Best Songs on Sepultura's Dante XXI
Dante XXI is the 10th studio album by Sepultura. It was recorded in 2005 and released on March 14, 2006, through SPV Records. The album is a concept album based on the three sections of Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy:
Inferno (Hell)
Purgatorio (Purgatory)
Paradiso (Paradise)
This is the last album to feature Igor Cavalera on drums.
The album was originally titled Dante 05. However, the title was changed once the band realized it would not be released in 2005.
Covers of Judas Priest's "Screaming for Vengeance" and Sick of It All's "Scratch the Surface" were recorded as B-sides. "Screaming for Vengeance" was included as a Japanese bonus track, while "Scratch the Surface" appears on the Sick of It All tribute album Our Impact Will Be Felt.
One of the initial ideas for the album was to create a symphonic metal project similar to Metallica's S&M. Another idea was to base the album on the novel A Clockwork Orange, which was instead used as the concept for their next studio album, A-Lex.
This album is considered by fans and critics to be the best Sepultura album not featuring Max Cavalera. It is also widely regarded as the best album with Derrick Green on vocals, and I agree with that.
