Formed the band with Jon Lord. "68 to "75 was the golden year for them. And then they again got better after '84. All these times Ritchie Blackmore was with Deep Purple. Though there are lots of songs that I like which Ritchie Blackmore didn't play. But still he was the best member of Deep Purple.

2 Ian Gillan (Vocals) Ian Gillan is an English singer and songwriter. He originally found success as the lead singer and lyricist for Deep Purple, and the original singer on the rock opera concept album Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber, where Gillan had the leading role (Jesus Christ).

The definite voice of Deep Purple in my opinion. The guy had impressive range in his prime and his style has been a big influence in metal singing ever since.

The vocalist, the one that keeps the band together
Ritchie is just overrated as hell

Excellent singer, one half of true DP's vocals. Rod Evans started it all though.

3 Jon Lord (Keyboards) Jonathan Douglas "Jon" Lord was an English composer, pianist, and Hammond organ player known for his pioneering work in fusing rock with classical or baroque forms, especially with Deep Purple, as well as Whitesnake, Paice Ashton Lord, The Artwoods, and The Flower Pot Men.

He formed the band with Ritchie Blackmore. More likely he was the original founder of the band. Ritchie Blackmore did the music experiment part and he did the member management part.

Eternal. Don does a fine job, but Jon was unique.

There was no Purple without the Lord

4 Ian Paice (Drums) Ian Anderson Paice (born 29 June 1948) is an English musician, best known as the drummer of the English rock band Deep Purple. He has been the band's only constant member since its foundation.

As of 2017, he's the only original member left on Deep Purple.

5 Roger Glover (Bass) Roger David Glover is a British bassist, songwriter, and record producer. Glover is best known as the bassist for hard rock bands Deep Purple and Rainbow.

Second longest running member of Deep Purple

Great bass player, but so was Nick.

6 Don Airey (Keyboards) Donald Smith "Don" Airey has been the keyboardist in the rock band Deep Purple since 2002, after the retirement of Jon Lord.

Great keyboard player, but Jon Lord was a charismatic genius that can never be fully replaced.

Simply excellent!

7 David Coverdale (Vocals) David Coverdale is an English rock singer most famous for his work with Whitesnake, the commercially successful hard rock band he founded in 1978. Before Whitesnake, Coverdale was the lead singer of Deep Purple from late 1973 to 15 March 1976, when he resigned from the band and established his solo ...read more.

Sang soldier of fortune. Remained my favorite song of their's.

8 Steve Morse (Guitars) Steven J. "Steve" Morse is an American guitarist and composer, best known as the founder of the Dixie Dregs; and since 1994, the guitar player of Deep Purple.

Great player from a purely technical perspective, but somehow sterile sounding, totally lacking the charisma of Ritchie's playing.

9 Joe Lynn Turner (Vocals) Joe Lynn Turner is an American singer, known for his works with hard rock/metal bands Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen and Deep Purple.
10 Rod Evans (Vocals) Roderic Evans is an English former singer. In the late 1960s he began his professional career in The Maze, formerly MI5, after which he was a member of the original Deep Purple line-up.

Underrated as a member. A lot don't even know he was there. But there were many good songs that he sang.

The Contenders

Yes, after Ritchie left he filled in for a while.

He was there too?

14 Simon McBride (Guitars)
15 Chris Curtis (Drums)
16 Nick Simper (Bass)

Great, underrated bass player. I love the first three DP albums.
