Top 10 Examples of Early Shredding in Music
Shredding is a type of fast guitar playing with various techniques like sweep picking, tapping, alternate picking, arpeggio, whammy bar abuse, hammer ons, pull off etc. It is more common in rock, metal and jazz. Especially in genres like neoclassical metal, power metal, progressive metal. But where did it start? There are lots of debates who started shredding. Its an endless debate. But I included those songs that came before 80s. Because by the time of 80s there were lots of shredders with pure shredding. So, these songs are from 60s, 70s or even earlier. Its oldest tapping guitar ever found.
If you ask most people from where shredding started a lot of people will choose heartbreaker. Its not just about fast hammer ons and pull offs. Its one of the fastest solos of 60s. I know its not a pure shredding but come on it was released in 60s.

It was very fast for its time. Very hard to find something like this in 70s.
Its on 2. Cause it's a pure shredding piece. And it came in 70s. Nobody could disagree with it. It has whammy bar use, tremolo picking, two hand tapping, fast hammer on and pull offs. Just like a shredding solo needs..

I know you may laugh about this. But come on it came in 50s. Plus if it was played with a modern guitar then it would sound like a shredding solo. I heard he was one who invent shredding.
