Top 10 Songs on Whitesnake's Lovehunter
Lovehunter was Whitesnake's 2nd studio album, released in 1979.It was produced, engineered and mixed by the famous Martin Birch.
Its cover art was controversial - Jon Lord of Deep Purple had used a similar idea 3 years earlier for his Sarabande album (at the time of Lovehunter, Jon Lord was in Whitesnake).
Personnel:
David Coverdale – lead (all but Outlaw) and backing vocals
Micky Moody – guitars, slide guitar, backing vocals
Bernie Marsden – guitars, backing and lead (Outlaw) vocals
Jon Lord – keyboards
Neil Murray – bass guitar
Dave Dowle – drums
Whitesnake are a classic hard rock band with significant blues influences and some songs are blues rock. Their sound is pretty loud and heavy (some of their songs have metal elements).
Whitesnake were formed in 1978 by the former Deep Purple lead singer David Coverdale. Whitesnake are still active - they cut new material and tour.
The Top Ten
1 Love Hunter
2 Mean Business
This is one of their fastest songs, and it's also heavier. In 1979, its tempo was close to that of metal songs from the same year.
3 Outlaw
Pretty good lead vocals by their guitarist, Bernie Marsden.
I also noticed similarities in the lyrics of this song (1979) and Guns N' Roses' "Paradise City." Not saying it's a ripoff. I was just surprised when I noticed it. The lyrics have the same rhyming of "city" and "pretty":
"I was looking for the bright lights of the big city,
A red hot town where the girls are pretty."
Guns N' Roses' lyrics to "Paradise City," 1987:
"Take me down
To the paradise city
Where the grass is green
And the girls are pretty."
4 Walking In the Shadow of the Blues
5 You 'N' Me
6 Rock 'N' Roll Women
7 Long Way from Home
8 Help Me Thro' the Day
9 Medicine Man
10 We Wish You Well
