The best metal vocals. Not just to me. But heavy metal vocalists are also on top of metal vocalists charts. Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan etc. They have powerful vocals. But not very harsh or growling vocals. Clean powerful vocals.
(by the way, I meant classic/traditional metal by "heavy metal")
Usually operatic voices. Long notes, clean voices.Female singers are best at symphonic metal.

Usually powerful vocals. But not like death metal or black metal. I would say thrash vocals is middle of heavy metal and death metal.
Progressive metal vocals has different kinds of vocals in a same song. Sometimes soft and sometimes powerful. But it has always clean vocals.
What would I say? Black metal vocals is kinda harsh/raspy. Mixed with screaming. Maybe shrieking vocals.

Some folk metal bands have clean vocals, some folk metal bands have growling vocals. Some bands do both. But the vocals are very well-matched with instruments.
