The Top Ten
1 The Beatles The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented ...read more.

while so much of so was going on in the 60s, with the civil rights movement and everything, god gifted us with the beatles with a tear in her eyes, and said, I see you my children, and I praise you for all the hardships you're going through to make things better. She made sure in two young lads, in the small sub urbs or liverpool find each others so the world can have the greatest thing ever in the history of all the music.

Those saying MJ should be number one surely are living under a rock. See what they did in just 8 years. They got most hits on US charts despite not being American, sold most albums in US and worldwide and all in a span of 8 years. Sure MJ broke racial barriers but he could not even do half of what Beatles did. Beatles had impact on culture and were a minor force in bringing down communism in USSR. Beatlemania is one of first show of feminist movements. Their music touched hearts whereas MJ just amused people. See the wikipedia page of cultural impact of the Beatles it is 5 times bigger than MJ's page of cultural impact.

Where should I start? This band is a legend literally. Its influence on music and culture is unparalleled. I doubt if there exists any musician after them who haven't heard them and love them.

Indescribable. So amazing whether you like them or not. They can't be beat. They were the greatest band who ever lived. John and George were no Hendrix at guitar. Paul wasn't any John Enwistle. And Ringo was no Neil Peart! But none of that mattered. At all. They just wrote incredible songs. They didn't need insane guitar solos. They were insane songwriters. The songs this band wrote can not be explained. If you haven't, take a listen to a couple albums by the Beatles. Even if you HATE the Beatles cause your a stubborn baby who likes only rap or like heavy metal, you'll find at least one song that you love by this band. You will be amazed at the talent of each one of these four lads from Liverpool.

2 Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band ...read more.

Should be at 3 behind MJ, despite queen being my favourite. Some people think that Queen are overrated and that led zeppelin and the stones and such were better, but led zeppelin and the rolling stone's music is not as relevant in today's industry as queen and MJ and the beatles because of the style that they played. Queen are my favourite and deservedly high on this list; Freddie's vocal are beyond compare, Brian's guitar playing was phenomenal and the red special had such a distinctive sound, Roger's drums were superbly solid and so was John's and all of the 4 had great ability to sing harmonies. Queen were also the greatest band live, as seen when they dominated live aid. Queen are around where they should be on this list #4.ut not higher and no lower than #

The Beatles are understandable at number one, they were a phenomenon. I don't agree with Michael Jackson at 2, but he was unique. What really kills me are the Zeppelin fans. Cover bands shouldn't be on any list, especially the ones who steal music and songs and claim them as their own originals. Zeppelin is the MOST overrated band in history. I know it was cool to listen to them in high school to impress your friends, but adults should do a little research to see everything they stole. Queen on the other hand is the whole package; originality, talent, showmanship...they never needed to steal the work of others. RIP Freddie, I hope you and Bowie and send down some heavenly music ASAP!

There is no element of music and musical performance in which Queen did not excel and best its competitors. Incredible song writing, glorious instrumental aptitude, and sheer theatrics are defined by this group in a way that no individual or band has been capable of before or since. Weaving effortlessly through genres and styles, oftentimes within the course of a single song, Queen made the creation of generation-defining music seem like another day at the office. This group is the Prometheus of music, delivering fire to the masses and altering the course of human history.

The truth is Queen was a filler band. Their albums were just maybe a good song or two and then a bunch of terrible tracks. Now onto the members. Freddie Mercury wasn't a rock singer. He wa pop singer. His voice didn't fit with most of their songs, especially Stone Cold Crazy. The drummer and bassist, are practically unknown to the average man. The guitarists, however, was decently talented. Although all members wrote "great hits," those songs are truly overrated. Bohemian Rhapsody isn't even comparable to the The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, or the Beatles. In a realistic situation, there is no reason Queen should be this high on the list, let alone above greater artists than themselves.

3 Michael Jackson Michael Joseph Jackson was an American singer, dancer, and songwriter born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, and passed away on June 25, 2009. He donated (at least) a remarkable 500,000,000 dollars to charity. Michael is also known as The King of Pop (a title given to him by Elizabeth Taylor) or ...read more.

The king of pop. Many people think Michael Jackson is overrated, and while I do agree to some degree, I have to put him on the top 10 because he inspired so many pop musicians that were to come. Many of his songs were upbeat, groovy, and got straight to the point. Artists like The Weeknd and (unfortanately) Bruno Mars are almost directly influenced by Michael Jackson's funky R&B vibes. While I don't think he deserves the number 3 spot, he's number 9 on my list.

It's really awesome that MJ is the only solo artist in this list who's really higher. I think his family also should get the recognition as him and Janet. We really miss ya man.

His music is liked by Japanese, who doesn't even know english. He's the most popular man in the world after Jesus. I dunno whether Jesus even existed but this guy was popular.

The most successful entertainer, and most recognizable man on earth, even nearly a decade after his death. Michael Jackson was simply phenomenal, sold records like no tomorrow, broke through all racial barriers, his performances were masterpieces, his dance moves iconic, and his music unmatched in its reach. Famous all over the world from childhood. Over 30 years after it's release and the 1983 Thriller is still the best selling album of all time, and his other albums, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995), all rank among the most successful albums of all time. Jackson received an unmatched amount of celebrity, and in his prime everyone wanted to be like him. His dance has influenced the masses even more than his singing in some ways, and he is widely regarded to be the greatest, and one of the most influential dancers of all time. From his amazingly choreographed music videos such as Thriller, Beat It, Bad, and Smooth Criminal, to outstanding ...more

4 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin was an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums). The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition ...read more.

Those who say The Beatles are the greatest band should try listening to Led Zeppelin. Beatles were a band that had good songwriters, below average vocalists and way too overrated instrument players. Led Zeppelin had one of the greatest vocalists, best guitarist after Jimi Hendrix, arguably the best drummer and a great bassist that is not overrated like Sir Paul Mccartney. Listen to KASHMIR, It will absolutely stick to your mind. What is great about Hey Jude. way too repetitive. Just because BEATLES is more popular than Led Zeppelin and more successful in terms of sales doesn't make them better. Also, Just because Beatles started earlier, that doesn't make them better either. Only band that is comparable to ZEP is Pink Floyd, Another band that is way more talented than The Beatles.

The fact that The Beatles is over this legendary hard rock band is an insult. Led Zeppelin had some of the best guitar riffs and solos, and pioneered the way for other hard, alternative, and indie rock bands. They also had legendary songs such as Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven, and Dyer Maker. Definitely Number 5 on my list.

The greatest band of all time. All of the members were truly amazing including John Bonham (with amazing drumming skills that left a crowd on the edge of their seat, no doubt the greatest drummer of all time.), Jimmy Page (a magnificent guitarist that used many different techniques to get the perfect sound for the song, like using a double neck guitar or using a bow on a guitar, he's definitely one of the best), John Paul Jones (one of the best bassist their is, his work holds all the songs together) and lastly, but definitely not least, Robert Plant (his vocals as front man are absolutely mind bending, after ever song the listener is left in shock, his most beautiful voice will leave any audience with chills and his diva ways on stage are intensifying). Not to mention the whole bad puts off a feeling of excitement. With magnificent pieces like Stairway to Heaven, Dazed and Confused, Rock and Roll, All My Love, Over the Hills and Far Away, Heart Breaker, D'yer Mak'er, Ramble On, Black ...more

Will never be topped. Timeless music that still captured the sound of the rock era, while pushing the boundaries of various genres in their decade long run of sold out concerts and globally acclaimed records, right from the very first album. Basically Led Zeppelin was the once in a millennium meeting of fortune of the four best rock musicians in their respective instruments of sound into one unbelievable band. Whether you listen to Led Zeppelin, whether you listen to rock even, hell if you don't listen to music full stop, you have heard the heartpulsing emotional vocals of Plant, or the ripping tone of Page. Without a doubt, the best there was and most likely ever be.

5 Pink Floyd Pink Floyd was an English progressive rock band formed in 1965 in London, England. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. The band consisted of 5 members - David Gilmour (Vocals and Guitar), Syd Barrett (Vocals and Guitar), Nick Mason (Drums), Roger Waters ...read more.

This band is god-tier. Any other musician, artist, or band can't even come close to the talent and otherworldly beauty that is Pink Floyd. To have them below Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, and even Jimi Hendrix would do them a disservice. Every experimental musician, hip-hop artist, metal band, or alternative/indie rock band probably has inspiration from Pink Floyd. Unlike other music, Pink Floyd's music takes you on a deep emotional journey through space and time. Even Jim Morrison said at the time when Pink Floyd first started as an experimental psychedelic rock band that they were on another level. This band was way ahead of their time, even compared to most music in the 2020s, in how revolutionary their sounds and talent were. Whenever I listen to Time, it takes me back to that first summer after my first semester of college getting stoned with my friends, but you don't have to be stoned to appreciate the beauty that is Pink Floyd (even if it makes it 3x better). ...more

There a great artist there one of the most famous artist and should be in the 10 ten of most famous artist and it is one of the top 10 most famous artist. They have great songs like all the songs from the albums The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here If you listen to the albums the albums would sound good. The Dark Side of the Moon, and The Wall what a classic those albums were even Wish You Were Here were but not as the other 2. The Dark Side of the Moon has all the best Pink Floyd songs in it for me but there are 2 other of the best Pink Floyd songs that is not on the album witch are Wish You Were Here and High Hops. I like all those songs the same. The album is a classic from begging to end that is like a greatest hits album. That is how good the album is. The Wall album was like that for me too.

The single greatest music artist ever. With most songs I can't remember the words too well but with EVERY Pink Floyd song not only can I remember the words but I can sing along to the guitar. Their music takes you on a journey from start to finsh, from Astronomy Domine (their first song) to High Hopes (their last). Before I heard Pink Floyd I didn't know the meaning of life. But after hearing songs like Echoes, Time, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, Money, Comfortably Numb (I could easily go on... and on) I found the meaning of life to be listening to Pink Floyd. I will forever be in debt to David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Syd Barrett.

I personally like Led Zeppelin more, and maybe the Beatles. As a favourite artist, I would say Led zeppelin. But as the greatest artist? Best lyrics, best albums? Pink Floyd. They're the only band ( that I listen to) that can tell and Long, fully explored, dark, depressing story, about disconnect from society, drug abuse, abuse teachers, and an overprotective mother. And that was ONE album. It's not just one of my favourite albums, but even one of my favourite story's. it's so well told with methfors and suddelty, hidden behind incredible solos, and great songs. When the wrote a song, they had a meaning. Pink Floyd had meaning. That's why they are the best artists, of all time. Better then Zeppelin, better then Queen, far, far better Then the Rolling Stones, and even better then The Beatles.

6 Metallica Metallica is an American Thrash Metal band formed in 1981 . The original lineup was James Hetfield (Vocalist and Rhythm guitarist), Dave Mustaine (Lead Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums), Ron McGovney (Bassist). The group came into mainstream from their Self-Titled album and the hit single "Enter Sandman". ...read more.

Such a bad-ass band. While Black Sabbath sort of pioneered the metal sound, Metallica was truly the beginning of heavy metal, including thrash metal which was their subgenre. All of the heavy metal elitists who only listen to obscure Black and Death metal bands call Metallica "sell-outs", which is a heavily overused term. To me, selling out is not just when you make it big, it's when you make it big and drop your music quality in the interest of making money. Metallica never lost their quality, even during their Black Album years during the 90s. So many legendary metal tracks came out of this band with amazing guitar solos that I have to put them at number 8 on the top 10.

I never rate musicians by my liking.. I have seen a lot of people put Eminem's song writing down? I do admit although I do like some of his music, I am definitely not a huge M fan! But I give credit where credit is due! He is extremely talented! But with that being said, he is not as diverse with his topics and doesn't write with the intellectual ability that Hatfield and crew do! I am a huge Metallica fan,but its not the reason I say Metallica is a definite top 3! It's based solely on talent and ability! Metallica will be releasing billboard #1 albums long after most on this list have completely faded away! Metallica 4 EVER!

I am very very disappointed, why are Metallica so far down the list, this is so stupid Metallica is the best by the length of the universe! Metallica has produced all kinds of music from fast tempos, thrash metal, hard rock, heavy metal, and speed metal so come on people vote Metallica!

I call on fans of all metal to get this brilliant metal artist above the crappy little Eminem who not only is a bad role model but has sampled ONE! ONE! Metallica's classic song from... And justice for all. So lets kick the pirate off of his pedestal

7 Green Day Green Day are an American pop punk, punk rock band formed in East Bay, California in 1987. The members include Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals and guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass), Tré Cool (drums) and Jason White (guitar) . Green Day are associated with punk rock, pop punk and alternative rock. My favourite band ever. They are amazing. Listen to songs like Holiday, Bang Bang etc. you might think there simple but the quality in the end is huge! Brilliant artists!

Green Day solely kept punk rock going in an era of drought after bands such as the Ramones retired. Billie has the ability to create great guitar parts that play with the song, and has an amazon range, eg listen to dookie and then listen to some songs such as 21 guns or goo riddance. Tre is an amazing drummer and Mile is an amazing bassist. You don't have to play the most flashy possible to be a good band, Green Day knows that an plays for the music, add that, Billie's voice and their innovative ideas towards music and you have one of the greatest bands of all time, and I haven even started on how amazon they are live..

I did not want to vote for stupid Green Day. I want to vote for something better. Instead it went and put me that I click on Green Day. Stupid website. Green day is great but I am mad at the stupid website. How long do I have to wait to know it is fully loaded. Websites should be fast to load you.

In my opinion this is one of the best bands in the history of music. Billie Joe rocks out on guitar and piano, Tre plays the drums hard and smooth with Mike Dirnt playing some sick bass!

8 Eminem Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is an American rapper, actor and music producer born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eminem has sold over 300 million records making him the bestselling hip-hop artist of all time. In addition to his solo career, he is a member of D12 and (with Royce ...read more.

Is this some kind of joke? He does nothing but rap fast about random unnecessary topics over a beat that isn't even his, raps with a grating voice, even stated himself that 2Pac is better, uses homophobic lyrics, and raps about killing his wife. And he doesn't even write his lyrics, and he is higher than Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix is sickening. Black people run rap, not this god awful white poser.

Easily the most overrated rapper, the most overrated artist period! I bet there's not even another rapper on the list. Whoever added him and all those who voted, I guarantee don't even know Hip-Hop. Y'all think he's the only rapper that exists and it's really annoying. Kool G Rap is better than this fraud, Canibus, Pharoah Monche, Big L, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Wise Intelligent, Big Pun, Big Daddy Kane, Kool Moe Dee, Jay Electronica, Black Thought, Rakim, Sticky Fingaz, Styles P, Jada, Louch, Ras Kas etc. It's getting out of hand.

Eminem is the most extraordinary musician to ever live. No artist comes even close to the emotion Shady brings to the mic. He created the best album of all time in the Marshall Mathers LP. He became the best rapper to ever live, while being the ONLY white rapper on the scene in the early 2000's. Which makes everything he did more impressive. No artist has ever beat the odds better than Marshall Mathers. The king of rap.

Very impactful guy. He may not be recognized as the #1 artist yet, but give it a few years and people will look back on this guy and recognize him in the same group as Michael Jackson, the Beatles, and the other greats. The fact an artist that came out just 16 years ago is number 5 already really makes a statement. In my opinion his lyrics have more meaning then the others on this list by quite a bit. JUST AN OPINION

9 AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014 . Highway to hell, back in black and of course THUNDERSTRUCK which is one of the most iconic rock songs ever, are the best Hard rock songs ever besides Crawling By linkin park

SERIOUSLY?!?!? , 14th place isn't an acceptable position for these absolute legends. Need I say more? , they've appealed to all generations of people for 4 decades now and are the best rockers out there. With over 200 million album sales and over 50 million on back in black alone (the best selling rock album of all time). With Hits that never have/will get old like Thunderstruck, You shook me all night long, Highway to hell, Hells bells, Back in black AND THE LIST GOES ON. The best of the best and always will be. For those about to rock, we salute you

Best rock band of all time. no way in hell Green Day and My Chemical Romance should be above them. love both those bands, but neither compares to the legend that is AC/DC

I'd put AC/DC 5 because they've been around forever. Their songs are so iconic.

10 Elvis Elvis Presley was an American musician and actor. Known as "The King" He was mostly known for his number 1 singles including "Heartbreak Hotel" "Hound Dog" "Jailhouse Rock" "Love me Tender" Elvis debuted in the movie "Love me Tender" and focused less on his music and continued that way. ...read more.

This isn't even contestable. Elvis started in the 50's and is still a household name today in 2019, The King paved the way for so many other artist and gave inspiration to the likes of not only Michael Jackson but Bruno Mars as well. Ever wonder where Bruno's moves come from.- "Elvis the pelvis."
There were his earlier hits like "Jailhouse Rock," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Blue Suede Shoes," and "Hound Dog". Then there is one of the most beautiful performances of any song ever with "Can't Help Falling".
My Top 10 greatest musicians or musical groups of all time is as follows:
1. Elvis Presley
2. The Beatles (side note: they have the most #1 Billboard Hot 100 hits of any other band or artist)
3. Bruno Mars (Bruno is only in his 30's and he already has so many hit songs that everybody knows. I always say that he is today's Elvis.

All those artists ranked above him wouldn't be there if Elvis would never have existed. He started more than only Rock and Roll worldwide. He opened the doors for black music to all people ( he made it popular when this was called " race music " ), he invented a attitude for teenagers ( before him there was not really a music or a teen-culture ). The Beatles were rockers when they started, Michael Jackson would never had a chance as a popular musician if there would still a segegration of black / white music, Led Zeppelin and Queen would never had the oppurtinity to take Rock further... Elvis started it all! I'm not saying that all those artists ranked above him had no talent, I'm just saying that all those artists wouldn't be on this list without Elvis.

Elvis is the greatest entertainer of all time! King of Music!

For those saying that Elvis stole music from black people:

He ALWAYS gave credit to his black Inspirations. He called Chuck Berry and Fats Domino the King of Rock n Roll, and said Fats Domino is the greatest rock and roller of all time. He also stated "I can't sing those songs like colored folks, and I know that". He also said, "Rock n roll was here long before I came". He also did not 'steal' his hit songs. Most of his hits were written by Leiber and Stoller (two white guys) in the 1950s, and he used songs from equally black and white songwriters in the 1970s. Also, Elvis did not steal "Hound Dog" from Big Mama Thornton. Though she was the first one to sing the song, she did not write it. I can't stress that enough! Leiber and Stoller wrote it for her, and like ten other people sang it before Elvis did his version of it. Also, back then it was not wrong to use other people's ...more

Elvis should be no. 1 on this list not te beatles. They wouldn't have existed if elvis had not been there. That's what john lennon said. Elvis had a fantastic beautiful voice, gorgeous looks and amazing stage presence. Read what all the big stars have said about him, he was the greatest entertainer who has ever lived! He was also a great humanitarian giving large sums to charity and indviduals. Known all around the world by his first name and loved by millions of fans. Artist of the century, and as leonard berstain said 'elvis was the greatest cultural force of the 20h century.' He was a rebel and a pioneer, a giant in music, he stands alone in music history. Rest in peace, darling man.

11 The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. Amazing, The Rolling Stones music make you feel like you can be yourself. I could never really explain why I loved the Stones so much, every time I listened to them I wanted to dance and jump in the air. Watching Mick Jagger dance on stage and how comfortable he was to do any kind of dance and not even care if he was embarrassing himself or not is inspiring.

You can see why I am having then at number 4 because there is the most rock artist. There a great rock artist they made great songs like Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Angie, Jumping jack flash, Wild Horses, There truly are better than The Beatles because there harder. I know there are a lot of other bands harder than The Beatles but The Rolling Stones and happen to be better. The Rolling Stones are just very good. This is the best I can get to explained why I think The Rolling Stones are better than The Beatles. The reason I did not explained why the first 2 I think was better than the Beatles because Alice in Chains are my favorite and people has a different favorite artist and people should not be saying mean things to me why the Beatles are better or completing why there better and keep going on. It is not like there a bad artist there a good artist. I am fine people saying to why they think the Beatles are better than Alice in Chains. ...more

They are the worlds' greatest rock and roll band and are still going more than The Beatles! They are extremely popular and sound amazing. They should be number 1 on every list because they ARE #1!

I cannot accept Eminem being higher than Elvis OR the rolling stones. Eminem is good, but he's not revolutionary. The Rolling Stones released complex, well structured songs.

12 Linkin Park Linkin Park is an American rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. Just read the damn lyrics, you haters.
And no, they didn't become famous because of Chester's Death. They became famous because of Hybrid Theory and Meteora, which were great albums. Sure, they might have made a few "pop" songs, but every song had excellent lyrics. Not liking Linkin Park because of the music is fine, but not liking Linkin Park because of the lyrics is not understandable. Calling them idiots is stupid too. They have 1-2 overrated songs, but they have a million underrated songs.

They are without doubt the best band today.
their lyrics are fantastic and their music is the perfect fusion of alternative rock and rap.
to say a little, chester's voice is one of the best in the entire rock history, so powerful and versatile, and can go from melodic vocals to screams easily. mike is a fantastic rapper and a good melodic singer, and also a good songwriter . brad is a way too underrated guitarist, and the other members, phoenix, rob and joe are underrated too.
if you listen to their songs you feel the emotions they put into their art.
In my opinion, they need to be at least in top 5.
There are a lot of people who hate on them because they were nu metal, because of one more light etc.
There is nothing wrong in trying different genres. It only proves they are talented.

p.s. numb is not overrated, just listen to it and try to be open minded.

true legends

Come on, you can't be serious that Linkin Park should be in the top 10! They shouldn't even be in the top 1000! Nothing they have done even comes close to the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones or Bob Dylan just to name a few, and the fact that they are higher than music God's such as Jimi Hnedrix and The Who is bloody awful.

Linkin Park doesn't even COMPARE to these other bands! I mean, come on. People don't give them a chance. Now they are all about this crappy pop music. They deserve the #1 spot. The vocals are amazing; along with the music. Also, RIP Chester.

Through their short 7 year career, Nirvana almost shook the world with their 3 albums... Imagine if Kurt Cobain would've been still alive then maybe... Today Nirvana would've been probably bigger than Metallica too.. RIP Kurt Cobain...

One of the best bands that changed music in general. Their lead singer Kurt Cobain (one of the most greatest musicians of all time) influenced many generations and in my opinion improved how music was back then. Therefor why is Nirvana N.12? It should at least be N.9 or in the Top 10.

One of the only bands held in such high regard despite only being around for a few years, without nirvana, the 90s would have been a very dull decade musically. Kurt cobain was a genius and it's still tragic to this day he was unable to cope. RIP Kurt

Nirvana has been the one of the most influential bands ever. Kurt Cobain will be missed for ever. In his lifetime he had everyone's jaws dropping to the floor! Nirvana revolutionized grunge and 90s alternative music!

14 David Bowie David Robert Jones, known professionally as David Bowie (January 8, 1947 - January 10, 2016) was an English singer born in London, the son of a fundraiser and a waitress. He is credited for his experimental and creative musical discography which has won praise and accolades for many critics and fans. ...read more.

I love bands like Green Day, or even Queen and the like, but they're not better artists than Ziggy Stardust himself. No one has gone through so many transformations so seamlessly like Bowie has. His creative brilliance is reflected in records like the legendary "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars," "Low," "Blackstar," etc. David Bowie was one of those rare artists who was able to make not one, but multiple masterpieces. Green Day is great, Linkin Park isn't, but both need to be behind this man in terms of artistry. R.I.P.

Talk about one guy who studied and mastered the artistic side of Rock, you know, who lived it, breathed it, and was like a professor at it.

Who knew that a man from Mars could be so talented Everyone meet David Bowie Who is an absolute idol Whose singing voice is amazing This dude was in the labyrinth my favourite childhood movie Growing up He was such a talented Music artist

How is this guy not higher on the list? Seriously, how? This man was fearless when it came to music and revolutionized the pop music industry. He always wanted to do what he wanted. He was an absolutely brilliant lyricist, an amazing singer, and did fantastic shows. He should most definitely be one of the greatest musicians/ artists in history

Whatever cuxks voted for this have small brain. There are actually so many good bands. Yes, this band is was on the better ones today, since they are the only thing that is really keeping rock alive as all the old ones are close to death. But they should not be in top 30. There are so many that should be higher than them, Jimi Hendrix, guns n roses, Bob Dylan, the who and more. The only other band that is keeping rock alive besides them really old bands is green day, not counting 80s green day because not many people remember that. And they are really good, not having full pop rock, still more hard rock, punk. Father of all may not be good so far, however it is still actual rock

Beatles + Queen + Cold play+ Eminem + David bowie + Navania + Radiohead + Metallica + 21 pillot + Beach boys+ Green Day + U2 = Imagine dragon

Seriously, anyone who made bad comments or underrate them, does not really know them, probably they have only listened to radioactive and thunder out of their songs. Believe me I love must of the artist from the, 70s, 80s and 90s but the Dragons are my favorite and the they're the Best Artist of all time, I can say it anywhere.

Huge fan of Imagine Dragons, they're alternative style is fantastic and their songs are very deep and dark. Demons, radioactive, monster, I'm so sorry (my favourite), it's time, bleeding out the list goes on. However I would consider them nowhere near top 200. (in their defense maroon 5 isn't even top 1000 and they're 25 as of now). Still one of the best alternative bands top 20 in my opinion

Best artist of all time, can't love them less, they will forever be my favourite band of all time. my best song from them is beliver, look like the song is made for me, it my personal anthem, radioactive is so great my second favourite, bad liar, on top of top of the word, thunder, it time born to be your, natural, next to me and so all, I love them all.

16 Iron Maiden Iron Maiden are an English Heavy Metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The most critically acclaimed period for the band was from 1983-1989. With vocalist Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, lead guitarist Dave Murray, rhythm guitarist Adrian ...read more.

Though I have loved Metal/Hard Rock music all my life, even some Death Metal... but Iron Maiden well... I was around 14 I think living in Helena, MT at the time. Walking home from school I always stopped into the local record store to see if anything good has come out. I had just recently got into albums from Judas Priest, Scorpions, Rush, Van Halen...and man I really like this stuff, but why in the heck ya never heard it on the radio always puzzled me!? Anyhow, guy at the counter said check this out it's "Where Eagles Dare" from Iron Maiden, the album is called Piece of Mind... and wow what a cover, check it out... he handed it to me and well...(you fill in the rest). Just turned 50 this year. Up The Irons!

Theres nothing more exciting than watching Bruce sing "Fear Of The Dark", "Hallowed Be Thy Name ", "Aces High " ,"Trooper" , "Sign Of The Cross " , "The Wicker Man " , " The Clairvoyant " , " Heaven Can Wait " and so on there's a lot of great songs... Along with the triple guitar attack of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith , and Janick Gets... Along with Steve Harris' s galloping style and Nicko's fast yet melodius drumming... Iron Maiden is like living a dream of heavy metal...

Ok, I can live with them not being at the top, but out of top 10? Just no. And to the guy who compared them to The Beatles: if having the highest charting songs is a measure of how good an artist is, then Justin Bieber is the best artist ever. Iron Maiden built their success with barely any airplay, yet they're still regarded as one of the best bands of all time.

Greatest band of all time!

Awesome songs!
Awesome albums!
Awesome lyrics!
Awesome cover artwork!
Awesome members!
Awesome fans!

Whats not to like?

17 Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).

I can understand Radiohead not being some people's cup of tea but for me, they are fabulous. They are not scared to take a chance and experiment - I won't say that I like everything that they do but that's probably what makes them stand out from the crowd.

I got heavily interested into Radiohead very late. The first time I've ever heard of this band was when their 2016 album "A Moon Shaped Pool" was released, and I was mesmerized with my first time hearing it. It was unlike any other rock music I've ever heard. It's extremely experimental, softcore, and minimalist in nature and I loved every bit of it. I began to dig deeper into this band's discography and I must say that it's been a while since I've found a band that's had such consistency. Radiohead's lyrics are fantastic and their style is always unique and hypnotic, and I also may be a sucker for Thom Yorke's voice. I got hooked on this band so hard and so fast that I must say that they need to have my #1 spot.

Are you actually kidding me?

Coldplay, who said themselves 'we are a version of Radiohead' are higher? Let alone all the other rubbish like My Chemical Romance and OneRepublic... I usually respect the people of this website but... come on. OK Computer, Kid A, The Bends and In Rainbows, all some of the most critically acclaimed and best albums of all time, and their other albums like Amnesiac and A Moon Shaped Pool are alone better than half the artists above this.

The most inventive band of all time. Thom Yorke is an incredible singer, but he's an even better songwriter. OK Computer is the greatest album of all time, and had such great insight on the time then and the future (now) with songs like Paranoid Android and The Tourist

18 Panic! at the Disco Panic! at the Disco is an American pop rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004 and featuring the current lineup of vocalist Brendon Urie, accompanied on tour by bassist Dallon Weekes, guitarist Kenneth Harris, and drummer Dan Pawlovich.

This is my favorite band of all time. Twenty One Pilots is my second and Fall Out Boy is my third. I feel bad for Brendon Urie because his former band members left him, but he is doing so much better on his own. No one right now persuade me to love a different band. This is my favorite and it will always be.

Hey look ma I made is still my favorite song today.

Actually the different albums are so diverse!

Early Panic! material is absolutely perfect, pretty much it was all great until it became DOAB.

19 Bob Dylan Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter, author, and artist who has been an influential figure in popular music and culture for more than five decades.

Bob Dylan cannot be overrated by any sense. He's not a great musician for his voice. Dear Lord, it's not his voice. But his talent for multiple instruments, sometimes at once, and his lyrical genius put him above the rest. A greater writer than even The Beatles or The Faces. He is a masterful lyricist and poet. His writing won him a presidential medal of Freedom and he will live on in history for decades due to his influence on such a wide spectrum of musical genre's.

His lyrics were genius, He led movements, he was a poet and extremely talented. There was a reason why many during his time thought he was some kind of prophet. Even though technically his vocals weren't the best, He knew how to take advantage of it and use his vocals to perfectly match his music. He sang about racism and many other important issues. He inspired the Beatles to write more deep music. He is one of the greatest lyricists of all time.

Deserves to be much higher on this list. Played numerous instruments most occasions at the same time. the voice of a generation. Most influential solo artist of all time. Countless artists have done versions of his songs. Hendrix, byrds, Clapton, stones, Springsteen, Cash, Stevie Wonder, and more. Stirred up the world and changed it by going electric at the new port folk festival. He is defined as what a MUSIC artist should be. Brilliant songwriter and poet. Earning numerous grammy's the presidential medal of freedom, and even PEFORMING FOR THE POPE! Influenced the biggest names in music, Beatles, Stones, Nirvana, Hendrix, and so much more! His importance to music is to that of the Beatles and maybe more.

Dylan isn't as popular as he is today because of The Beatles; if they never existed Dylan wouldn't be so shadowed and he really shouldn't be today. Dylan is the Robert Frost of music; his lyrics are true poetry unlike The Beatles'. "Like a Rolling Stone" made the writing process more relaxed: you don't really need sheet music. We were very fortunate to have The Byrds, if not we wouldn't enjoy Dylan.

20 Coldplay Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996. Coldplay will forever be the best artist, Period. All their material is hauntingly good. Their 'new stuff' is still amazing compared to the 1st few albums and it still has that Coldplay vibe. They can make anything sound their own. Coldplay have a song for every emotion that our bodies can physically and psychologically feel. The chemistry within in the band is one of the main attributes that puts them head and shoulders above the likes of The Beetles, Queen, MJ, The Rolling Stones... Coldplay will forever be the epitome of music.

"Coldplay, we don't care whatever rubbish other people say but you have a whole army behind you ." The point is that Coldplay is generally a brittle rock band and its instrumental composition is divine that it fills people heart with joy. For me it all started with the song "Paradise " from the album Mylo Xyloto. I think that's when entered the world of Coldplay out of inspire and curiosity. Seriously this band deserves be at least top 15

In this era of 'musical drought' where music is all about rap and edm,Coldplay is the probably the only band which is bringing out some cherishable music. Probably might not ever reach the likes of the Beatles or pink Floyd, but they are sure carrying on the legacy of rock music. The scientist is one such song, just listen to it and every time it times down to a memory lane.

Coldplay are already too high. It's a joke that people think they should be higher. They have made a few decent pop songs but there's a reason they have never been anywhere near as high on any music critic's lists.

21 My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance was an American rock band from Jersey City, New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013. For much of their career, the band consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Bob Bryar.

At last a list that gives My Chemical Romance the credit they deserve :) My Chemical Romance isn't just a band is a way of seeing life, is hope, is happiness, is also sadness, is life itself with everything that it has for a human beign. My Chemical Romance touched hearts of a lot of people on earth and also they do saved lives... Many lives. They are a band to look up to without a doubt and in my opinion the greatest band ever.

This band is so damn good it lasted quite short but in those short years they made songs for people who are lost and don't know what to do next.

22 Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix (born November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970) was an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter . Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated ...read more.

He was an incredibly gifted and talented musician during the 60s countercultural movement and brought a very bluesy element to psychedelic and acid rock that very few have successfully recreated. His guitar solos are the most legendary, especially in the ways in which he could play the guitar (even with his tongue or behind his back). He was an artist very ahead of this time and people still listen to him today. So many newcomer rock artists look up to him as the demi-god of rock and roll, I'd say even better than Elvis Presley or the Beatles could do. Definitely deserves the number 2 spot on my list.

Jimi Hendrix, shouldn't be below top 10. His combination of Blues, Jazz and his psychedelic rock touch completely transformed rock and music today. Not only is he considered to be the man who changed rock and music, he is considered to be the one of the greatest guitarists of all time. His technical ability with the guitar transformed the guitar and is the standard which everyone tries reach, but yet no one can apart from him. a lot bands have the Hendrix DNA in there songs, its unfair to place him at this level because half of the bands have been so heavily influenced by him. Not only is he so underrated on this list but what he did for modern day music is still underrated to this day.

I do not have a top 10 favorite artist if I had to pick. So to make it fear I top the most famous artist that is not one of my favorite artists on list besides the artist Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Bob Dylan. Why one of them are not on 10 but he is when those artist are more famous then him because I like him more than Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. I like him more because he is harder and he is more of my typ. I like Bob Dylan just as much as jimi Hendrix. I put him over Bob Dylan when he is more famous then jimi Hendrix and when I like them the same because jimi Hendrix has more of my type of music. If I put jimi Hendrix over Bob Dylan people would may say why do you not like Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson much as other artist or/and have one of them on the list instead of him when you do with Bob Dylan when he other artist has more of your type of music. So Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson should be on the list instead of jimi Hendrix. Or people may say he should be ...more

This list is a perfect example of how dumb this site is. Hendrix should easily be top 10, even top 5. The most important guitarist to ever live and one of the most important artists in general. Half of the artists ranked above himnis absolutely a joke. Nirvana? No. Green Day? AT 10?!? Haha NO. Linkin Park? Radiohead? Give me a break. Metallica, ACDC...smfh. Most of these artists have Jimi to thank for having the opportunity to do what they've done. I've never come across and actually accurate list on this site, except for maybe Best Rappers, but even then it's close. This site is a wack joke.

23 Guns N' Roses Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band from Los Angeles formed in 1985. Sweet child o mine is their most iconic song besides Welcome to the jungle
But their newest songs will never beat the oldies

How in the world are guys like PATD and Imagine Dragons above Guns N Roses? These guys had one of the best lead vocalists of all time, Axl Rose, who had a vocal range of 6 octaves which is one of the highest vocal ranges of all time. They also had Slash who was an awesome guitar player and made the memorable solos of "Sweet Child O Mine" and "November Rain". They are the 30th best selling artist in the USA, have sold more than a 100 million records worldwide and have the best selling debut album of all time. VOTE THEM UP PEOPLE! THEY DESERVE BETTER THAN 22!

I'm shocked why Guns N' Roses is not in top ten. I think it's the best band ever. They were so proffesional anx artistic and really ver very different. They broughg out a different type of rock/metal and even rock n' rock. Its sure the line up with axl, slash, duff, izzy and steven is the best. Their song sweet child o mine has given the most importance but I think that there's no more song like nov rain its really different and obvously made by Guns N' Roses. Thank you for reading this hope you all will agree with it...

Should be top ten. Also why is linkin park and Eminem in top ten. I love linking park and I'm fine with th em being tip twenty. Eminem, I personly hate rap. But he is good so also top twenty. But why imagi me dragons, kendrick lamar, tupac shakur, and Kanye West in the top fifty. Rap sucks. Imagine dragons is very good but should be lower than the likes of the who, Elton john, Billy joel, and black sabbath. Also maroon five is good, should not be in top 50

24 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, singer John "Ozzy" Osbourne, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. ...read more.

Although Black Sabbath didn't originally invent the metal genre, they pioneered its way to popularity. This is one of the all time best hard rock bands, but they had influences from other genres such as stoner metal and rock, metal, psychedelic rock, and blues rock. Definitely a talented band and had some bad ass guitar solos. Great to listen to them stoned. Definitely deserves the number 3 spot on my list.

They didn't invent the music term "heavy metal" (that credit goes to Steppenwolf), but they helped lay the foundations of the genre more than any other band.

Below Green Day? That needs to be switched. These guys are what cemented metal and created a name for the genre. They are the ones who created it and made it a thing. They especially created the doom metal/psychedelic rock subgenres as well. Lets keep voting and get these guys higher on the list!

Black Sabbath is awesome! They're one of the bands that practically inspired many of the bands we have today. They deserve so much more credit. Long live Black Sabbath!

25 Twenty One Pilots Twenty One Pilots is an American musical duo that is originally from Columbus, Ohio, who are best known for their songs "Stressed Out", "Heathens" and "Ride". Tøp is literally a band that has the most introspective lyrics ever. I was so shocked when I saw they weren't on this list.

All of their songs have a really deep meaning behind them, even if it's about one of their mothers. Even then, you can relate to it.

Everyone I met that hadn't ever listened to them fell in love with them immediately, all because of maybe one song.

They may change their genre a lot, but every single type suits them. I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart that they saved me, and I'm so grateful and glad that I'm alive at the same time as them.

If you haven't listened to them yet, I recommend that you do.

My recent favourite artist. Incredible they are. Deep and meaningful lyrics in all their songs, and so much diversity! 21st seems like a good spot, I'd say more like 15th though.

Twenty One Pilots...
#75?
I understand Blurryface was like played everywhere, especially Stressed Out, heathens and Ride to some extent, but they are still an amazing band nonetheless. If you don't believe me, go listen to their Self titled album, Regional At best and No Phun Intended. Arguably one of the best in this generation.

To all twenty one pilots haters, I have five words for you.
Regional. At. Best. And. Trench.
All 28 songs from both albums are absolutely heavenly.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
