Top 10 Music Acts Where Two or More Bandmates Hated Each Other

The Top Ten
1 The Kinks The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, in 1964 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most important and influential rock bands of the 1960s.

Ray had to bear administrative load for the Kinks since they had terrible management and horrible contracts. Dave was just your typical sex, drugs, and party rocker so Ray probably felt resentful of "carrying" Dave. I read that Dave is the nicer person, and Ray has the difficult personality, but Ray is the genius without whom no lasting fame for Dave, solid guitarist or not. And Mick Avory in siding with Ray knew where his bread was buttered.

Brothers Ray and Dave Davies hate each other - it started in the childhood and perhaps will never end.
Dave said, "I think Ray has only been happy for three years of his life … the three before I was born."
The two tried to reunite for Dave's 50th birthday but it was unsuccessful because according to Dave, Ray made it all about him:
"Just as I was about to cut the cake, Ray jumped on the table and made a speech about how wonderful he was, and then stamped on the cake."

2 Oasis Oasis were an English britpop band formed in Manchester in 1991. Developed from an earlier group, the Rain, the band originally consisted of Liam Gallagher (vocals and tambourine), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll. Noel Gallagher (Liam's Brother) served as the primary... read more

Bandmates who hate each other are the "sweetest' bros in music - Liam and Noel Gallagher.

Noel on Liam: "He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup."

Liam on Noel: "I f**kin' hate that t**t there. … I hope one day … I can smash [the] f**k out of him, with a f**kin” Rickenbacker, right on his nose, and then he does the same to me."

The two brothers from Oasis, Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher hate each other for who knows why

3 The Beatles The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later... read more

What about these guys? They loved each other, they hated each other...

4 Simon & Garfunkel Simon & Garfunkel were an American folk rock duo consisting of singer-songwriter Paul Simon and singer Art Garfunkel.

Listeners love their harmonized vocals but Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel can barely stand one another.
Most of the hostility seems to come from Simon's camp.

Garfunkel consistently expresses affection for Simon in public.

5 Guns n Roses Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band from Los Angeles formed in 1985. The classic lineup, as signed to Geffen Records in 1986, consisted of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Steven Adler. Apart from hard rock they are also... read more

Bandmates who hate each other are Axl Rose and Slash.
According to Guns N' Roses's road manager in the early 90s, the reason was... Michael Jackson because:
1) Axl was allegedly molested by his father as a child
2) in the early 90s Michael Jackson was rumored to have molested children and Axl believed it was true
3) Slash agreed to play guitar on Jackson's new song "Black or White", and that "devastated" Axl Rose
4) then Slash escalated the heat by admitting he was getting paid with a flat-screen T.V., and this was the beginning of the end. By 1993 the original Guns N' Roses was ruined.
Axl Rose and Slash reunited in 2016 for a tour.

6 Creedence Clearwater Revival Creedence Clearwater Revival, often shortened to Creedence and abbreviated as CCR, was an American rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

That would be founder John Fogerty, who hates his brother Tom, as well as the other bandmates.

Founder and leader Tom Fogerty hates all the other members, and the feeling is mutual.

7 Cream Cream were a 1960s British rock supergroup power trio consisting of bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce, drummer Ginger Baker, and guitarist/vocalist Eric Clapton.

Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were lifelong enemies.

Ozzy was practically in conflict with all original Black Sabbath members and with some newer members, too.
1) Ozzy vs Tony Iommi - long story but even after so many years, in 2009, Ozzy took legal actions against Tony Iommi (Ozzy claims were ugly)
2) Ozzy vs Geezer - in the late 70s Ozzy even attacked Geezer with a knife which was one of the reasons Ozzy was kicked out of the band
3) Ozzy vs Bill Ward - there was a conflict between them even in 2015

Ozzy in conflict with them all?

9 Aerosmith Aerosmith is an American rock band, sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band".

Bandmates who hate each other are Steven Tyler and Joe Perry.
According to Perry, the main problem is that he and the band are in it for the music, while Tyler's in it for fame and women.
This tension was obviously too much to take, judging by how Perry outright quit the band in the early '80s.
In addition, Perry cringes at Tyler's attempts to go into business for himself.

10 Megadeth Megadeth is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. Megadeth was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine was fired from Metallica. They have released 15 studio albums to date, and have gone through many lineup changes, with Dave... read more

Mega Dave is one of the most difficult musicians to work with (for several reasons) so at a point (almost) everyone in this band hated him. And people have been leaving the band. One of the most dysfunctional bands ever.
Even his best buddy in the band, David Ellefson, got alienated for some period of time and one of the band's albums was going to be a solo album by Dave Mustaine.
Insiders say that Dave Mustaine and drummer Nick Menza often had arguments and the song Angry Again was partly inspired by Nick because Mustaine hated Nick a lot. I guess Nick hated him back. R.I.P. Nick.

The Contenders
11 KISS Kiss, often styled as KISS, was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973. The original members were Paul Stanley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals, bass guitar), Ace Frehley (lead guitar, vocals), and Peter Criss (drums, vocals)... read more

Team 1: Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley
vs
team 2: Ace Frehley and Peter Criss

Stanley claimed in his 2014 autobiography that Frehley and Criss are anti-Semitic (Stanley and Simmons are Jewish), that Frehley collected Nazi memorabilia, and that Criss was racist against Asians.
But there are also tensions within "team 1" because Stanley called Simmons an egomaniac who wasn't actually a marketing genius, but that pales in comparison to "you are basically Nazis."

12 Smashing Pumpkins The Smashing Pumpkins is an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1988. Formed by frontman Billy Corgan and James Iha, the band included D'arcy Wretzky and Jimmy Chamberlin in its original incarnation.

Several members have been fighting with each other almost since the beginning

13 Van Halen Van Halen was an American hard rock band formed in Pasadena, California, in 1972. From 1974 until 1985, the band consisted of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, vocalist David Lee Roth, drummer Alex Van Halen, and bassist Michael Anthony.

Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth hate each other but this didn't cause as much drama as in the other bands on this list.
In a recent interview Eddie claimed that Roth doesn't want to be friends but that seems to suit Eddie just fine.
Eddie also told Billboard, "Roth's perception of himself is different than who he is in reality. We're not in our 20s anymore. We're in our 60s. Act like you're 60."

14 Blink-182 Blink-182 is a pop-punk band formed in 1992. The original lineup consisted of Mark Hoppus on bass guitar and vocals, Tom DeLonge on guitar and vocals, and Scott Raynor on drums. I don't think Hall would file a restraining order against Oates if the two didn't hate each other.

21 Journey Journey is an American arena rock band that formed in San Francisco in 1973, composed of former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch.

Guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain have been feuding over the band's artistic direction.

22 XTC

25 The Smiths The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. The band consisted of vocalist Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce.

I'm surprised that they were never mentioned. Johnny Marr and Morrissey have basically become sworn enemies against each other.
