Top 10 Best Things About the Movie Gladiator
This list is one of my most bold. I believe Gladiator is the best movie of all-time. Gladiator was released in 2000 and launched a revival in historical movies. It is regarded as one of the best movies ever by many, but I believe it is more than that. I believe it is the best movie of all-time. This list will give ten reasons why.
This is something every movie has to have to contend for me. Gladiator has a great storyline. Not just that though, they also can boast that they pulled off the revenge storyline. The story is simple in motive and gets more and more complex, but then progressively gets less complex. That makes a good story in my opinion.

Gladiator is known for some specific moments. The Are You Not Entertained Scene, the whole beginning sequence, the scene where Commodus kills Marcus Aurelius, the whole Commodus going insane scenes, and of course Maximus's reveal to Commodus.
Gladiator also sparked a new era in historical movies. For example 300, Troy, Alexander, Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Good, and a lot lot more.

Gladiator is known for its great music. In my opinion it has one of the best musical scores of all-time. Simply beautiful.

Both Russell Crowe and the young Joaquin Phoenix produce exceptional acting. There is absolutely nothing you can fault about their performances.
Legendary acting core. Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, and Derek Jacobi just to name a few. Not going say it's the best acting core, but it is up there.
The movie has perfect emotional balance. Doesn't become bloated in trying to make you cry, but it also isn't stale enough to not make you feel a certain way.

By this I mean the audience generally feels sorry for Commodus and we can kinda understand his frustration. Now he also goes a bit overboard, but I hope you get what I mean.
You can tell they cared about this movie and they wanted to get it right. Not in terms of historical accuracy, because they took a lot of creative liberties, but in terms of just making a good movie. They were not in it for the money. You can clearly see that.

Maximus is one of the most savage characters in movie history. I loved Maximus and Russell Crowe was the perfect actor for this role.

It does have great fight scenes. The beginning and all of the gladiatorial fights.
One of the greatest rivalries in movie history.
