Greatest Music Artists of All Timecamp0112 A list explaining the greatest artists placed in order from 10-1 (1 being the greatest).
The Top Ten
Indescribable. So amazing whether you like them or not. They can't be beat. They were the greatest band who ever lived. John and George were no Hendrix at guitar. Paul wasn't any John Enwistle. And Ringo was no Neil Peart! But none of that mattered. At all. They just wrote incredible songs. They didn't need insane guitar solos. They were insane songwriters. The songs this band wrote can not be explained. If you haven't, take a listen to a couple albums by the Beatles. Even if you HATE the Beatles cause your a stubborn baby who likes only rap or like heavy metal, you'll find at least one song that you love by this band. You will be amazed at the talent of each one of these four lads from Liverpool. - camp0112
Putting them atop this list almost seems like a cliche, but a heave emphasis on the word "almost". Does always labeling them as the best musicians of the post-jazz era make them overrated? Absolutely not, because without them, you may very well also have to live in a world without Aerosmith, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Metallica, Nirvana, Oasis (Duh! ), Pink Floyd, Queen, Rush, Bruce Springsteen, U2, The Who, Neil Young, Black Sabbath, The Doors, Deep Purple, Eminem, Genesis, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Prince, The Police, R.E.M., The Talking Heads, Yes, and so on! Along the lines of the songs themselves, you can The Beatles have written everything from what could be considered early heavy metal songs, such as "Helter Skelter" and "I Want You (She's so Heavy)", to more gentle beauties, such as "In My Life" and "Here Comes the Sun", to psychedelic trips such as "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds", (which Paul finally ...more
The Beatles changed the way I look at life. They also inspired me to continue playing music. Every single song on every single album is a rock and roll masterpiece. Some of my favorites include:
Hey Jude, Let It Be, Helter Skelter, Come Together, A Day In The Life, And Your Bird Can Sing, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, I Wanna BE Your Man, It Won't Be Long, Paperback Writer, I Saw Her Standing There, In My Life, and Twist and Shout.

Why on earth would you bump him? Let me tell you why Michael Jackson was the greatest of all time and maybe you'll put him back at number 1. Michael Jackson was a great singer, dancer, songwriter, and composer. He was the total package. Why do you think he's set many records today? He's also very achieved. Till this day, I don't know a more accomplished artist. He has 13 grammies, 8 in one night, 26 American music awards, over 4 presidential awards, over 100 billboard awards, over 100 RIAA awards, and humanitarian awards given most famously by the King of Africa, 2 presidents of the USA, and the Princess of England. He's left an impact on both music and the music industry. He changed music by defining the pop genre eliminating disco. Pop became the genre of the 80s. He's changed the industry by releasing Thriller basically. The album saved the industry, broke racial barriers, setting the standards for music videos, and changing the style of fashion and dance. The album went number 1 in ...more
The most successful entertainer, and most recognizable man on earth, even nearly a decade after his death. Michael Jackson was simply phenomenal, sold records like no tomorrow, broke through all racial barriers, his performances were masterpieces, his dance moves iconic, and his music unmatched in its reach. Famous all over the world from childhood. Over 30 years after it's release and the 1983 Thriller is still the best selling album of all time, and his other albums, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995), all rank among the most successful albums of all time. Jackson received an unmatched amount of celebrity, and in his prime everyone wanted to be like him. His dance has influenced the masses even more than his singing in some ways, and he is widely regarded to be the greatest, and one of the most influential dancers of all time. From his amazingly choreographed music videos such as Thriller, Beat It, Bad, and Smooth Criminal, to outstanding ...more
He is the best. PERIOD. Only white supremacists would think the Beatles are better; these are the same people who voted for Trump, I bet. Well, maybe they're the best for white America, but fortunately, the U.S. is NOT the world. Ask the entire world now who deserves the number one spot, and, undoubtedly, Michael Jackson would be the answer. If anything, they wouldn't even know who/what the Beatles are! There's an obvious reason to that. Michael Jackson's music touched people of all nations, races, ages, religions, etc. Beatles now? Just the US and Europe. I lived overseas as a little girl as my father was active duty in the US Navy and stationed out of the country. I never heard of the Beatles until we returned to the US. And another thing, quit comparing a band to a solo artist. I can guarantee you if the Beatles band broke up, not one of them could achieve everything and all that Michael Jackson accomplished: not a single one of them! Time has proven this already! Michael Jackson ...more
This comment is utter nonsense. People judge people off of their talents. Not their color or any of this. This is like saying saying, if Michael Jackson was #1, "The beatles only bumped down because of those Hillary Black Supremacists." Maybe, if you've thought about it, Beatles are number one because they have more records sold, which means more people like them. - SoldierOfFortune
What how is he not #1? Why are The Beatles #1? He is definitely the greatest of all time.V 192 Comments
Michael jackson! A great singer maybe but took credit for the music! Elvis wasnt that great, queen good, beatles were good as well but led zeppelin were the kings of everything! John bonham best drummer, jimmy page best guitarist, john paul jones maybe not the best but definitely top 5 and can play 11 instruments or something, robert plant, maybe not the best singer but one of them, led zeppelin i, amazing for a debut album, led zeppelin ii, amazing! Every song was perfect, led zeppelin i, takes a while to grow on you but still amazing, led zeppelin iv doesn't even need explaining!, houses of the holy, every song was so good, a really mix in music, physical graffiti, was really great as well!, presence was good not brilliant but saved by in through the out door which was amazing as well! The most underrated artisit ever! Everyone needs to listen to them a few times and you will understand and thank me after trust me!
They are the opposite of underrated. Jimmy Page was a rapist and the band as a whole were pirates when it came to music, they are a cover band with covers that don't fall under fair use. Plus I heard that they used drugs too. I still like their music and would probably like to see them live but the negative things they've done brings them down from great to just good. - Skullkid755
Their improvisation live was amazing, their timing whilst playing live was amazing, John Bonham's drumming was beautiful, John Paul Jones was a great bass guitarist, Robert Plant's vocals were beautiful and Jimmy Page well do I really have to explain why Jimmy Page is so amazing? - Mun
There a great artist you can see why there on the list because there one of the most famous hard rock band or the most famous heavy metal. There really a hard rock band but some people called it a heavy metal artist. They make good songs like Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman), The Ocean, Fool in the Rain, All My Love, Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, Misty Mountain Hop, and like other songs from the album Mothership and more.
Honestly I prefer Robert Plant’s vocals to Michael Jackson’s. Not to mention the immense talent shared between the four. Also... Stairway to Heaven.V 30 Comments
QUEEN IS THE BEST BAND THERE IS. Never will there be a band as great as Queen or even half as great as Queen. This band consisted of 4 gods and one of those gods are now up in heaven singing for the Lord. They had the greatest song in the entire music history. Freddie, John, Roger, and Brian. 4 musical legends that will never be forgotten! QUEEN FOREVER.
Queen is my favorite artist. Bohemian Rhapsody is my favorite song. Nothing will ever be like queen. Queen is the biggest dynamite and laser beam. With out queen the world would not be the same and I will not be the same, I would probably be listening to todays music without queen, they changed my life because each song is a masterpiece.
The Beatles are understandable at number one, they were a phenomenon. I don't agree with Michael Jackson at 2, but he was unique. What really kills me are the Zeppelin fans. Cover bands shouldn't be on any list, especially the ones who steal music and songs and claim them as their own originals. Zeppelin is the MOST overrated band in history. I know it was cool to listen to them in high school to impress your friends, but adults should do a little research to see everything they stole. Queen on the other hand is the whole package; originality, talent, showmanship...they never needed to steal the work of others. RIP Freddie, I hope you and Bowie and send down some heavenly music ASAP! - ByronLee
Freddie is the greatest!V 51 Comments
You can see why I am having then at number 4 because there is the most rock artist. There a great rock artist they made great songs like Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Angie, Jumping jack flash, Wild Horses, There truly are better than The Beatles because there harder. I know there are a lot of other bands harder than The Beatles but The Rolling Stones and happen to be better. The Rolling Stones are just very good. This is the best I can get to explained why I think The Rolling Stones are better than The Beatles. The reason I did not explained why the first 2 I think was better than the Beatles because Alice in Chains are my favorite and people has a different favorite artist and people should not be saying mean things to me why the Beatles are better or completing why there better and keep going on. It is not like there a bad artist there a good artist. I am fine people saying to why they think the Beatles are better than Alice in Chains. ...more
Amazing, The Rolling Stones music make you feel like you can be yourself. I could never really explain why I loved the Stones so much, every time I listened to them I wanted to dance and jump in the air. Watching Mick Jagger dance on stage and how comfortable he was to do any kind of dance and not even care if he was embarrassing himself or not is inspiring. - Mun
They were a huge hit, widely considered as one of the greatest bands ever. They were the "sloppy beatles", but they rocked. - camp0112
They are the worlds' greatest rock and roll band and are still going more than The Beatles! They are extremely popular and sound amazing. They should be number 1 on every list because they ARE #1!V 12 Comments
I don't mind The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Led Zeppelin being higher than Elvis but what the butt is Eminem higher than doing on this list higher than Elvis. Basically all the modern singers could be mute but you would still hear their songs since it's an electronic device making all the noise. - FrankP
No one was there when this music magician appeared on world scenario and changed the definition of entertainment. Others just filled the space he left vacant. He triggered modern music entertainment industry, that's why deserve to be number 1.
Elvis is the one who started it all. He had some of the greatest songs of all time. Elvis created what would become one of the most important music genres of all time; Rock and Roll. He is the King and deserves to be higher than #4.
Two words...The Greatest!V 46 Comments
There a great artist there one of the most famous artist and should be in the 10 ten of most famous artist and it is one of the top 10 most famous artist. They have great songs like all the songs from the albums The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here If you listen to the albums the albums would sound good. The Dark Side of the Moon, and The Wall what a classic those albums were even Wish You Were Here were but not as the other 2. The Dark Side of the Moon has all the best Pink Floyd songs in it for me but there are 2 other of the best Pink Floyd songs that is not on the album witch are Wish You Were Here and High Hops. I like all those songs the same. The album is a classic from begging to end that is like a greatest hits album. That is how good the album is. The Wall album was like that for me too.
The single greatest music artist ever. With most songs I can't remember the words too well but with EVERY Pink Floyd song not only can I remember the words but I can sing along to the guitar. Their music takes you on a journey from start to finsh, from Astronomy Domine (their first song) to High Hopes (their last). Before I heard Pink Floyd I didn't know the meaning of life. But after hearing songs like Echoes, Time, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, Money, Comfortably Numb (I could easily go on... and on) I found the meaning of life to be listening to Pink Floyd. I will forever be in debt to David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Syd Barrett.
2% votes. This must be a joke. They at least deserve to be 5th or 4th. For me they are the best band. Dark side of the moon is the best album. Check it out in any website if you want. The Wall and Wish You Were Here are also very good. Animal is good but under appreciated. They have never made bad songs. Their instrumentals and effects are superb and have awesome lyrics to back it up. They also touch deep thoughts and not shallow or soft ones. They are the best.
They should be at #1. Each song is it's own story. Just listen to the albums dark side of the moon, meddle, the wall, and wish you were here. It is unlike anything I have ever heard. You can just sit there doing nothing with their albums playing and just sit there pondering about everything. The songwriting is incredible, and even some of their songs have no vocals, yet it is the best thing I have ever heard. Their album Dark Side Of The Moon stayed on the charts for 741 WEEKS! That is the longest any album has ever been on there. Pink Floyd deserve to be at the top.V 24 Comments
He's just the best. Has the best lyrics, flow, wordplay, and he actually raps from the heart. I'm listening to him right now.
Has the greatest rap lyrics of all time and is a total genius at putting words together. He is truly the greatest of all time. Other people rap about anything they do he raps about the truth and nothing but the truth
He deserves to be above Kid Cudi anyways...
@445956 Worst musician of all time? I know you dislike his music a lot but isn't that overexaggerating a bit? - PeeledBanana
He's not an artist, he and his music are just a story, the best one in music history.V 195 Comments
His lyrics were genius, He led movements, he was a poet and extremely talented. There was a reason why many during his time thought he was some kind of prophet. Even though technically his vocals weren't the best, He knew how to take advantage of it and use his vocals to perfectly match his music. He sang about racism and many other important issues. He inspired the Beatles to write more deep music. He is one of the greatest lyricists of all time. - Mun
Deserves to be much higher on this list. Played numerous instruments most occasions at the same time. the voice of a generation. Most influential solo artist of all time. Countless artists have done versions of his songs. Hendrix, byrds, Clapton, stones, Springsteen, Cash, Stevie Wonder, and more. Stirred up the world and changed it by going electric at the new port folk festival. He is defined as what a MUSIC artist should be. Brilliant songwriter and poet. Earning numerous grammy's the presidential medal of freedom, and even PEFORMING FOR THE POPE! Influenced the biggest names in music, Beatles, Stones, Nirvana, Hendrix, and so much more! His importance to music is to that of the Beatles and maybe more.
Dylan isn't as popular as he is today because of The Beatles; if they never existed Dylan wouldn't be so shadowed and he really shouldn't be today. Dylan is the Robert Frost of music; his lyrics are true poetry unlike The Beatles'. "Like a Rolling Stone" made the writing process more relaxed: you don't really need sheet music. We were very fortunate to have The Byrds, if not we wouldn't enjoy Dylan.
"If The Beatles never existed Bob Dylan wouldn't be so overshadowed." Well that was one of the dumbest comments I've ever heard. The Beatles got famous because they are just as talented as Dylan. They both deserve the fame they have gotten. - MontyPython
Should be top 3 of all time. Ahead of his time in every way.V 20 Comments
I am very very disappointed, why are Metallica so far down the list, this is so stupid Metallica is the best by the length of the universe! Metallica has produced all kinds of music from fast tempos, thrash metal, hard rock, heavy metal, and speed metal so come on people vote Metallica!
How in the hell is Nirvana and Eminem above the best Metal band of all time!? Don't get me wrong, I like both Nirvana and Eminem, but come on, this is Metallica we're talking about.
Metallica should not be behind Linkin Park. Linkin Park is great. It's good to listen to, but it's not revolutionary. Metallica deserves a place ahead of the,
They deserve to be much higher...V 18 Comments
One of the most influential bands ever. Kurt Cobain will be missed forever. If Nirvana were still alive today, punk rock wouldn't be "emo and loser" music.
They were Great there's no denying that but we're they that influential? Grunge Died The same day Kurt died. - 12cc
Nirvana's Nevermind is a great album that tuned alternative into grunge rock.
This band revolutionized grunge and 90s alternative music. Kurt Cobain had people's jaws dropping. - camp0112
My favorite Grunge band, my favorite Grunge singer, and my favorite Grunge song, and that is none other than... NIRVANA! - Neonco31V 31 Comments
Bowie was a chameleon, constantly changing his image and music to stay relevant. Glam rock, blue-eyed soul, funk, experimental, David did it all. He never made a dull record.
If Space Oddity, Changes, Starman, Rebel Rebel, and "Heroes" don't appeal to you, get your hearing checked. - PetSounds
One of the best, if not the best, music artist of all time. I just love his songs. Also, and forgive me for my use of caps, WHY ARE DEMI LOVATO, TAYLOR SWIFT, Linkin Park AND ARIANA GRANDE HIGHER IN THIS LIST. Bowie should at least be in the top 3.
RIP David Bowie. You will be sorely missed.
There is no question that David Bowie is one of the greatest artists in the history of music.
Immortal songs: Space Oddity, Under Pressure, Fame, Life on Mars, Lets Dance, Modern Love, Starman, Rebel Rebel, Heroes, Ziggy Stardust,

Blue Cheer is very fuzzy and distortion. When I listen to Blue Cheer it feels like it is something special and very cool. Blue Cheer takes me somewhere where other artists do not. Blue Cheer feels very deep. You need to listen to or had listen to early Blue Cheer to understand or just have to understand. Other Rock artists are just like another Rock artist. Name me one artist that has the same feel as Blue Cheer? You may say this artist use distortion but not has the same feel as Blue Cheer but more like Jimi Hendrix but heavier or deeper. The Beatles are something too but later music of The Beatles feels like Bob Dylan and The Byrds in a way. I know The Beatles like started Rock that is not part of the Rock N’ Roll but that does not make them the best. There were other Rock artists before The Beatles. When Blue Cheer came out, Blue Cheer played Rock the best as a Rock artist can play. Blue Cheer rocks more than any artist that is not Metal or influence by Metal. - BlueFuse
@issaonrtdmtr Yep, on your side here. "All Time" seems to be a term used very loosely, and we only seem to look at our own generation, because that's where we found the music to be thriving. This band, along with many others on the first...3 pages, should be much lower, with much older musicians taking over the top. If we truly were looking at the greatest of all time, the first page would probably be 75% classical composers and 25% other iconic musicians. So this band, definitely deserves to be much lower, along with everything else in the top 20. Yes, EVERYTHING else. - naFrovivuS
How did Blue Cheer went all the way back down? This makes not sense. It should not go down that fast when it was at 19 today. There is no way Blue Cheer should not like the top artists when The Who, The Rolling Stones, Cream, and Jimi Hendrix are like the top artists. Name me one artists that Rock more than Blue Cheer that is not metal or have influence from Metal.
They have been over looked for too long - rbwilliver42V 9 Comments
Green Day solely kept punk rock going in an era of drought after bands such as the Ramones retired. Billie has the ability to create great guitar parts that play with the song, and has an amazon range, eg listen to dookie and then listen to some songs such as 21 guns or goo riddance. Tre is an amazing drummer and Mile is an amazing bassist. You don't have to play the most flashy possible to be a good band, Green Day knows that an plays for the music, add that, Billie's voice and their innovative ideas towards music and you have one of the greatest bands of all time, and I haven even started on how amazon they are live..
I did not want to vote for stupid Green Day. I want to vote for something better. Instead it went and put me that I click on Green Day. Stupid website. Green day is great but I am mad at the stupid website. How long do I have to wait to know it is fully loaded. Websites should be fast to load you.
No question, they are the best band ever. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool are a powerhouse trio that can't be ignored. Once you hear any of their songs, you will be hooked. - NvGNick
Above Eminem at least. They goodV 17 Comments
Previously one of my favourite bands, Maybe I'm being biased when I put them eighth on the list. Keith Moon was unbelievable entertaining on the drums, Roger Daltrey as he swings his microphone live, Pete Townshend ripping out his guitar and plays it as everyone's jaws drop and John Entwhistle a bass guitarist who could outstage a lead guitarist any time. Their album Tommy is one of the greatest rock operas. This band nearly convinced me to try to die some how before I got old. - Mun
With Pete Townshend's wildly fast and crazy guitar playing, his incredible ability to write some of the best Rock N Roll songs, and his outstanding Piano and Keyboard playing... and with Keith Moon as drummer, (notably the 3rd best drummer of all time) with his extremely fast and beaty drumming, especially on their album, "Who's Next". Roger Daltrey, with is famous high pitched screechy voice, well suited for a Rock N Roll band. And John Entwistle as Bass guitarist, with his fast n loud low notes that make him probably the best Bassist of all time. Now that I've said that, I hope you understand why I'm disappointed that they're at #14 for the best music artists of all time, instead of something like #5 or 6
Is one of the first artists that rocks hard and really rocks more than Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart. This artist made rock music really rocks from the start like The Rolling Stones. This artist influence the start of Punk, and Hard Rock. Which are the main types of music of Rock along with Metal. - BlueFuse

For Elton not to be at the top 5 goes to show that some people don't truly know his music or history. He has sold more than 30 albums and 250 million records with no concert that goes with an empty seat is absolutely ridiculous. Nonetheless he is one of the greatest musical artists of all time, with more than 45 years beyond his prime he still is on fire and is loved by generations of both past and present time. Truly one of the most phenomenal artists in music to walk the Earth.
Not at top 10? Nonsense, He has been an icon for 40 years, still making records in 2013, he shall be in top 5. Not to mention he is one of the most prolific artist in music history
So many lost tracks this guy has made. I encourage you to find some "Indian Sunset" and "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" are good places to start, as well as the " Tumbleweed Connection" album. - LPR20

Bellow Linkin Park, nirvana, Metallica and Green Day?
I like some of those bands and think nirvana (and to a certain extent Green Day) deserve to be on this list but would any of them exist without Hendrix? I doubt it.
I also love Pink Floyd but he should be higher than them... Maybe behind the Beatles, Dylan, whoever the best blues guys were and either one of Johnny cash or hank Williams he should be in probably 6th place but all lists like this are completely subjective as there can never be a best artist. Even the Beatles can't be undisputed leaders because there were people who influenced them and without those guys the Beatles wouldn't exist.
I also think on lists like this people say ' best of all time' but leave out early blues, bluegrass, folk and country guys ( I think there may be some overlap there but I'm no music expert) who probably made it all possible for everyone on this list. And what about classical music? Just because its not popular nowadays ...more
I do not have a top 10 favorite artist if I had to pick. So to make it fear I top the most famous artist that is not one of my favorite artists on list besides the artist Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Bob Dylan. Why one of them are not on 10 but he is when those artist are more famous then him because I like him more than Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. I like him more because he is harder and he is more of my typ. I like Bob Dylan just as much as jimi Hendrix. I put him over Bob Dylan when he is more famous then jimi Hendrix and when I like them the same because jimi Hendrix has more of my type of music. If I put jimi Hendrix over Bob Dylan people would may say why do you not like Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson much as other artist or/and have one of them on the list instead of him when you do with Bob Dylan when he other artist has more of your type of music. So Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson should be on the list instead of jimi Hendrix. Or people may say he should be ...more
One of the greatest guitarists of all time, People literally strummed only before Hendrix hit the stage. His performances were beautiful, he was revolutionary and he had so much passion when playing live. Seeing him perform live is a unique experience, He destroyed Clapton when playing live with Cream for the first time and did his own version of Killing Floor.
His way of thinking was definitely ahead of his time. - Mun
Hendrix, the Beatles and Elvis should all be tied at number one. Without any of them, where would music be today?
The father of modern guitar music, with some of the greatest riffs of all time.
I would vote for Eminem, but this seriously deserves a higher spot.
Where has everybody's taste disappeared? Linkin Park was in top 10 for a long while before other nonsense came in. What on Earth is happening to music?
Linkin Park is really underrated. But that's because people really don't give them a chance. They have all kinds of different styles like rap, electronic, rock, and even screamo. I thin Linkin Park should be higher on this list

The greatest, the best, the legend, the boss with albums such as born to run, darkness on the edge of town, Nebraska, The River and Born in the USA with songs as Thunder road, backstreets, Born to run, Jungleland, Badlands, The promised land, racing in the street, prove it all night, darkness on the edge of town, out in the street, the river, hungry heart, glory days, Born in the USA, no surrender, dancing in the dark and many more

This is billy Joel, I don't think you heard me so I'll say it again, billy piano man joel. This is a man who should dominate this list. It takes a great artist to be able to learn from other people's sounds and make a much better outcome from them.
I'll put this simply. He is very simply the greatest musician of all time. He should absolutely be in the top 10 or 5. And putting Green Day, Eminem, Metallica, and Nirvana above him is a gross miscarriage of justice. - ATiM
He is number 21 of all time but number 35 of the 20th century. That makes no sense. This list also includes bands and he is still higher. He is my favorite musician.
