Best Songs on the Album Teenage Head by the Flamin' Groovies
A while back, I made a list ranking the albums of one of my favorite bands, the Flamin' Groovies, from best to worst. Now, I want to take a look at one of my favorite albums of theirs, Teenage Head. The album is similar in many ways to golden-era Rolling Stones (i.e. Let it Bleed and Sticky Fingers); if you like that kind of stuff (and even if you don't), I suggest that you check this album out. This song is an uptempo rockabilly shuffle, and the guitar lick reminds me of the one used in Elvis' version of mystery train. Having said that, I think it's great in it's own right; I also love the slap-back echo on this song; it helps give it that authentic feel.
The album opener; it's an uptempo bluesy rocker with a lot of slide guitar. I love it.
The title track for this album; I love the rhythmic feel of it.
The fastest pace song on the album. It's a straightforward rock-and-roller originally written by Randy Newman.
The rhythmic feel and flow of the song reminds me a lot of Jigsaw Puzzle by The Rolling Stones (even though the chords and melody are completely different); that's the best way I can explain this song.
This song is an acoustic blues shuffle based on 32-20 Blues by Robert Johnson. Roy Loney, the group's lead singer, wrote new lyrics for the song.
The album closer. It starts off as a folk-rock type ballad, but at the end gets more intense.
Another acoustic song, very bluesy in nature. Probably the most downtempo song on the album.
It's a mid-tempo rhythm and blues shuffle. Pretty straightforward.
One of the bonus tracks for the album's CD reissue; it's a Chuck Berry cover, and one of my favorite Chuck Berry covers out there.
