Top 10 Best Songs of 2013 According to Laut.de

Wait, wait, no, it can't be... Laut.de and Rolling Stone have the same number one song on their lists? What is this sorcery?

I don't think any two music magazines or websites could be further from each other's points of view (unless they are genre-specific). Okay, I can see why: the old-school funk of the song, as well as the participation of Nile Rodgers, make it compatible with Laut.de's taste. Meanwhile, the song's chart success, the involvement of Pharrell Williams, and the general consensus of the public that this is indeed a great song work for Rolling Stone.

I'm not even that surprised to find this in Laut.de's top ten list. I am more stunned that they chose a worldwide hit single as their number one item instead of some acoustic song by an Austrian indie rock band about peeling potatoes or something like that. In fact, except for numbers 4 and 7, these are all at least somewhat popular artists. It's still not my personal taste for the most part, but for once, I have the feeling the list also included songs that were simply fun for the Laut.de staff.

Also, in my comment on their 2014 list, I complimented them for starting to praise Haftbefehl, whom they had panned very harshly in earlier reviews. They obviously finally "got" what he is all about, although I couldn't tell what happened between the 1-star review of 2010 and the 5-star review of 2014. Now I can: their number 8 item on this list happened.

Although it apparently only hit number 30 on the charts, this song was everywhere back then and kind of went viral - you could say it was his breakthrough. The album it is on received a somewhat positive 3-star review from Laut.de, and with that much attention on the rapper, they started to dig deeper into his vision and realized they had underestimated him. Of course, they didn't explicitly admit it - they just suddenly switched from bashing to acclaim. Since I acknowledge their change of mind, I will just ignore that the song was actually released in 2012.

Laut.de's number 6 and number 10 items were also shortlisted for my own top ten list of 2013.
