21 5 Seconds of Summer 5 Seconds of Summer 5 Seconds of Summer are an Australian pop-rock band from Sydney that formed in 2011. The group were originally YouTube celebrities, posting videos of themselves covering songs from various artists during 2011 and early 2012. They rose to international fame while touring with One Direction on the Take ...read more.

I was at a summer camp and one girl at the summer camp said she liked rock music. She said her favorite bands were 5 seconds of summer and awolnation, and she liked one direction. If she listened to bands like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd in the future, she'd be ashamed that she said she liked five seconds of summer and one direction. 5 seconds of summer is pop, not punk or rock. They aren't as bad as one direction, but still pretty overrated - Imreallyboredrightnow

Those rotten teenagers tried to steal from Green Day and failed. Also teen girls love them and they are so overrated.

Dear people, as a not teenage girl, I can say they have really good music without being considered biased because "omgomghg their so hot". They don't believe they are punk, IT'S A JOKE WITHIN THE FANDOM. They are inspired by pop-punk/pop-rock bands. The girl at your summer camp is an idiot, 1D are awful, and 5sos is pop rock.

It's sad how people compare this to actually god bands - ExplosivePanther

22 The Sex Pistols

The Sex Pistols were embraced by British youth because the country was in deep depression with no future under a rotten Labour government. Most of the big cities were on rolling blackouts because of striking and no power available after working hours except for hospitals etc. No future for kids with unemployment at an all time low. Oil crisis. Unions striking everywhere.

Sex Pistols just represented how kids felt. They could barely play their instruments and were mostly a carefully managed by Mclaren who made good use of sensationalist bad publicity to keep the momentum going.

It crushed rock for a while until bands like Iron Maiden managed to surface from the quagmire. Though punk did have some influence of rock in raising the tempo. They were crap musicians and definitely overrated musically.

Extremely overrated British band that for some reason represents the rock music of UK, despite their release of only one album, their childish hatred of everything, and lack of general talent.

I might not be the best person to comment on overrated punk musicians, as I'm not a big fan of the genre. That said, I do appreciate a band with skill and talent, and the Sex Pistols lack both. Their vocalist can't sing and their production is average at best. While they did pioneer a movement, that doesn't make their music automatically good. - Mrveteran

I feel like a lot of the people commenting here don't get punk. It's supposed to be messy and not neccissarily the most technical music and punk doesn't need a traditionally good singer, that wouldn't fit. I'm not even a big sex pistols or punk fan but they aren't overrated. The people who like them enjoy their music and the people who don't like it don't have to listen to it. Nothing overrated there.

23 Journey Journey Journey is an American rock band that formed in San Francisco in 1973, composed of former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch.

People act like they know good music just because they like this band. As if they are one of the best rock bands out there. I just want to bang my head against the wall.

Not known for great solos, or jaw-dropping songs, etc. Yet they get so much recognition lately even though prior, they have not been relevant since around the late 80s (and for that case, a good reason for that)

Guys, there is more to classic rock than Don't Stop Believin' and Livin On a Prayer (latter is Bon Jovi, but you get my point).

Don't Stop Believing is a bit overrated/overplayed, as is a couple more of their songs that everyone knows, but that seems to be the major complaint. They've actually got a lot of good stuff from the late 70's and some 80's - there's some really heavy hard rock on Frontiers.

The music comes on and EVERYONE starts to sing, they are not that good. They sound generic, Glee ruined any goodness that they had. Ever since their songs became the #1 flash mob song, the #1 relationship song, the #1 class reunion song, the #1 karaoke song, this band has been completely over rated.

While I will agree that later-period Journey (especially 'Raised on Radio') is overrated, early Journey before Steve Perry was incredible and should be required listening as they were emulating Mahavishnu Orchestra. - synthonaplinth

24 Blink 182 Blink 182 Blink-182 are a Pop Punk band formed in 1992. Original lineup were Mark Hoppus (Bass Guitar, Vocals) ...read more.

I accidently voted this band when I did not want to. Green Day and this band should not be here at all. I respect those who do not like Blink 182 and Tom's vocals, but I personally did not find anything bad about the vocals. It actually took me longer to adjust to Mark's voice because I did not like it at first, I got easily adjusted to Tom's voice, am I the only one who thinks that? - AnimeDrawer

I like this band, but Green Day is much better (Green Day is my 4th favorite band, behind Beatles, Stones, and U2).

Plus, it takes a LONG time to adjust to Tom's voice.

I actually took a long time to adjust to Mark's voice instead. I had no problem with Tom's voice at all when I first heard the band. - AnimeDrawer

How can anybody compare this band to Green Day. This is supposedly a rival band. I listened to all the small things waiting for the good part, but of course it never came. Green Day has some of the greatest punk/rock/alternative albums ever like dookie, insomniac, nimrod, and American idiot. I hate how people think Green Day is a sellout just because they add variety to albums like blvd of broken dreams. Blink 182 is literally 100 times worse than Green Day. - treyanthonyyeah

None of you have listened to Adams song or stay together for the kids, I hate their boy band phase but man the songs listed above made me cry like a biotch

25 Limp Bizkit Limp Bizkit Limp Bizkit is an American nu metal band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 1994. Their lineup consists of Fred Durst, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and Wes Borland.

Are they really that good? I mean, I tried to like their songs, I had like 10 of their tunes on my iPod, but I never got amazed by them, except their name and the cover of behind blue eyes, which is amazing.

How are they overrated? I've never heard one good thing about this band, pretty much everyone thinks they suck.

Why are they even here? Only like 1 out of 100 people know that they exist!

Saying Limp Bizkit sucks is like saying water is good for you. Also I hope that I never have to type that name again.

26 Panic! At The Disco Panic! At The Disco Panic! at the Disco is an American pop rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004 and featuring the current lineup of vocalist Brendon Urie, accompanied on tour by bassist Dallon Weekes, guitarist Kenneth Harris, and drummer Dan Pawlovich.

They're basically just another fall out boy. One of the most overproduced bands ever

I can't believe this. They are nothing like fob. Panic! Is COMPLETELY different! With the genre changing every album I don't see them much as fob. I like Fall Out Boy its just Panic! At The Disco may have some similarities but they definitely not just another Fall Out Boy.

Panic at the disco is one of the worst bands I have ever heard. It's not even music it's more like random lyrics put together by some guy sitting at a desk all day.

They sing awful songs they should be in the top 5 if not 3.

27 Guns & Roses

The category is "overated", not bands that suck. In my opinion, although GnR was a decent hard rock band, they were WAY overrated. They just happened to catch on with the college-age, white, frat-boy, metal-newbie crowd who proudly displayed their new GnR CD on the shelf next to Garth Brooks, Steve Winwood and Cher so their girlfriend would see how "rockin'" they were.

I LOVE Guns N' Roses, but they are most defiantly overrated. They had one number one hit, with a couple other songs that even remotely hit the charts, and all of the sudden everybody in the world is in love with these guys! I love the songs but some of the attention that they are getting should go to a far more deserving band, whomever that may be.

3 full length studio albums of original material! Way to few albums. They are an over worshiped LA hair band. They did nothing new. They have a Bieber like fan base. Half of their live show is covers and solos. They are the definition of OVERRATED!

Rock for people that can't handle the real thing. Also they suck.

I LOVE THEM! I think they are underrated. The haters haven't listened to 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours yet.

I personally love their older stuffs though Warning is their last good album in my opinion but I would like to ask the haters if they listened to their old albums such as Dookie Insomniac, Kerplunk, 39/smooth at least before voting and leaving a hate comment about them. Just saying'

I'm surprised this isn't higher, Green Day gets a lot of hate and lots of people think they're overrated. Green Day had decent albums like Dookie, but then they got too commercial. They kind of sold out. - Imreallyboredrightnow

Not overrated at all.Maybe after 21st Century Breakdown but that doesn't mean you have to b ignorant o their previous works - Jay_07

29 The Eagles The Eagles The Eagles are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1971 by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner.

Seen them live three times and they were better every time. I don't see how you can say they are overrated when an amazing singer like Don Henley can't even make the top 300 in the list of best male singers. Hotel California, their first album, and Desperado are terrific albums full of terrific songs. Their first greatest hits album is the best selling album of the 20th century! I had to add Henley to the greatest songwriters list, when the list included people like the Jonas Brothers, Bieber, and Josh Groban, who doesn't even write songs! Eagles are not overrated, their music will live on for a very long time.

First of it is not "The" Eagles. Its only "Eagles" and they are a great band. They deserve the money and fame. Try listening some songs. I don't mean hotel California. I don't think it is the best.

I've never heard a song by this band that I like. Other bands that I dislike, still have 1 or 2 songs that I like. Plus, in the 1970's, these guys said insulting things about Yes. Despicable.

What the eagles are incredibly underrated. Anyone remember when Glenn Frey died last January? Didn't think so

Who decided to put this on here? These guys founded one of the best music genres of all time. Without black sabbath, there would be no metallica or slipknot.

I agree, Who put this here?!?!
They created heavy rock and metal in a way, I know cream came before sabbath in metal. But without sabbath these guys wont be here...

Black Sabbath is great, and I don't think their overrated. I think deep purple should get more recognition though because them, sabbath and Zeppelin kind of created the foundation for hard rock and heavy metal. It seems as though people pay a lot more attention to Zeppelin and sabbath than deep purple. All three are great bands and deep purple deserves as much or almost as much recognition as sabbath and/or Zeppelin.

Black Sabbath is not the inventor of metal.Deep Purple is the creator of metal. - zxm

31 Aerosmith Aerosmith Aerosmith is an American rock band, sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band".

Aerosmith doesn't get enough credit. They are the Bad Boys from Boston and they rock. So many great albums/hits and not as much recognition. They are more underrated than overrated. They rule! They're a rock legend!

They are awesome. Dream On does not suck ass.

They are a good band but they are a bit overrated. I've heard some of their most famous songs over and over again! I am a fan of Aerosmith and Stephen Tyler but they need to release some new songs or something.

They just have 1 good song (dream on)! - ShahryRKnoT

Have you listened to 'I don't want to miss a thing'? You are a no-nothing - Jay_07

32 My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance was an American rock band from Jersey City, New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013. For much of their career, the band consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Bob Bryar.

These guys work hard and make music, I love them

I personally love this band, and funny enough, it is here at the bottom as if to prove my point. Here's the thing, you listen to any old album by them, and you'd change your mind.

I do like a few My Chemical Romance songs but they're way overhyped

This should be higher. not a bad rock band but its emo and annoying fanbase makes it so overrated

They lost their bassist, and I think they're gonna break up soon anyway.

34 Evanescence Evanescence Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.

They're not horrible but a lot of people only like them because of Amy's vocals not the rest of the band and music

Now don't get me wrong, Amy Lee is an amazing vocalist. She can hit the high notes perfectly, and the power of her voice allows her to do a good nu-metal (which is usually garbage) vocal. However, the problem with the band lays within the lyrics, which are just as generic as anything and angsty as Linkin Park or Good Charlotte. They're really only known for their two worst hits; My Immortal, where the bland lyrics of depression problems stand out, and the forced sympathetic My Immortal. I am not saying they are bad, but seriously, they've had much better and much better groups exist. - Swellow

Generic lyrics and music. Amy Lee is a good singer but compared to some other symphonic rock singers... This band is basically worshipped because Amy Lee is apparently such a "great" singer

I have nothing against them as a whole. They are boring and generic and average teenage girl music. Very overrated on this site. - MetalObsessed

These boys don't look like they like girls!

36 KISS KISS Kiss is an American hard rock band formed in New York City in January 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and the band's original manager, Lew Linet.

All makeup and no musicianship. Go buy Ace Frehley's new album instead.

Had a certain amount of creativity, but wasted it on the stage show theatrics and wound up with the most sterile class of rock imaginable.
The truly scary part is that they have a fanbase who could care less sbout music as an art form. they could just play the Alphabet song for two hours straight, and no one would bat an eye as long as they remembered the makeup and the fireworks.

KISS's marketing and merchandise was just a side affect of their fame in the late 70's. Under all that makeup the members of KISS write catchy rocking songs. And KISS's live shows are hotter than He#*!

I'll admit, I wanna rock and roll all night and I was made for loving you are classics, and I like them, but other than that they're not that good

Terrible. On every level. I think they made new levels of terrible.

Although BVB is overrated by many emo girls who simply like the look, black veil brides songs all in all aren't that bad. The riffs are actually pretty good but the bassist and drummer are a little artificial sounding.

I hate when people claim they like 'rock music', but say their favorite bands are BVB and/or SWS.

38 The Naked Brothers Band The Naked Brothers Band

I have never heard of it, but I voted for it just for the name. A band that's actually called "The Naked Brother Band" can't be good. If it's succesful, it's totally overrated.

Wow, I completely forgot about these guys.

When was the last time I heard this band being mentioned, 2007? They were overrated back then, though.

I don't know who they are, but if they were popular in 2007 I should. They look like they're ten

39 Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons is an American pop band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Imagine Dragons' lineup consists of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman.

What? I love imagine dragons! OK, I get it, their music isn't for everybody, and they do have an extremely diverse pool of music, but they still aren't overrated. In fact, I don't think they are underrated either. Just think about the lyrics. (wow they actually tell a story! ) Also, everyone here is just complaining about Radioactive. Sure, the song was super overplayed on the radio and started to grow on me, they still have really good songs! Monster, Thief, Bleeding Out, Roots, Dream, are all really good songs (just to name a few) So please listen to all their songs and just don't base this upon one song. Also I get if you don't like them, they do get a little while to get used to.

Radioactive wasn't too annoying until kids in my class started singing it over and over to the point where I started to hate the band. Hearing some of their other songs, I can see why people hate them so much. Because they have very generic pop rock music.

Unfortunately, this is probably the Rock Band that we will be looking forward to in the future until there are bands that are as good as The White Stripes, or The Black Keys. - MusicalPony

I tried listening to this band and getting used to them but I just can't! They are the only band I can't listen to! Radioactive is a song that I've heard so much that I almost gave up on all music completely

Radioactive isn't their only song, you know. Listen to Bleeding Out, Friction, All Eyes, Emma, Round And Round, Selene, Monster, and 30 Lives, then come back and tell me that they are that unbearable. - WonkeyDude98

If you're white, boring to the point that you and your friends never talk about life in its essence, and your main goal in life is making money: this is your band!

40 Def Leppard Def Leppard Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in 1977 in Sheffield as part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement.

They're extremely underrated if anything. They helped spearhead the glam side of the new wave of British hard rock/heavy metal and were extremely influential to many artists like Guns 'N Roses and Whitesnake to name a few. Repetitive? Yes. But they are nonetheless an extremely underrated band. Pour Some Sugar On Me made them popular, but if you explore their catalog, they've got some much better songs like Photograph and Bringin' On The Heartbreak (a song that helped change hard rock ballads mind you.) - DavidBondra
