His recent movies in the past decade were kinda bad and commercialized, but his older movies were gems in their own rights. He deserves to be in the top 10.

PS: Johnny Depp is severely overrated though.

Nothing to comment on this. The characters done by him is the answer for this. His body language is awesome. Who is there in India to act naturally like that legend? If we will observe carefully, we can make out from his acting about his body language. His eye lids, nails... Each and every part of the body is acting. To study how to act, he is the best role model. If he could have born some where out side India and the exposure was more, one oscar was sure for him.

All actors in this list are really good, but they have different acting styles. But according to me, the one actor who does acting without any "over acting" is Mohanlal. India is quite a funny country.. People who are doing fancy dress getting the awards... And these people thinks looks that's matter the most.. In that case the best actor in India is hrithik roshan.. You can't rate mohanlal as an actor unlike others.. Because he is not acting, he s living with that character... I m blessed to be living in his era..

Fantastic actor as well all time hero in Indian film industry... It's foolish the people are overestimate a talent with his physical structure.. He is both versatile with his acting skill and body language. Moreover he is a super dancer, action hero, dialogue master, comedian and etc. Etc. All the actors following their own style of dialogue and other extra punches to show their talent.. But mohanlal the only actor is not showing any extra fittings (except his shoulder style) in his acting jobs..I.E. we like his approach to his job that being do very simply.. HATS OFF LALLETTA...

He is not acting, he is living in films.
These people never seen our lalettan's (MOHANLAL) acting. More famous is not the criteria for acting. MOHANLAL is living in films not acting.
1)MOHANLAL
2)MAMMOOTTY
3)KAMALHASAN
I have seen the movies from Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu. This is my list. I have a request don't mean bollywood is all in film, in bollywood there is only body showing not acting.

He is an actor who does not need to act but it comes from inside. In India I believe he is the best actor whose flexibility lacks in many others. I can bet that some of the roles he has done cannot me redone by anyone in India or from outside... I cannot believe that he is only in the 4th position and surprised to see Vijay in 3rd position.. If you are rating this according to acting then mohanlal and kamal hassan would share the first spot...

One can't compare Indian actors with Hollywood actors... But neverthless mohan lal is one of the finest actors in India if not the best... He and kamal hassan are the only actors to have won 4 national awards... Although I feel mohan lal is the best... He is versatile and natural... And his ease to act in both serious and comical roles is second to none... His acting in vanaprastham in which he performed one of the toughest art forms "kathakali" without any prior knowledge in the art form even astonished a French technician who quoted "He is the man born in the wrong side of the world; if he was from the other country he would have already had an Oscar"...
And I seriously doubt Shahrukh Khans inclusion the list... Mohanlal should be first... And then kamal hasan...

I personally feel that, what mohanlal has done so far in his industry, is really undergraded, he has been underestimated a lot... He has acted in a variety of movie genres, and I don't think there are many people who have not enjoyed his acting, infact I feel that people who don't enjoy his acting don't have a very good taste. This man is extremely flexible, give him any role, and he is no longer mohanlal, he is the character, he just dissolves himself into the character.. This is what makes me feel he is the BEST!

HE IS NOT JUST ACTING HE IS BEHAVING IN FRONT OF CAMERA SO NO ONE CAN BEAT HIM IN ACTING IF you WANNA KNOW MORE ABOUT HIM PLEASE WATCH ONE OF HIS FILM

he is the best and complete actor in the world...
totally natural actor... who can do versatile characters in his own inborn style...

As a fan of world cinema (at least 30 languages I have watched the best movies from) I have to say Mohanlal is incomparable. But I love Tom Hanks movies too. I like Mammootty, Aaamir Khan & Kamal Hassan movies as well. I can understand why Hollywood Actors dominate this page (it's like saying Justin Beiber is a better singer than the millions of divine, celestial singers that have incarnated in India because he has more twitter followers than say a KJ Yesudas or a Hariharan or a KS Chithra etc. ). But why are people like SRK, Sallu and Vijay on this page? Sheer Blasphemy!

He s a excellent and enthusiastic actor... And also not in a film even he's a real hero in real life also

Time Magazine: Lal is India's answer to Marlon Brando. (Time Magazine says about Mohanlal. )

I think what makes Mohanlal great is his supreme flexibility and range.. The naturalness with which he acts and the ease with which he acts is incomparable and amazing.. He can express any emotion with perfection and it looks like he is living as a character.. The most unique quality is his variety of roles without much make up.. Kamalhaasan's variety comes from or helped by the use of heavy makeups..

Lft. Col. Dr. Padmasree. Bharat. MOHANLAL... GOD'S OWN SUPERSTAR... His acting skills are simply speechless... He was not supposed to be born in the eastern world or else fr sure he would have bagged a dozen of oscars... He doesn't act but rather he lives as the character... No wonder why he has a huge mass of fans... Love you LALETTA (lal brother)

I think Lalettan (Mohanlal) should be the topper in the list here. Considering the wide range of character which was able to take up and live like those characters was phenomenal. One of the famous Bollywood director quoted that "Mohanlal doesn't act in front of camera, he just behaves and even his nails will act when START ACTION CAMERA is roared! " He in this blogwebsite he might receive less number of vote because the Mollywood industry is much lesser in strength when compared to Bollywood or Tollywood. But if you watch Mohanlal's movies of later part of 80's & 90's you will definitely rate him high, much above Vijay & SRK. I am not taking out the credibility of Vijay & SRK by quoting this. But I am sure that if you watch the movies and compare the acting skills plus the versatility produced by Mohanlal you will definitely rate him high. MOHANLAL = VERSATILITY at the best!
